I just can't find any conversation about IDW's deluxe or master editions and the IDW thread hasn't registered any activity in weeks... That's why I thought somebody from this thread could tell what IDW's deluxe editions are like.
Basically they should be like all deluxe editions, so oversized hardcovers. With 2 story arcs in each volume. Some extra's should be included too. As for production quality... Could be either sewn or glewn if I look at my other deluxe editions by IDW. Not sure where I read this then...

What are some of the fattest graphic novels to be had that are cheap?
I have the Batman Knightfall paperbacks DC released a few years ago. Sure, I enjoy premium grade books, but you can't beat a 1500+ pages stack of paperbacks to be had under $50 bucks.

The complete in one Bone TPB is pretty damn thick.

Stray Bullets Uber Alles edition. 1200 pages collectiong the first 41 issues of a great comic for $60. Walking dead compendium's are also well over 1000 pages each (reprinting 48 comics per volume) for $60. Another great deal are DC/VERTIGOS newer Hellblazer collections, each reprinting about a years worth of issues for $20. These are all available at CGN or IST for 38-45% off. Buy these books with the above discounts and the per-issue cost is like .75 to .90 each.

Stray Bullets is so good, go for it!
Dark Horse's The Life and Times of Martha Washington in the Twenty-first Century 600 pages for less than 30$ for the TPB version.
Last week's purchases:

not superhero stuff but quality material and thick for quite cheap: Complete Zot!, Sculptor, Blankets, Habibi, Strangers in paradise pocket books, From Hell.
From superhero books some DC tpb-s are quite cheap, like the Legion of Superheroes Great Darkness Saga and The Curse, Batgirl/Robin Year one (love that book) etc.
Also there are the Marvel Essentials and DC Showcases but that's originally coloured silver and bronze age material reprinted in B&W. Still, it's very cheap if you just want to consume old stuff (like Claremont's X-men). The Showcase books are crap quality even in their own cathegory.
Darkhorse has the Savage Sword of Conan series, those are also B&W but those stories were originally published in B&W so you don't loose anything.
The new Doc Savage Archives seems like a good value too (although it's a hc and b&w but it was originally b&w too)

a drifting life + mind mgmt are not, by any chance, off amazon.de marketplace? ;) had them on my watchlist too. there are more tatsumi volumes from d&q, and they're very beautiful. half-read one of them and liked it quite a bit.

Koff, koff... What is this "Warehouse Deals" you speak of? Koff, koff... ;-)
If I like Drifting Life enough, I'll certainly get more Tatsumi.
Btw, for the member who asked about huge-ass TPBs for a low price: these D&Q or Vertical Manga are a bargain and a half. Between 600 and 800 pages and can be found for around $10.

What are some good Detective/Mystery comics? I love a good mystery but I only like reading the best since solving mysteries is one of my few talents. What are some good detective/mystery books that are solvable without reading the conclusion but are still very hard to solve? Thanks in advance!

Just about anything by Bru/Phillips comes to mind.

Yep, like ER said anything Brubaker/Phillips. But I also recommend Stumptown, Gotham Central, Mind MGMT, Green River Killer, Morning Glories, District 14, From Hell, Blast (in Dutch), Arq and Capricornus (both Dutch), Ken Games (Dutch), Pachyderme, Sandcastle, Three Shadows, Genetiks, Femme Fatale (in Dutch), Station 16, Blacksad.

Hmmm I still need to pick up Stumptown and Blacksad.
Now that I think of it, Lazarus kind of fits the bill too.
Just in case someone hasn't already mentioned it, I wanted to point out that the new X-O Manowar "classic" Omnibus is some bullsh*t!
It's over-sized like most omnibuses, but the actual content, the art pages, are the same exact size as they were when they were originally published in their monthly issues way back when. The omnibus just adds huge borders around the art on each page (garish black borders on the very outside), to make the book look oversized, when the actual content is not.
I feel like I was misled, lied to and kinda' want my money back.

