Storm the Damsel in Distress!
The problem with Storm's role in Doomwar is that being married to T'challa none of that "Poker Face" ideology rubbed off to where she played along with the whole scenario to assist him with the bigger reveal!
If that were Monica Lynn then oh well, but to have Storm play that type of girl just sucked all the air out of the room!
The REAL T'challa would have had fake vibranium stolen or some type of Doom neutralizer device that rendered him harmless making his threats futile but instead you got a whole lot of cheap soap opera tension that failed to move emotions!
This could have been Black Panther's defining moment instead we got a pyrrhic victory speech that made him, Shuri and Ororo look like world class beyotches!
You are supposed to boost the super hero's status not build up a super villain that did not need to be built up anymore than he already is!
There is something about Black Panther that makes certain writers freeze up and get squeamish just at the moment of truth!
Clearly Black Panther has to be the most poorly researched character at Marvel because so many have come and gone and just don't get him right!
The problem being Doom really couldn't be destroyed in that story. Again, he was being used in like 3-5 other stories at the same time and was needed elsewhere. And even if he wasn't obviously marvel wasn't going to kill off Doom. Just like they weren't going to kill off Namor. He's are good viable character... of course they were going to continue to be used.
Again, it's the downside of using other characters in contexts like this. The BP story can't do whatever the heck it wants. It needs to share the toys in the sandbox with everyone else. The alternative would have been to use a lesser character or one of BP's own rogues that no one else is using anyways, like Kill Monger or White Wolf. No one cares. Course, that's also the downside... no one cares. Using a character like Doom makes the story feel bigger and more epic. The very reason the character can't be killed in the reason a lot of writers want to use him in the story... as far as villains go, Doom is the man.

Marvel's premere arch villain isn't gonna die in the service of story about a character that is less popular than he is.
Even if he did die, it would have been retcon'd before the ink had even dried on it.
Ant Man got a decisive victory over Doom.
And that isn't referenced at all. If anything it's now the position that Ant Man's indebted to Doom for saving his kid.
It won't ever be mentioned again either.
And if the current New Avengers storyline involves Doom getting the better of Thanos in any major way, watch for Starlin to retcon THAT first chance he gets.
I understand the reasoning for it. Could have at least let T'challa beat him senseless and be forced for someone to pull him off of him or something.
The speech at the end was cringeworthy.
I hear people saying this alot. How did we get to a point where these villains didn't matter anymore? Was it the Thunderbolts series taking them out of rotation or something? Did this act in concert with their long term inactiveness in terms of villainy "soften" them so to speak?
The Wrecking Crew are a perfect example of villains who started out as tough enough to give Thor trouble then later turned into jokes that can't even beat up Captain America, let alone Spider Man.
When you get beaten up badly every time you show up, folks tend not to take you seriously as a threat.
Every Fantastic Four rogue that ISN'T Doom or Galactus has had this happen to them.

Has T'Challa ever had a bad showing in a video game? He has yet to be the lead, but I can't think of a game where he was playable and didn't bring it.
In regards to Doomwar, I do agree that the art and pacing was great. I was certainly never bored. But the ending, along with some stuff others have mentioned (Bast and Doom, Ororo being relegated to a damsel in distress) really sucked my enjoyment out of it.

He is OP, besides videogames love Ninja Assassin types so not a shocker.
It wasn't just anti-climatic, it was just simply dumb
And it was more than just the ending... Doom getting past the panther god, the other heroes offering no assistance to T'challa and almost practically blaming him, and then the ending was just the icing on the shittastic cake.
There was a good story hidden in there... it just wasn't the story presented to us. If you are going to use a story where a warrior nation is attacked, the most precious resource is taken from them... then you have to have the villain destroyed. Not given a stern talking to.
It might have been a good story. But the problem with Doomwar was the level of damage that Doom inflicted on Wakanda and T'Challa and he waked away relatively unscathed. Forget that...he was unscathed. S'yan killed, Ramona and Storm assaulted, Dora Milaje and many other Wakandans killed, a civil war and Bast punked.
Doom suffered no consequences other than an uninspired threat. The villains working with him suffered little to no casualties at all. Even if T'Challa didn't kill Doom, he could have done a lot more against him than what he did.

By Maberry's own admission, Doom was the primary focus and star of Doomwar so T'Challa and Co's poor showing within it's pages was a forgone conclusion.
