Very interesting thing that sould be mentioned over @ Kris Anka's and Rainbow Rowell's Twitter Page{s} is the numberous comments regarding Doom's fashion within This Month's RUNAWAYS....!!!

I just checked that out. Now I have to get this issue but [spoil] Is Victor trying to bring back the 1920's with those spats?[/spoil] But now I do see that Michael Jackson wore them in the Smooth Criminal video. ;)
It's a great design - and not the first good one An ka did for Doom!
Maybe we should have our own Fashion Week to see which we like best ;)
So I need to dig out some good old posts from our MIA friend
To be honest, I always hoped one of Doom's redesigns would more akin to that. Don't get me wrong, the classic get-up is...well, a classic, but it needed some upgrades. More detailed clasps, a bit of texture on the cape, a different kind of tunic, a more ornate armour, stuff like that. I've stumbled across some pretty good ones myself:
The first one is by Kris Anka. He redesigned a couple of villains a while back, Doom being one of them. This doesn't have the ornate armour look, but it's IMO a great update. It's still elegant and fit for a king, but it does away with the "dated" elements. Instead of a tunic, he gets a Byzantine dress. Instead of wearing his cloak on top of his armour, he gets metalic gauntlets and boots. It's more elegant.
The second one is by some on DeviantArt, who redesigned most FF characters. The sash is actually an apron, meant to show Doom's humble beginnings and to show to his people that he's still close to them. He also said that the clasps and the crown have some references to some Latverian myths (not canon). It's a neat little idea, as it fleshes out Latveria a bit as well. It gives the country some backstory and makes Doom seem a bit more rooted in the customs of it.
I like the first one. It reminds me a bit of the Fantastic Four cartoon from around 2005.
I'd have to add his post-Secret Wars look
One Wiki Entry claims that the events of Unthinkable were erased for example. I’d be OK with that except if it goes back that far, what else would be erased?
I really hope that the events of Unthinkable are erased. It was not a bad FF arc (far from it) but it almost destroyed Doom, because the best villains at Marvel were always villains that you can't condone but you can understand:
- Magneto was a mutant supremacist, but he is also a holocaust survivor, shaped by what he have seen about the human nature.
- Loki is an adopted child, who was never really loved by his father.
- Namor is a ruler of a kingdom literally used by surface dwellers as a dumpster.
- And Doom was a poor child from a hunted minority who (contrary to Reed, a privileged child from a rich scientist dad) fought and rose by himself.
And he is a member of the FF: it's the uncle with a bad influence that nobody want to see, but that you will always try to help and change, because he is part of the familly.
But with Unthinkable this dynamic stopped, they made him a pure psycho, who viciously kill an ex-girlfriend and put a child in hell. If you don't erase this, you make Doom a one-note villain, unforgivable and with no depth, worse than Red Skull.
Otherwise, it was a very good week for Doom. I loved his little appearance in the Marvel two in one. Like always, Chip Zdarsky really understand these characters.

It certainly was a good week for Doom. Lots of fun stuff. And that's a pretty unique trait we've seen over the years is that there can be the ruthless and feared adversary Doom and then you have a story where he takes Santa Claus's place.
I totally agree with about the long term effect of Unthinkable had things continued even further in that direction, although I have a hard time coming up with how Waid could have made Doom even worse. Cannabalism maybe. I sometimes think of it as Waid's attempt to turn Doom into a Hannibal Lector, since there was the other killer in that story that Starling was looking for with Lector's help. If you recall Buffalo Bill as he was called skinned the women he killed and was making clothes from it. I can't think of any other reason why Waid would veer off into that direction with Doom. JMS seems to just want to get rid it it right off the bat when he brings Doom back in his Fantastic Four. I think Marvel realized Waid had painted Doom into a corner so to speak.
Some Maleev goodness from some commission work he did at FanEXPODallas2018 this past weekend. He sure likes to do a sword-wielding Doom!
The Hellboy is for you, Abe! This would make a cool image on a T shirt

Beautiful! Thanks Iron Maiden, for Doom and the Hand of Doon! :)
I explored around Maleev's Twitter and found a couple more of his works he did that I missed somehow

I think this one from last fall is my favorite and I could see Doom himself using it as his official portrait! I like that he included the Latverian flag but with different colors in the background. And Maleev really is into giving Doom a sword! I'd like to see that happen more often in the comics.

Nice catch, IM! Excellent commission art. I love the Doom logo in yellow, the face too - a bit different from the book, isn't it? - and of course the sword!
I wonder if such a weapon could be helpf0ul for Victor in a fight... It would probably depends of the adversary - I can't think of any - and I guess that Vic would add to bit a bit of science and sorcery.
(Stupid idea : now that Marvel has the right for Conan back, I could buy a few issues of Doom traveling back to the Hyperborean age! ;))
I absolutely love how Maleev portrays Victor's mask. The mask is not only simple but elegant in design. Right to the point as it should be. I hate it when artists simplify or over design the mask, it's his face most days so it should look fitting for a king and yet very utilitarian considering it will get banged up should he receive any "guests". In-universe though I'd love to know what his armory looks like. Like what is his Wednesday armor?
I was actually just thinking about the sword today thanks to this artwork. It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility that Victor would use one. I can imagine him using an elegant mystic blade for supernatural foes, but I can also imagine him using a sword formed from his armor (kind of like a more respectable version of Alex Mercers arm sword) for the more baseline opponents. That being said if he had a shield, mystic or otherwise, I'm almost positive it would be his logo.

There was the one Iron Man/Doom mini-series called Iron Man: Legacy of Doom, the last of what David Michelinie and Bob Layton called their trilogy (starting with Iron Man 149-150 & 249-250) with a Camelot tie in. I didn't think it was as good as the previous 2 but it did have Doom using a sword against Iron Man. I think it was in Iron Man #250 that Doom was not successful in being able to use Excalibur.
Wasn't there a scene in Hickman's Fantastic Four where Val built her own light sabre? I thought for sure she might be creating it for her Uncle Doom but Hickman didn't go there. That would have been a priceless scene
I like the way Maleev did Doom's face in the second one and it is better than in the comics. I can see Victor having a portrait like this done of himself

Like I was saying to Abe, I'd love to see Doom have his version of a light sabre. I recall he did use something called an ionic blade against the Red Skull in the fight on the Moon in SVTU. That's one thing I think I've missed and that is that writers don't really show his inventiveness that much these days.
I've seen where Maleev will write a little shout out to his colleage and do something of Doom that will have a "after Ribic" on the piece. I know it was on the page where Doom tells Amara of his time on Battleworld. This was on the panel that is for sale IIRC. The one in the post with Hellboy sort of looks like Ribic's Doom but the second one looks more like Maleev's. It is a kind of minimal styled version of Kirby's mask but I'd say Maleev's is more elegant. There's not all the rivets, etc. that Kirby liked to do. I like the think that later versions Doom found better ways to mold the mask so that rivets wouldn't be required. His first mask was made with the tools that were available at the monastery in Tibet so I can see that the rivets were just Doom using the materials at hand. I think that's what I miss about the Infamous armor, the lack of a nose piece. At least that would make it less of a copy of Tony's should he choose to keep a more modern look to his armor.
I like the black and silver look in that cover I posted and at first that's what I believed the colorist was using in the early issues of Infamous Iron Man. But it was a very dark green at times.
