Only to be used as cannon fodder and be sent back to the grave a year or two later?
BTW, I don't think its necessary for anyone to die in Civil War. If someone should die, rather it be in Infinity War 1 or 2, imho.

I wish people did have a hard on for death either. "beaten into a coma" works just as well without teh future complications
I've actually come to like T'Challa a lot. Particularly under Secret Wars. Plus the Marvel Universe needs balance. If there's any character that can keep Marvels orgasm for Doom in check it's T'Challa.
Good to hear, hopefully you're checking out Ultimates and planning for his new solo in April.

I've never understood why everyone is so set on seeing a superhero die anyway. Were peeps begging for Indiana Jones or James Bond to die in their films?

Indeed. I rather have them live and see them in action on later films.
-
These movies don't actually need anybody to die in them.
Unless you are Joss Whedon. Then you PERSONALLY need a death in every movie for dramatic impact.
But that is really just him.
Usually the only reason a major member of an ensemble movie cast (and that is kind of what the Marvel movies are now) gets killed off is because the actor wants out or wanted more money or something.

yipyipyipyipyip
and sense Evans already said he is filming IW....
Should be interesting how Disney spins Cap getting... capp'd into a positive happy ending Marvel is known for.
*shrug*. I hope it doesn't happen. I'd rather just see Cap say, "fine." Put the shield down, and walk off and say hes done and go enjoy the beach or something. I don't really think he needs to eat a bullet.
plus dead cap = no cap/t'challa relationship.

Still can't get over this. special effects definitely makes it look better

This film is looking to be over 2 hour+ long but most of the footage we've gotten so far seems to be from the 1st act with maybe a little of the 2nd(the stand off).

Did TNC give T'challa a last name?
I hope not

Indeed. There's a comma after T'Challa. Might be "T'Challa, King of Wakanda" in Wakandan, for all we know.

I think it means Panther Chief in Hausa. This is intelligent as Coates demonstrates that Black Panther is an English translation or even a mistranslated interpretation of his Wakandan title.
-
Damisa -Saarki : Panther Chief
Hausa Language. Really nice Ta-nehisi
-
After seeing the BVS super bowl ad, I was thinking the same could be done for the marketing of the Black Panther movie without the integrating and product placement.
Probably titled " Welcome to Wakanda" describing places of interesti. The Wakandan Metropolis (Central Wakanda), vibranium Mound, the Panther's Place( Which has the statues of previous panthers called Hall of Kings), Wakandan Museum, Techno Jungle, Crystal Forest etc. That will be awesome
I need to get employed in the Marvel marketing team asap lol

And well played, Coates...well played.

Sounds like a tourist promo vid, lol. But it could def work.
-
That has me thinking.
Instead of creating a brand new language from scratch for the film, perhaps the producers will choose an existing language as a native tongue for Wakandans, based on Wakanda's location. They can even make up a historical reason behind it.
I think that would be a much easier path to go, in moments (if it happens) that Wakandans speak to themselves when not using English.

In regards to the the campaign I stated, yes its more like a tourist promo vid lol. it will be a good way to get people to know more about Wakanda since its the first time it has ever been introduced to the big screen
Has for the pre existing language as a native tongue, it could work but I feel it may take out of the originality of Wakanda . You can say that the Wakandans had their own language but during a certain era where Usman Dan Fodio (Hausa ruler in Nigeria) was defeated by the British, they were able to shelter refugees from Nigeria during the time of war and eventually learned their Hausa language. Some Nigeria history there
According to the marvel atlas, Yoruba is also another language in Wakanda so perphaps the Panther tribe speaks the Wakandan language, the white gorilla tribe speaks the Hausa language and the Lion tribe would speak the Yoruba language. They could do anything but I would like them to still bring up an all new language from scratch

That depends. With a real world language/diallect, you add a sense of realism, but with a newly created one, if done right, you can do much more. Klingon and Elvish are now considered "real" languages if I'm not mistaken. If it's done with care and they actually manage to create a "living and breathing" language and then keep pushing it, who knows what'll happen? Maybe it'll get big enough as Klingon... Okay, that probably won't happen, that's lightning in a bottle, but still, it'd be a really great addittion to the BP brand, which might even generate extra, positive, publicity.

Well... the BvS ad didn't go over so well statistically in regards to buzz... meanwhile CW was #1 in buzz...
so I don't think Marvel is gonna call you anytime soon :D

It doesn't have to be statistically successful. Besides Gotham and Metropolis aren't new in the mainstream media and also we have also seen many ads for BVS already but only seen one trailer for Civil War which created more anticipation for the super bowl ad. The twitter campaign also helped Civil War as well
by the way, it doesn't have to be a super bowl ad, it just has to be an ad of itself

T'challa showed back up in the New Hulk comic today btw
[spoil]
it continued the previous stuff. Hulk/Banner saved a ton of people but was about ot detonate because he coudln't calm down. T'challa told Stark he had to initiate the "fail safe" before he exploded. Cho shows up and starts trying to find solutions, most of which they already tried. T'challa dropped a nice "boy" when talking to him lol.
Science lady ends up tranquilizing Cho, the fail safe was teleporting Bruce to the negative zone.
It appears T'challa and Stark may have something to do with Cho becoming the Hulk [/spoil]

It's better if they speak English. Remember Malekith and the subtitle crap??? I know the writing didn't help the character but the language made him forgettable.
It's better if they speak English. Remember Malekith and the subtitle crap??? I know the writing didn't help the character but the language made him forgettable.
I actually agree. The Hausa needs to be used very, very sparingly. Mostly just between T'challa and the Doras. Even in Wakanda, everyone should just speak English.
No, it doesn't make sense really. It isn't "historically accurate." But its comic book and its movie. i want to listen, not read. It needs to be used in only brief instances, like Elvish in LotR
And, subtitles really, really bother some people.
And honestly, to be crass, the language could be any of the various African languages/dialects and its not really going to affect much for 99.99999999% of the audience.

Yes. It's very Blue Marvel heavy. BP has like two lines of dialogue.
Yes. It's very Blue Marvel heavy. BP has like two lines of dialogue.
Which is to be expected considering last issue's ending. But to say BP hasn't been doing anything in the book so far is just incorrect (referring to the the poster that said he wasn't doing anything).

Ultimates Spoilers for T'challa....
[spoil] He drove the ship off panel.
That's it.
Then again, this was a pure BM issues, so he wasn't the only one [/spoil]
Hell, he did more in the Hulk book lol
-
didn't a new issue come out today?
It did? Huh, I didn't even see a preview of it. I get my subs once a month, so I generally try to avoid spoilers and such. Still, the statement was vague, and I though it was yet another "trololololo, BP sux" post, like the ones who go in Avengers threads to bash them. In either case, sorry SKJoker.

There hasn't been anything for T'Challla to punch as of yet. He's primarily using his scientific, strategic, and political acumen to assist the team.
Plus we have to keep in mind that T'Challa is going to have his own series. I'm assuming Ewing doesn't want to step on Coates toes in any way.

Obviously the characters will be speaking English pretty much 99% of the time, it's a given. A few lines here and there, like the example of T'Challa speaking to the Doras in Hausa or vice versa, will get the point across.
