was tchalla even in the issue? it was weird there was virtually no dialogue not sure how i felt about that.
I actually sort of like the no dialogue action issues in moderation. It's a neat effect where you're telling the story purely through actions, facial expressions, and body language.
For a writer not coming from comic background, where he's used to telling a story through words, I imagine this was an interesting challenge but I can honestly say I think he handled action in this issue better than he has up to this point. As actions books go (something this book has been short on in a lot of ways) this was actually pretty solid.

Hey, I get to give two reviews today!
yea this issue seemed like coates phoned it in from somewhere. like there seemed to be little effort put into it. i hope the next few issues arent like this one because this one was pretty bad.
I disagree with this issue being phoned in. To me, this might be Coates's most ambitious issue yet when it comes to use of the comics medium. It's an issue that pushes entirely away from his strengths and has virtually no dialogue whatsoever. It's very action-focused. Fortunately, I think he pulls it off pretty well with lots of credit to the art team to bring this to fruition. Obviously, if you want a T'Challa-focused issue, it's probably worth skipping. But, unless you think they just went Marvel Method, this script was likely as involved as any other.

I screwed up and didn't realize this was a wraparound cover until it was too late so imagine the two halves flipped.
This story continues the proud McGregor tradition of people changing their names from normal names to patently absurd ones. In this case, the mercenary he is fighting is named Elmer Gore. However, I do want to point out that people made fun of Elmer when he grew up by asking if he caught that Wascally Wabbit. Apparently, he would break their teeth, which really did make it hard for them to pronounce their Rs.
That background out of the way, we turn to Slade still pinned to the tree. He manages to pull the knife out and sneak away while the mercenaries are beating T'Challa up with clubs while he's pinned to the barbed wire. Much of the issue is focused on T'Challa and his ability to perservere through the pain. Eventually he is able to snap the barbed wire and leap to safety. Seconds later, he collapses and falls to the ground.
This is another issue that went by too quickly. The format, so far, hurts the story. That being said, the ability of T'Challa to pull through unimaginable pain is impressive. I like that the villain is set up. What we find out most about him is his cruelty and visciousness, but also that he's intelligent and good at his job. We also learn there's someone more powerful than him calling the shots. Each little bit helps move the story along.
Costume Tear Count: I can confirm the one from last issue tore all across his chest and arm.

This is why we do it.

So I found out last week that a cousin of mine has no idea who or what Black Panther is. This is mind-blowing in every conceivable way. I mean she has four kids and you can't go an hour without seeing a commercial for the movie. It's just so weird since she knew what Proud Mary was. Nevertheless I remain positive that the box office will be huge.

Not that the rating was ever in doubt, but I'm always interested in finding out why things are rated what they are: Black Panther is officially rated PG-13 for prolonged sequences of action violence, and a brief rude gesture

I thought making this issue a silent one was pretty cool. The art team gets to tell the story and I found it to be well illustrated. Problem though? It should have been Black Panther doing the action.

Yes. Noble is absolutely amazing.
