Any tips on when are the best time to cop a new omnibus from IST? Are new books purchasable the minute it hits midnight or is there a specific time? I'm probably going to purchase my first omnibus and that is the Roger Stern Spider-Man one coming back during April. I don't want to miss out on this one because the little of what I read from him was fantastic.
If you're going to use IST to purchase this omni, one thing to remember is IST new releases go on sale Tuesday afternoon.I would recommend you looking at their "coming soon" for the estimated date for purchase, and put it in your wish list.
I live on the east coast,so it's 3:00 pm for new releases for me.

Thanks! I live in the east coast as well so this is helpful. The coming soon date says it would be on a Wednesday.

The coming soon dates are a little off. Some items say Wednesday but everything for that Wednesday gets released the Tuesday before. Some items also don't get put in stock on their "coming soon" placeholder page and IST creates a new product page when its in stock. If you want something with a Tuesday or Wednesday release date for a certain week, your best bet is to just refresh the IST home page at 3pm Eastern on Tuesdays until you start seeing the new releases update, then start looking for what you wanted.

As Bob said, it is 3pm est but for anyone else just adjust to your time zone accordingly. I'm in Central Standard Time(cst) so for me it is 2pm, Mountain Time would be 1pm and Pacific 12 noon. Also of note is that the last month things have been a bit wonky. Some titles have posted 10-15min apart making it frustrating to fill your cart with one order before an item *might* sell out. Two weeks ago the posting was delayed to around quarter past the hour.

Is this worth a blind buy?

The art ist fantastic, but the stories are very meh (not only my opinion, just do to goodreads and such...)

Cheers, that’s saved me some money then
-
I'm on the fence about those Madman books - I gave Gargantua and Atomic, and I really like Allred's art...but I have most of what the Library line is going to publish collected. Errrhggg
-
What’s the best way you guys manage to fish image and dark horse books? I usually try to use Amazon but going by publisher on Amazon for these two companies is broken, at least on .ca, and you need to be extremely literal with the search terms because of it.

Absolutely. The characterisation, the themes of love and romance, the sheer whackiness of the stories, the world building, the creativity. Its one of the best comics of all time, regardless of the art. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but instead of buying yet another Marvel or DC book with the same characters and tropes, I think any comic collector should at least give it a try. There's nothing like it out there.

Question for those with Kallax shelves from IKEA...
Obviously you cannot always fill an entire cube with books. I have a few cubes that have considerable free space. Does anyone use bookends/etc. to keep their books snug/from falling over?

I use bookends for some. but mostly I actually do fill them out. I also use related soft toys and some figurines if appropriate, for example my James Bond cars are in boxes that I can use to bookend my James Bond books.
-
I've often gotten the bug to shop for bookshelves. But I do have a walk in closet (with a door) with shelves that I've been storing books in so far, so then I think meh I'll just keep using that. Just need to trim my collection of 100s of TPBs to just the gems though to have a "true" bookcase worthy of perusing and running my fingers across the book spines :)

Buy enough books to fill each cube two deep!

Thanks for the suggestion! I did end up with some simple book ends from Amazon and they seem to be doing the trick.
Buy enough books to fill each cube two deep!
HA! I am actually purging and narrowing down my collection, so this may work against my original goal ;)
-
Yeah, I have 4 Kallax shelves in my house and they're all filled to the brim. There are even books stacked horizontally across the top of most cubes. I've been trying to purge as well the past month or so, but all I end up doing is finding something I missed (how? no idea!) and running off to buy it and fill in the gap. *eyeroll*.
I've actually had dreams about my place burning down and having to choose which books get saved...

Does anyone have the release date for the Official Handbook Of The Marvel Universe: Deluxe Edition? I know it is this month but when?

I had been wanting to do another purge for a while now, but kept telling myself everything I owned I wanted. I looked through my collection again and picked out 2 cubes worth of books I knew I was never going to read again. So out they go!

Next Tuesday the 9th.

Anyone purchase books from B&N recently?
I had to place an order with them for 2 trades since they seem to be OOP and IST & CGN do not have them in stock.
I have a few concerns...
1. Anyone ever have their orders canceled? Little nervous since they seem to be out of stock everywhere else.
2. Has their packaging gotten any better? I remember seeing posts here about receiving damaged packages from them, which equals damaged books.
-
Fantagraphics are reprinting Segar's Popeye! Not those 6 hardcover volumes, but in paperback and separating the Sunday strips from the dailies. The first volume of Sundays comes out later this year.

I ordered from there for several years when they had the Buy2Get3 coupled with the Black Friday discount. They always had bad packaging. The last book I ordered from them, IIRC, was Shang-Chi Vol. 1 Omnibus and it came with a couple of dinged corners :(

Yup, both trades arrived damaged. I returned them to the store.
Luckily my store had copies of both in perfect condition (even though the website said they had 0 stock).

At least 60% of the books I ordered from them came damaged in some form or another. The only good side is that they gave me total refunds on some of the books and allowed me to keep them. On others, I received part refunds. I've never ordered from them again.

So I guess the Criminal Deluxe editions didn’t come out today as advertised. Anyone know when they might drop?
-
Did the Complete Witchblade HC vol.2 sell out that fast on IST today? I was there at 2:12cst and only the softcover remained.

I seem to recall the first volume dropped the HC the week or two after the tpb. I'm betting the same thing here, because I didn't see it either

Looks like next week, unless they get pushed again.

Did I miss the Criminal Deluxe Vol. 1 reprint on IST? People claim their LCSes got it on 4/21. CGN is selling it via special order and Amazon has it to be back in stock in May (allegedly). I don't even see an OOS listing for the reprint edition on IST.

I never saw it and checked every Tuesday at 3... hoping this Tuesday... I am sure that they will get it... kind of disappointing that there is zero communication from them though...

Am I reading correctly that Invisible Kingdom vol 3 (G Willow Wilson) is an OGN and didn't come out as singles?

Cool, thanks.
IST had it as coming out today but seems to have gotten pushed back.

Vols. 1 and 2 of the Criminal deluxe are on IST's site but have the covers of the old editions. Surely those are the reprints though, right? Those old editions have been out of print for some time.
I emailed them to make sure but still placed an order because I don't want to miss out on them becoming out if print again given how collections are selling now.

Do the Black Hammer Library editions get reprinted or should I pick up the rest now while I can?

I should pick them up now if you can. There are a few which are hard to find already.

They will be for the new Image editions with the new covers. Those old covers are from when Marvel/Icon was publishing the book.
