in other news, I'm reading the Fanta Usagi Yojimbo slipcase and so far I had fun with the stories but just read Mother's love and Return of the blind swordspig and damn! All the feels!
Quite adult stuff btw, lots of death and bloodshed, not as all ages as I expected. It's not a bad thing, certainly a truly all ages book couldn't get away with an ending like Mother's love, it's just a bit of in contrast with the art style but not in a bad way.
Are they releasing all albums? Is this bigger then the facsimile ones?
I don't know about the facsimile ones, this is 42 cm high and AFAIK they only did these 2 in this format (I only have Secret of the Unicorn which I acquired by accident when I ordered a used paperback and got this one instead).

It's such a beautiful series. I've read the box set in just 2 days... and I bought the first DH volume the day after. (The Dragon Bellow Conspiracy and Samurai are two great saga)
Am I the only one thinking that the man on The Eternaut book looks like Rick Deckard from Blade Runner? The series was written in the 50-60s tough...

Yeah. It's a series that needs to be spread out and read. Considering the latest issue, a cool new story arc may be inbound.

Mainly Euro comics this week, but I also found Adrian Tomine's limited edition (2,000 copies) hardcover for Sleepwalk. Really excited about that! Next up to find his Summer Blonde HC.

@up - more Thorgal, very good.
Can you tell us more about Sleepwalker? And what's so special about this edition? Is it signed?

This edition was published in 1997 and includes a signed and numbered bookplate.

It looks like the facsimile ones as they have only published these two (and no plan to my knowledge to publish the rest of the collection in that form).

a fun little thing from a guy called Sean Leslie from fb (Oni press shared it):
"Brian Hurtt revealed they originally wanted the Sixth Gun Vol. 3 Gunslinger Edition slipcase to be covered in white faux fur but couldn't because of cost. I thought this would have been awesome since it would have kept the theme of the previous Gunslinger Edition's slipcases (coffin and mummy bandages). So I went ahead and made a custom slipcase for my slipcase."

Got The hole of Tank girl an Rip Kirby vol 7 today and surprisingly I'm more impressed with Rip Kirby than with TG. The slipcase of Tank girl feels somewhat cheap but otherwise nice book. But flipped through RK and it feels like a really well made book with a really nice matte paperstock. IDW at least give us quality books for the price they charge, now I'm even more inclined to try out the complete Dick Tracy books they publish.
On the other hand I'm a bit annoyed by Popeye. The book is huge but the strips themselves are really small. I think it would have been better if they cut the strips in half and enlarge them because it's a bit hard to read.
Halfway through The Eternaut and damn that's an awesome book! Can't believe we had to wait like 50-60 years for an english translation. And what a nice presentation. I would highly recommend this as a Christmas present for any sci-fi fans who are interested in comics even a little bit. The slipcase, the die cut and the hard plastic seathrough dj gives it a nice novelty value while the content is just as satisfying.
Anybody has any experience with Hermes press? Reproduction quality, build of the books? They are quite pricey and I'm not sure if the material worth it but I would like to try some Phantom and Buck Rogers some day.

I'm using the isbns sites (co.uk but you can use it with any dot something) and it didn't list any webshops that ship to the UK other than FP until a few days ago. Still, the prices are ridiculous.
I think both series were great, they should have done them in one book. 8 issues of each series in a volume or something like that.

I know it doesn't mean anything for most of you guys but Eternal War by haldeman will be released in HC in deluxe format. One of my favourite comics of all time. What a day, what a lovely day.
-
The Eternal War is a great book, good to see it's getting a new edition. Who's publishing this new edition; Titan? It would fit in their current lineup of Eurocomic classics.

I did, too. I think we're the minority, though. I'd love two omnibuses - one for this series and one for the other. Probably won't happen.

Aw man, I got excited for a moment! Marvano's adaptation of The Forever War was one of the things that got me much more interested in European creators when I was like 12 or 13. I've been hoping that some publisher would come out with a nice hardcover edition. My old NBM albums are pretty dog eared after multiple rereads. It'd be nice to see someone bring out the sequel series as well in English.

Really dumb question.
At what "width" do you distinguish an issue from a trade. IE - how thick does a book have to be to go from where you keep singles to where you keep trades.
For example I have a couple double and triple sized issues that are still kind of thin but have a square spine with the title on them etc. WOuld you keep those with trades or with single issues?

