I don't think Spider-man was chosen or anything I think Manifold was dieing and he was just grabbing people. I think the real cargo Reed mention is really the FF kids.
I love how Peter seem more interested in saving people than mixing it up with the Ultimate Universe.

Peter is chosen because there is simply no other person like him in the marvel u.
Don't know if I'd call being one of a handful of survivors of your reality lucky.
Ostensibly, Aunt May, MJ, Betty, Flash are all gone.
Fair enough. But since we know they're not I'm just overusing meta context here.:p

I'm actually not clear on that. I know there will be an Aunt May, MJ, Betty, Flash after Secret Wars . . . but they're not going to be the 616 versions (not exactly at least). So, the idea that the 616 versions are dead seems very possible.
I don't know where this is coming from, but I'm seeing people say there are only supposed to be a few dozen survivors from 616 and 1610 combined in the patchwork Manhattan on Battleworld.
Well, it's weekly, so we'll find out quickly enough I suppose.

They'll have to be recreated/"reborn" somehow, though, and with a very similar backstory/relationship to Peter so that he isn't completely, existentially torn apart at losing "his" loved ones, as you point out.
It all comes to the elephant in the room I'm fearing with Secret Wars (despite its enjoyable first issue): how can Marvel pretend that the next universe, whatever it might be, will be just like our world again? Unless there are some massive reset buttons to the ending, something this big cannot just... end. You can't pretend it didn't happen nor ignore the equally big consequences for a fictional civilization that's gathered proof of the multiverse and seen Earths die and be formed. And we possibly haven't reached the craziest $%## yet!

I'm half expecting them to reveal Peter and MJ reunited during the time skip that all the Marvel books went through to get to Secret Wars. So when we pick up in the new universe, Peter is unsure if the people around him are really the people he knew before.
(Which would be a weak way of doing things since they took Peter away from those people following Superior.)
-
I can't imagine anyone is gonna stay dead after Secret Wars. The FCBD Avengers book had plenty of civilians running around, not to mention the folks on the team.

I expect everything to go wrong with that. They're all Skrulls or something! :p

If the recent "Amazing Spider-Man" is any indication, Peter was pulled on board simply to take all the verbal abuse and blame for the destruction of the universe.

(Are we going to talk about the Punisher's appearance in this comic? That was the best part.)
Honestly, I'm starting to think the book wasn't very good if everyone's favorite moment was a panel of Frank Castle threatening to shoot a bunch of bad guys. That's literally the exact same thing he does in every book he appears in. If that's Hickman's high point the next 7 issues are really gonna drag....;)

It's not just going to be Peter, but the other survivors as well. Since they might find it difficult to adjust to Battleworld.

The Punisher scene was a funny and unexpected interruption in the story. While everyone else is fighting the invading forces, Frank goes to do what he does best. So yeah, it was cool within the context of the story since I doubt anyone expected him to show up.

Skrulls are so 2009!
Perhaps the ryv zone will die out in the future and the 616 Peter will end up with the ryv daughter of peter and mj.
I doubt Marvel will leave a kid with him.

I saw no bodies. Therefore no one is dead.

Trying to guess ahead to Marvel Movie Villains is hard. We've got Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Captain Marvel, and who knows what could show up in Infinity Wars and Inhumans. (Never mind Agents of SHIELD getting renewed for season 3, and their need for antagonists.)
Basically, the Skrulls will come around again. :p
(IIRC, Fox and Marvel share Skrull film rights.)
