Hey guys,
I have never read any Green Lantern before and am mighty tempted to purchase the Geoff Johns GL Omnibus Volume 1 together with Absolute Batman Incorporated. I watched some videos onlines and the book is beautiful but it looks like the binding/construction leaves a bit to be desired.
For anyone that purchased it here, how is that monster holding up? I personally treated these books (like the Sin City hugh omnibus) really carefully and never lay them open completely flat to put less stress on the binding. I also wouldn't store this thing vertically as it has a huge page block so it would be stored horizontally. Looks like the perfect omnibus to get into Green Lantern...

I just started the Orion Omnibus and Simonson's work is terrific. There are huge gorgeous pages that are majestic and full of movement. I am trying to read the stories as they were published, lead story with Tales of the New Gods as back ups, and there is no excuse for them being out of order. The back ups add so much, and the story being told is so enhanced by the pieces placed in order. Did the people who put the book order together never read the stories?

Yeah, I've wondered that myself. The backups for the Orion series were essential for the lead story, and they should have been published in tandem with them. I'm guessing that because there was a significant number of other backups and short stories that Walt did over the years, they just decided to lump them together at the end. Bad move, but overall, the omnibus is definitely worth it.

The art alone is worth the price, the story gets moving fairly quickly and Walt seems to step into the craziness of that world with ease. I re read his Thor run awhile back and especially, when he does the art, it's terrific. I am finding this more exciting right now and the visuals are so out there. Really great eye candy front to back. I get that they had a surplus, but even in back, the Tales of the New Gods are in an odd order. I think its worth it, but if some nice deluxe editions come out?

I'm almost half-way through it now, and I've got no complaints on the binding so far. All good. And the issues are great fun if you haven't read them. Very exciting.

Hey guys,
Has anyone picked up the 'Batman: Gothic Deluxe' yet. If so, could you stick some pics and your thoughts about the quality up ?
Many thanks

Amazon have put up a cover for the World's Finest Golden Age Omnibus:

I'm still in two minds as to whether to purchase this. I have the Superman Golden Age Omnibus and have preordered the Batman Golden Age Omnibus, but not sure on this one.

Absolute Y: The Last Man Vol. 2 cover also up on amazon:

I'll try and remember to do it when I get home.

Awesome thanks! Excited to pick this up. I love how it includes a nice image on the front and back of the hardcover board. Its unfortunate that so many of the DC hardcovers and omnibuses just include that stock black cover (like the Simonson Orion omnibus, Tales of the batman boards, etc...)

As we now have Y Absolutes being released, I wonder if we will get an Ex Machina Absolute? The artwork alone by the great Tony Harris is worthy of being supersized, far more than, in my humble opinion, the very ordinary art in Y, and I think the Machina has the better story, the same goes for 100 bullets (well at least the art, I found the story a bit meh)

Agreed, but I suspect we're in the minority. I'd pick up an Ex Machina Absolute and I've read that series a bunch. I'm not so interested in Y Last Man, which I read once and liked, but probably won't revisit.

Hell, I'd settle for a re-print of the deluxe sized Ex Machina.

Probably been asked before, but, if you could get DC to raid the archives and release any 5 non ongoing series in absolute format, what would you choose?
I'd go for...
1. The Shadow (1987 series by Helfer/Baker/Sienkiewicz)
2. Wildc.a.t.s by Casey
3. Moore's Swamp Thing
4. Year One/Killing Joke/The Cult (3 in 1, all too short for their own Absolute)
5. Jonah Hex by Lansdale

DC can't reprint that (or any other) Shadow series unless they get the rights back. The rights are currently with Dynamite, who reprinted the Helfer/Sienkiewicz/Baker series over the past two years as a series of trades called The Shadow: Master Series. They're very nice as far as tpbs, but definitely not in the Absolute class.