The "Prestige Format" issues? I only have two or three of them and I keep them on my shelf since they're part of certain collections. I think two of them are even bagged and boarded since that's how they were shipped to me when I ordered them. It's up to you what to do with them though, mine are mostly on my shelves cause I only have a small shortbox for my floppies.

I know what you mean, when I've found out I was almost jumping. Loved this book as a kid, when humans land on this new planet and wiped out all aliens just because they were aliens - sooooo good. Can't wait to read it again in deluxe format, art was amazing.

I shelve/organize my Prestige Format books with the rest of my trades.
If only they had plans for a Sequel to the criminally underrated Dredd
Movie wasn't underrated but people have chosen to watch some stupid crap with Adam Sandler.
Here's a video from producer what chances are for sequel, awesome stuff, lots of information about financing movies. I would recommend Dirty Laundry from his channel, Punisher fun-fiction video.
People should realise that when they choose to watch/read/buy something they also support said thing. If they choose to watch another Transformers movie or some other shite then we never have a chance for such a great movie like Dredd. Unfortunately people are stupid.

Dredd is a weird movie, people are either very grateful for it and love it or outright call it crap, rarely anything between these.
Even though I'm not a Dredd fan an seen The raid before this I really liked Dredd (btw, anybody who appreciates action movies, watch the Raid films).
Also, movie goers are not stupid, they just don't care enough and not even about supporting but the movies themselves.
Give them something that has a novelty value and makes them not to think about their life for 2-2,5 hours.
Back in Hungary 98% of the cinemas only show 95% of the movies with hungarian dub which is AWFUL, like offensively bad translation and acting wise. But lot of people don't speak english and can't be bothered with subtitles so they just watch whatever is on with dub, no matter what it is. I witnessed that situation when a guy went to a movie he had no idea about just because the one he originally wanted to see was in english with subtitles, and I wanted to scream in frustration. But what can you do when people just don't care.
And you can apply that to comic book readers as well. Give me Batman or X-men or whatever brand, no matter the writer, artist or story quality, I want THAT brand and I don't care about anything else, even though the kind of entertainment I seek from these books are not in them but rather in independent books and those need my support but I just want Batman or whatever.
And I don''t talk about the board members here but rather the casual readers.

Ok, I can agree with that, people are ignorant then ;)
I'm not saying that Dredd is masterpaece because it's not, story is super simple, just another 'day in the office' for Big Chin, this time with rookie on his side. He does his job, provides justice left and right and that's why is so good. No stupid save-humanity-from-baddie plot, no bad jokes like Sly, just pure Mega City reality for judges and creeps. And this slow-mo ma! I even watched in 3D and I disgrace 3D, it's a gimmick, nothing else but for some reason producers still think people care about it. There is only one movie worth watching in 3D - and in IMAX, nowhere else - and it's Avatar: mind blowing, even if story is crap.
You have dubbed movies in cinemas?! WTF, I can imagine stuff for kids but all other....Weird, weird, must be local thing like having translator only in TV. Yep, that's the thing in Poland, from what I know it's only country in Europe where one can experience it.
Btw Balakin if you ever would visit London, let me know, we have to meet and drink few pints. Also I'd recommend latest Dredd book, Devlin Vaughn, very heavy plot, something what could have been written by Morrison except lack of references, didn't like it at all, last two books from Hachette are the worst ones so far but it might be your cup of tea.

definitely will let you know if I end up going to London, although bit too expensive for my liking (much prefer Brighton). And yeah everything is dubbed in Hungary, TV is 99.5% cinema is 98%. seen avengers the first time like that because it was free and a day before the premier, it was okay, didn't ruin the experience (honestly, the whole theatre could have fallen to pieces around me I wouldn't have cared much, I was just so excited) but it totally ruined X-men DoFP, it was so horrible haven't seen the movie since then, left a bad taste in my mouth.
Might go back and try some Dredd at some point again. I liked America but over all the Dredd-verse just not my thing I think.

Ripping through my back log the past couple of days, just finished the Valiant, smallest Valiant book I have (four issues) but pure Lemure dynamite, an excellent story and excellent art by....someone I who's name eludes me, very recommended, and pretty much a great introduction to the Valiant universe, as it is a complete standalone story

Speaking of valiant, don't know if it was mentioned but deluxes for Rai, Ivar and the Book of Death are on Amazon.
