Other than the dusting of T'Challa, I have to admit though, Thanos punching the kinetic energy out of T'Challa's suit cracked me up for some reason.
That punch would not do anything to T'challa's suit. It would only do anything to the suit if thanos used a gem. It didn't seem like he used a gem with that punch.

We see twice in Black Panther that the suit can be overloaded, once with Killmonger's grenade and once due to the Rhino. Surely Thanos, who demolished Hulk in h2h without the stones should be able to overload it?

Easily. He made Hulk wimper lol
Thanos at that point wasnt playing many games. Im stunned bp and cap even woke up from those shots to the dome lol
We also know the weave can only take so much in the comics as well

It was bad writing. They don't know what they are doing with the power scale.

If it's Thanos punching you, it's going to do something.
He's a whole other level than almost anything we've seen in the MCU thus far. The fact that T'Challa even survives the hit arguably can be considered a feat.

Exactly. Everyone that caught some of Thanos hands were worse off for it.

C'mon.
Thanos beat Thor and Hulk with no sweat. And I mean a Triple H, Brock Lesner beat down.
The Russos gave everyone their moment to shine and they did.
But Thanos proved early on that he wasn't playing.

Hulk has taken shots from Abomination, mjolnir, hulkbuster, lightning thor...
Thanos made him wimper, cower, and refuse to come back out to play lol. The first shot thanos lands, you see the life drain from hulks face lol
-
Just to be clear, Thanos with the Power Gem did that. Doesn't necessarily change the rest of this conversation, but I don't believe that was baseline Thanos.

Yeah and when Thanos hit BP he had 5 gems. How anyone thought the suit was going to absorb that much power is beyond reason.
But he did survive so the suit did protect him.
-
I thought the movie did a good job with having each stone do something different. It wasn't one stone = really powerful punch, five stones = REALLY powerful punch. In other words, Thanos's strength comes from the Power Stone.

I beg to differ, Thanos ain't no slouch. And the habit in the mcu is arguably stronger then in the mu in some cases

Thanos was naturally strong/powerful before he got the stones.
But the bottom line is simply that Thanos is a major ass-kicker.

He actually hit BP with just his fist.
He held him by the throat with the guantlet then hit him with the gloveless had.
That was just baseline thanos. When he used gem, they made sure to show colors and show him close his guantlet fist
You can see the difference in this gif...

- Hulkbuster... blue... space stoned into a wall
- Cap... purple... wave from the power stone
- T'challa... grabbed by the throat... punched... no color until his head bounces off the ground, which was his suit discharging the energy.

I've seen them in the past and God, they look weird. Was the reasoning ever explained?

Those rhinos were on growth hormone. Hit harder than a grenade launcher lol
Idk if it overloaded but they both hit him harder enough to bypass the suit and knock the wind out of him

Didn't they pick him up and throw him? The suit wouldn't protect him from that

Kinda gored/threw him 100 yards.

suit was purple in the air but yeah, the landing after getting thrown that far coulda done it

Thanos can't even use the gems the right way. Thor without one gem tanked all the gems and Thanos. Thor was about to kill that trash villain. By the way this is bad writing Thor should not tank all the gems even with a new hammer.

The Russos do not understand the power scale of characters. Everyone didn't shine. Thanos was playing because he let Thor own him with all the gems. Thanos just got lucky Thor didn't headshot him because Thor is a moron.

I'll admit at least BP you could argue vibranium saved his life or something. Cap should have probably been out or in a coma. Russos had to give him a shinning moment tho.
I expected Thanos to beat Hulk and Thor but not mollywhop them as badly as he did. Thanos pounded Hulk like he was a toddler. I don't know why Thor couldn't even do anything till he got his new hammer. I didn't expect him to win but at least to do a little something. At least Hulk got in there landed a few good shots and bull rushed him into the wall before Thanos eye rolled him and put in the work.
Also I think people are overlooking Black Widow in these films, she's hanging h2h with aliens and people well outside her weight class. Outside of Winter Soldier and Ironman 2, I barely consider her a spy she's just like this crazy skilled action hero.

It's a new hammer specifically built to kill Thanos. We only have this movie to judge its power level and it appears it can tank the fire of the gems and severely injure Thanos.

I jokingly refer to her as having James Bond powers as she'll survive anything the plot needs her to survive.

Can't wait for Ta-Nehisi Coates new Black Panther #1. Best Black Panther writer. Great at world building.

I dont think widow is so bad when u remember mcu proxima isnt comic proxima. Okoye hung with her too
with the way thors powers tend to work, i doubt he could even use them on a tiny space ship effectively. Plus the whole black order was there and civilians.

what civilians? by the time the movie opened they were all dead. Heimdal Loki and Hulk were the only others still breathing. There were just dead bodies everywhere.

Looking at it Though it appears the habit still wasn't overloaded at all so I think it was only overloaded once.
Well I guess twice still. Technically it "overloaded" when Tchalla kicked it in the same spot in the lab

Coates the best BP writer?

Amen to that! The sooner Coates leaves the better.
-
I have to admit, reading this issue T'Challa was beating fools left and right, almost felt like Jason Bourne reincarnated.
As for the rest of the book, its not as bad as I thought it will be. Maybe one of the few Coates Issue that I like but despite this, the premise is still something I may have to adjust to.
-
I haven't read it yet, but the premise just feels like fun pulp Sci-Fi. I'm trying to think of the closest analogy. Maybe a John Carter of Mars or something like that. If you read X-Factor back in the day, the story Judgment War would be an example of what I'm talking about.