^^^^
I have the X-O Omnibus as well. I agree that making it oversized implies the expectation of oversized art as is standard for the format. That said, playing Devils Advocate I was also made aware that VEI(VALIANT) didn't have the original artwork from which to work. Presumably this accounts for what they did but I have to ask myself, does Marvel/DC have all the original art work for the Golden/Silver Age works they've successfully translated to Omini's with oversized art? Could VEI not have made digital scans and increased the art as necessary while accounting for the color saturation where needed? I suspect something like this is what Marvel & DC have done.
While I'm not as upset I'm glad to have the book if for no other reason it allows me to have the issues where Solar Man of the Atom and Turok guest star in the OG VALIANT. Cause we aren't going to see the VALIANT Universe versions of the GK3 in collected volumes anytime soon.
Thing is though, they could've just sold it as a regular sized collection without the black borders, which would've been fine and not decptive. But then they couldn't charge $99 for it - which just reveals their outright greed.

Maybe future volumes in Valiant's omnibus line will have oversized art, and they wanted to have the whole line be one uniform trim size rather than have one book be smaller than all the rest.
Also, who says they couldn't charge $100 for a standard trim hardcover? Ever heard of marvel masterworks and DC archives? It's their product, they can charge whatever they want.
Thanks for the replies guys.
I have some of it already or on my wish list but some I haven't heard of, I will check them out. Though wouldn't describe all Bru/Phillips collaborations as mystery books (only Fatale, Fade Out and parts of Criminal )

But as I said, they were deceptive about it. Heck, just not having that border be black would be an improvement.
Ha, guess what, Amazon are shipping my deluxe copy of the Final Incal 2 weeks in advance of the release date.

Scene of the Crime had me pretty well. Pretty short too, 4 issues. Kinda like a proto-criminal

Quantum and Woody Omnibus has oversized art! So maybe it was just as thing where they couldn't get the original/didn't want to stretch out the art in fear of ruining it?
Maybe future volumes in Valiant's omnibus line will have oversized art, and they wanted to have the whole line be one uniform trim size rather than have one book be smaller than all the rest.
I do feel there is evident truth in this assumption. Their first Omnibus, Quantum and Woody was oversized and they want their line to look uniform on the customers shelf.
Heck, just not having that border be black would be an improvement.
I do agree, the choice to go with black seems unusual. A more neutral color would've been better.

Which gets back to the rumor mill I'd heard where they had digital scans and/or the original artwork from which to work to produce the oversized art on the Q&W omnibus. They didn't for the X-O.
Like I said, I'm glad I have it and if it means some/all of the OG VALIANT era early 90's material has to be that way I accept it, just going forward be a bit more upfront about it to those who'll be sensitive to it(I'm not poking fun at slop101 to be clear).
Latest. Didn't realize March wasn't regular trade size. Not a big deal. I know the Earth One books aren't the best but that's a terrible cover.

Does anyone have the original Stray Bullets hardcovers? I'm in love with the series and keep circling around to them when looking at how to collect them physically (I'd get the rest of the issues bound to match). Do they contain extras? Do the original issues contain letters pages? Does the Uber Alles contain the Amy Racecar specials?
And for the crime/mystery suggestions: Murder Me Dead by Lapham is an excellent book that might be exactly what you want.

I’ve still got my original Stray Bullets HC’s. I love them, and wish they’d continued producing them.
They only released three hardcovers, collecting up to issue 22. A fourth had an ISBN assigned, but I sure haven’t ever seen one in print. Each hardcover has a small section of extras, perhaps 15 pages each? Binding single issues would be tough to match, because the hardcovers are nicely oversized (sorry for the dark pic attached showing the size difference). I bought the Uber Alles edition because I wanted everything collected, but I’m still holding onto the old hardcovers in the hopes that they’ll decide to use the same format again someday.
The Uber Alles edition has the Amy Racecar appearances from the main series, but not the color specials.

So I sold my invincible trades a few years ago and was thinking of replacing them with the hardcovers. Are they good builds or do they seem like they will fall apart down the line? I pick up the monthly so the wait between volumes is no big deal and the size is perfect for me.
The Ultimate linr is pretty nice and it has loads of extra's pre volume. I don't think they'll fall apart on me very easily
Cool thanks I wasn't even thinking about extras. You sold me :)
I made some pic if you want
my vol 1 is used so don't mind the dinged corners

It's glued but it's a pretty good glued binding

As you can see it (and every other volume) has a shitload of extra's. The red part consists of sketches with annotations by Kirkman and Ottley and the small part after that consists of scripts, covers and some text by the people invloved.

I usually despise glued books, but these are VERY good.

It's sewn actually. You can see the individual signatures very clearly.
Hey Victor, I already put in the first order but seeing all those pictures I'm not sure how I'm gonna get through the wait. Thanks for such a fast and thorough response.
