I got my copy a few days ago. Its about the size of the biggest Harry Potter so I wasnt that taken aback by its supposed huge size. Then I noticed the pages are almost like tracing paper thickness, so yeah... thats a lot of words. :/
Looking forward to cracking into it once Ive got through my to read pile though.
Hello guys, I will be in Amsterdam in the end of the week, could you recommend me any comicbook stores? Thanks a lot!
Aside from Lambiek I'd recommend "Het beeldverhaal". It's a bit more out of the way than the other stores but well worth the time.
edit:
The American Book Center on Spui als has a large collection of TPB's & HC's on the second floor.

My copy is on its way. It will be a big challenge for me to read it as Morre litterary English can be rather difficult at times (in France the chosen translator has planned one year to do the translation).

Ok, got my copy, only 500 bookplates have been made. Let me know if somebody is interested for trade.
Also have visited FP and they have sale for The Boys. Had to get those two, at least I can continue my read with the series.

I have been on the hunt for this for forever. I finally found it, but the guy would only sell it as a set. So I ended up getting doubles of a few definitive editions. Now, not only do I have 1-6, but I also have a duplicate 1,2,4,5,& 6. 5 was just as hard to find for a while.

I don't recall any release date on it but as of now Amazon has a mid Jan '17 date on it. So at least that eliminates cancelled. Do you recall a release date around now for it originally

July 12/16. It was solicited before The Death Defying Dr. Mirage and Ivar. It was put on Amazon at the same time X-O Volume 3 was. Maybe there were single issue delays, I don't follow it monthly.
-
Except there hasn't been a monthly Shadowman comic in over a year. Not sure what would explain the delay cause it wouldn't be delays with the monthly book.
Rumors are he's going to perhaps come back in 2017 with a new title.

Just because somebody's good at writing comics doesn't mean they're good at writing novels. And, to be fair, vice versa. So, no. I think it would take a lot of positive reviews from non-comics readers to get me interested in buying it.

That's what make Neil Gaiman such a freak of nature. His books for adults, his kids books, I think he even wrote the screenplays fir Beowulf and Stardust. Oh and of course the comics!

yeah he wrote Beowulf, also Newerwhere was a tv series before it was a novel and I think he had something to do with Mirrormask as well.
And speaking of him he wrote a review or foreword for Moore's previous book (the essay is collected in View from the cheap seats) and he really liked that one.
Also, Waren Ellis. Gun machine wasn't for me but that might be because of the audiobook's narrator. But oh man, Crooked little vein is amazing I love that book so much.

He's written a novel before though which was pretty well received. Plus various novellas and shorts.

Yeah, although in my opinion he's best at comics. He could be better at longform prose. The need to write descriptive action text doesn't play to his strengths and robs some of the meditative, dreamlike quality from his writing, which is something he does almost singularly well.
In comics I honestly rank Gaiman the #2 of all time behind Alan Moore, and even then Sandman takes top prize for best literature ever written in the medium.
He's written a novel before though which was pretty well received. Plus various novellas and shorts.
I know of his other novel but it doesn't get attention in any literary circles I'm aware of. It seems only comics readers have ever heard of it, and let's be honest, we're not the most discriminating bunch. I mean if it's a paperback with a picture of a Sith lord on the cover, most of us will probably buy it, ya know? But my MA in English lit kind of ruined me on bad writing, for better or worse. Unless it has pretty pictures with it, I guess, 'cause that's a whole different form of entertainment somehow.
I don't know. I can't say anything about Moore's novel writing prowess one way or the other without having read one. Just explaining my wariness to pick one up. I have my ear to the ground about this book though and hey, if it gets the right kind of attention to make me feel it's worthy of the time investment, I'm in.

I just have this sneaky suspicion that I would get about 100 pages into an Alan Moore novel and think "damn, this dude needs an editor," and never read another page.
As for Gaiman, the only book I finished by him was Good Omens, which I thought was superb (funny as hell, too) but he co-authored it with Terry Pratchett. Now, I've only read one Pratchett book but I could tell his fingerprints were all over Good Omens, at least the actual writing and humor. I suspect the plot was more Gaiman.

I'd agree with this. After finishing the 10 trades of Sandman fairly recently, I thought I'd try The Ocean at the End of the Lane. I couldn't help but think all the way through it that would've been better as a comic. I was left a bit underwhelmed by it and I was expecting it to blow me away.

Try Smoke and Mirrors (if you want to give him another shot) which is a short story collection or Anansi boy which is a spin off to American gods but IMHO better and much more light hearted. Although I tend to like Gaiman's prose anyway and I think The Ocean at the End of the Lane was fantastic, it's not my favourite. Donno, I just like how he writes and love to listen to him reading his own work.

Angels and Visitations is another collection of his short stories that I would recommend. It was my introduction to Gaiman's prose work, and I really enjoyed it. For what it's worth; I think it is has some content overlap with Smoke and Mirrors.
Personally, not all of Gaiman's novels have wowed me. Some were fantastic; while others left me a little disappointed. American Gods and Anansi Boys were the two that I felt weren't his best. But pretty much everything else of his I have loved – especially The Graveyard Book and The Ocean at the end of the Lane.

Oh I could listen to Gaiman talk for hours. Maybe I should've bought the audiobook of The Ocean at the End of the Lane instead. I'll add Smoke and Mirrors to my wishlist. Thanks for the recommendation.

he wrote two so far, The Doctor's wife which is a fantastic episode and Nightmare in silver which was a huge letdown especially after The Doctor's wife. Hopefully he will return for at least another one that will save his reputation as a DW writer (although The Doctor's wife is soooo good I kind of forgive Nightmare).

I haven't read any new Gaiman novels but even his kids books are great. Coralline is such a creepy funny story with a terrific heroine. I remember loving American Gods and I think Smoke and Mirrors has a scary Snow White story. Oh my god and Sandman Overture somehow managed to be terrific!

Hi Ivizzz.
I have received my bookplate edition today from Gosh! (ordered in June), but the bookplate was absent :(. I have contacted them but while I wait for a response, I would like to know if you still got your copy, in case they will not be able to fulfill their engagement.

Yeah the Snow White story is called Snow, glass, apples and it is really good I think that was my favourite from the collection.

The big Tintin book is amazing. It is almost 800 pages long, contains tons of articles, letters etc. from the whole run of the magazine and - most importantly - about 600 pages of short stories by some of the most famous European artists like Franquin, Herge, Herrmann, Vance etc. And it only cost €39.

everyone is raving about it in the Omnibus collector FB group although someone here mentioned it that the book feels a bit cheap. It probably had a low print run and once it's gone it's gone and we will get a tpb edition later like with other Moore books.
100 euros might be a bit much though. I've preordered mine from Forbidden Planet 2 days before release day and it went on backorder but they just despatched it today and it was only 46.5 pounds.

Wow, thanks for that! Just blindly put in an order as I've never purchased anything there before, and want to secure the price, we'll see if it ships.
Do you (or other mainland EU collectors) know what kind of shipping costs I'm looking at for Belgium? Around 7-8 pounds - or around 20? would still be less than the 100 EUR I was looking at earlier today...
