It's not bad in the Hellblazer books...it kind of matches the mood. :p I usually prefer other paper, though.
I concur. Its kind of like seeing some movies in black and white, but there's a cheap black and white filter and then there's a carefully detailed, high quality black and white.

I read the first paperback of Swamp Thing by Alan Moore. I loved it. I haven't bought any more. For the price and cheap paper, I will wait for a better version with better paper. Its the worst paper of anything I've bought in any sort of collected edition. I'm supporting the cause by ordering the Swamp Thing omnibus. Hopefully Alan Moores is next.

Oddly enough I love how the Swamp Thing trades paper looks, like mooch said, it matches the mood of the stories. I also have one hardcover of Moore's Swamp Thing from a spanish editorial that has the omnibus level paper, it doesn't fit that well for me. Too clean and bright but that is only my perspective on it.
-
Good point. I might not like what I see if they used paper that is too glossy for the material which I agree might not match up well.

Yes. Completely agree.

I took all the trades and custom bound them together. I added DC Pres #85 "The Jungle Line" (from another trade) about Swampy/Superman by Moore & Veitch because I absolutely feel it should be considered part of the run. Despite Vertigo not existing during the run, DC apparently thought no DC Pres issue could never retroactively be considered Vertigo.

This september to october I will collect the rest of Moore's Swamp Thing and go on a Vertigo binge.

I agree with this as well.

So I finally got in omnibus format the JSA vol 1 and 2, finally got them...I was once someone who didn't give a damn about minor details but for the first time there is one little detail that bothers me just a bit. Vol 1 has the new DC logo while Vol 2 has the old one! Whyyy?! Oh well I just have to get over it lol. Both are in great condition anyway, ready to be read. Ignoring the logo nonsense, I am very very happy. I will order Vol 3 as soon as I finish reading Vol 1, it would be funny if Vol 3 has the new logo and Vol 2 would have to be the black sheep of the family.

There's only one way to get Vol 2 with the new logo; buy all the remaining copies of the current print of Vol 2 so DC will reprint it with the new logo. Then buy that. Simples :D

Be happy, though! The first printing of the JSA Vol 1 had a pretty tight binding. So you got one with a good binding on it.

For trades, or even standard sized HC, sure.
But if they tried to sell me a deluxe or omnibus with newsprint.....I would not be happy. There is an expectation from me that if I'm buying the high end version of something, I expect high end production - even if it might be brighter or cleaner than it was

Bear in mind DC sells books, not luxury wares. Artistic intent is, however faintly, in their DNA. Some books look good on glossy paper, others thrive on newsprint.

When I'm paying that much for a book though...I expect the quality in everything to be top notch. Compared to say a $16.99 book.

Anybody who has the first printing of the New Teen Titans Omnibus getting the New printing this week?
