I didn't realize Magnus had come out with anything after Valiant. I guess I should have been paying closer attention. Not sure I would have liked the various versions mentioned on Wikipedia. I had assumed the rights were held by Valiant and maybe they would try the series again if X-O Manowar and others were successful.
The only post-Valiant Magnus series I read was the recent one by Dynamite. I enjoyed it a lot, although it got a little too cerebral for me toward the end.

I'm curious, are most people rooting for these 3 to go back to Valiant, to outright purchase/own the rights and incorporate them back into the Valiant universe, or would you guys prefer they stay their own separate entity?

I agree -- I thought it was good until the last couple of issues. Then it felt like it sorta lost the thread a bit. But the first 8 or so issues were really good.

If Valiant could do it - I would like them to purchase the rights & incorporate the Gold Key characters back into the shared Valiant Universe.

As someone who's been a huge fan of the renewed Valiant Universe - I think only Magnus "fits" in now. They could work him into Rai's future world. Solar and Turok don't really work in their shared universe anymore, IMO.

I would vote for them not being brought back. I don't see any place for them in the current Valiant, and would rather see Valiant continue to develop new characters than try to shoehorn these characters in.

I don't know that it would be shoehorning... given the long history these characters have with the company. If anything, Divinity feels like a bit of shoehorning... to fill the gap that Solar has left in the Valiant Universe.

No doubt about it, those three characters are primarily associated with Valiant, so I get what you're saying from that regard. I just think that the current iteration of the Valiant Universe is being built without these characters, so there would potentially be shoehorning to fit them in. We have Divinity now, with a mythology being built around him. Where would Solar fit?

Magnus has been a blast and the 12 issues that we are going to get are going to be great companions to my 90s Valiant collection.:)

Anyone read Gold Key Alliance #1?

I plan to read Gold Key Alliance this afternoon.

I'm also in this camp. They are a foundation portion of VALIANT and are missed. I frankly find it an interesting bit of duality that the same people who praise how VEI is doing things would doubt the ability of them to reincorporate the GK3 into the VU. It's not shoehorning them in, I find this talking point phrase laughable. Any time a character is introduced it runs the risk of feeling fluid or forced...ANY character. So those so eager to embrace Divinity, Brittania or Savage but off hand dismiss the GK3 are being disingenuous.

Wow. Laughable talking points. Disingenuous. Careful how you use your opinions round these parts, folks.

Hey so umm... Why are you guys excited for this new Gold Key thing? Didn't the last try fail miserably?

My opinion, take it or leave it.
Since Gold Key Alliance #1 was jumping around quite a bit and only giving a marginal look at each character in this new setting it's hard to say where things could go for any of them. All show just as much promise as disappointment so it seems only fair to give issue #2 a look.

I picked up the first (2014) volumes of Turok, Solar, Magnus, and Spektor on Comixology a few months back and have finally got around to reading them. I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying each one. When I read the Gold Key Alliance #1 earlier I didn't even like it enough to buy the second issue, but these relaunched series seem pretty solid. It's too bad Dynamite hasn't been able to implement a shared universe to the same effect that Valiant did in 2012.
On a related note, I've enjoyed the King comics as well, even though those solo runs were a lot more inconsistent. Between all these characters, Dynamite could have a pretty big cast of characters. Why haven't they merged them all?
UPDATED:
Ok, now that I've finished each of the first volumes, I have to say I'm generally disappointed. Each is four issues in length, and while I enjoyed each story, none of them really felt like complete arcs. It was like I wasn't left wondering where the character would go next, I was still wondering where exactly they were now, if that makes sense. Doctor Spektor interested me the most with the little crossover it teases, but then it ended with an absolutely baffling final sequence. I may keep reading Solar, but that's it.
For the record, each issue is 1.99 on comixology and the collection is 8.99, so it's actually cheaper to read them individually unless you want a ton of bonus materials at the back end of the collected edition.
