Muchas gracias, ASD! :) Javi did an AMAZING job...taking an already gorgeous piece (as can be expected from Byrne) and turning it into that much more an explosion of a story I wish could have been told for real by Byrne in his prime.
Another timeless favorite of mine, recreated by Byrne and colored by Javi.

Gah! what happen to Ben's forearms. They look as though they've been compressed for too long.

They look fine to me. Evidently, you've never seen the original...

I'll just let my supervisor demonstrate my further thoughts on this (as well as the upcoming fall of himself AND Valeria-fest)...

Lettered preview for Fantastic Four #6 is up. And I gotta say, if Sue lashes out in Malice-mode, even the Avengers have to keep their distance.

Really loving the work of Leonard Kirk and Karl Kesel on the inks on this series.
-
I have to say I'm not cool with the Avengers keeping the Fantastic four from their home. I understand the logic behind it, odds are someone would try to steal something from them but at a time where they are getting evicted, Johnny losing his powers, and the kids being taken away by SHIELD as well as Val with Doom, it may have been a bad time to do this.
-
Definitely getting Fantastic Four Annual #1 when it comes out. Kick his a** Sue!

But in the end, please, PLEASE allow Val-Ware to remain in Latveria. Or MUCH better yet, may a certain other fate that is better off unsaid among Val-Ware's fans for now find itself bestowed upon the FF title spotlight thief...but, drat, I most certainly wouldn't bet that way, in all of my 'villainy'.
Speaking of any and everything that is the 'good' Doctor*, check out what I landed a few nights ago on ye olde eBay (and apologies for the size of the photos, which are directly from eBay)...

A rare (made in 1997, with the manufacturer having been defunct for sometime) and very Bowen-reminiscent take on the FF's best ever villain...right down to that Latveria/Doom seal handle, which I absolutely love.
* - I say it A LOT...Dr. Pepper's Madison Avenue honchos really missed out on not doing a radio and/or animated ad with Doom (and possibly the FF breaking into his castle in the process) during the "Trust Me, I'm A Doctor!" campaign. That honestly would have rocked..."Unlike Richards, Doom can determinate all 23 flavors of this formula!"

Hi everyone.
I'm interested in reading some fantastic four, but I have absolutely no idea where to start. (There's an enormous number of FF comics!) I'm reasonably familiar with the characters from their appearances in other books. Any recommendations for a well written run where the characters "feel" right? And is the current run worth picking up?
-
Well, I liked Waid's run, Hickman's was pretty good too, some people aren't into his slow burn, long game style, but I thought it was done well enough. I can't really say much for the current run though. I haven't read any of it yet.
-
Well, if you like old school the classic Lee/Kirby otherwise Hickman as far as modern writers and Bryne's for something in the middle
-
Thank you both. I think I'll try Byrne first, (I love his She Hulk) and then checkout Hickman and Waid.
I love Kirby's pictures, but I can't handle Stan Lee's writing.
-
I think if you are willing to pay for an Omnibus, you could get Hickman's for the reasons Overhazard mentions. Hickman's run truly began with his Fantastic Four: Dark Reign mini and I believe that is included. IMO Hickman is the first writer in quite some time that made the Fantastic Four (and its' sister title FF) epic again yet not forget the human element. Another theme that dominates is fathers and their children. Quite a lot of it deals with Nathaniel reconnecting with his son Reed, Reed coming to terms with Franklin and his powers, and to a lesser extent Bentley Witmann and his clone Bentley 23, Doom and his adopted heir Kristoff Venard and Valeria and her self-appointed godfather Doom.
Hickman does use elements from John Byrne's run so you may want to look into that Omnibus or maybe some of the Visionaries series done from his Fantastic Four. Sometimes you can pick those up for a pretty decent price.
The current run is starting to shape up rather well. It started off a bit slow for an issue or two but I think it is gathering steam especially with a confrontation between Sue and Doom over Valeria coming up in a few issues.

I will third the recommendation to start with Bryne. His run has been collected in two Omnibus, or in several trades (9?). I haven't read Waid and Wieringo's run, but plenty of folks like it. It's been collected in 3 oversized hardcovers (though the 2nd one is HTF at a reasonable price), as well as several trades (6?)
I also loved Hickman's FF run (will be collected in two Omnibus, and is out in PHC and trade, I believe), but if you want a place to _start_, I'd recommend Bryne, instead.
