I think "mapping a collection" is kind of or exactly what krisis does with his blog.
Tracks the movement of a character from 1st appearance to a mini or ongoing then where they guest star etc etc.
I could be totally wrong of course.
Krisis guides are absolutely amazing for marvel fans, he does a phenomenal job. I've been tempted lately to start a DC equivalent up but the sheer amount of work to get a partway comprehensive guide for someone like superman is mind boggling, he's been in continuous print for 75 years leading as many as 4 titles a month, its an incredibly daunting task.

From what I've seen he maps out more collected editions that have been/will be released for characters/teams for reading out, not necessarily single issues or future collections.
Although I'm sure he know reading/chronological order of single for many series or characters as well.
But I was talking/joking more about whoever works for DC and decides the what collections are released when and what they contain and whatnot

There's also plenty of folks who bind books and post maps, and the binding MMW board. I think DC might be doing a bit more research these days thankfully, and utilizing some of these resources. I always wondered how they could put out collections with glaring omissions when there's a zillion websites that can be found with the information they'd need. They could also ask the creators (novel idea, I know!) if they had a preferred reading order.
But yeah, as someone who binds a ton of books, researching reading orders and whatnot, I too thought it'd be fun to basically do that job for DC!

I remember back when the first Johns' JSA omnibus was solicited and it didn't have the first five or so issues because he didn't write them. Someone on Twitter reached out to Didio about it and even he was a little flabbergasted (and unaware).
He seemed to suggest that he would fix it and thankfully those issues were added.
The DC collections department - if there is such a thing - is so bush league it's ridiculous.

I find all this mapping conversation interesting. Yes, we need a DC equivalent to map out all the characters stories.
Does anyone here have links (for DC) to share of individuals that have tried for certain characters?
It would be cool to trace every comic and book Batman, Nightwing, Suoerman, etc etc.
DC hire me as an assistant!

I'm sure there are guides for individual characters. I remember Supergirl havingn a couple. I suppose if you got a team of about 30-50 people and divided up the books, it would be pretty simple+ pretty minimal work to figure out. Wikipedia has a massive amount of issues featuring a character. So a lot of work has been put out there already.

I agree, a lot of the wikia sites have solid info on appearances and stuff. Might take some digging around to find what you want though. Their navigation can be...not the best sometimes, especially on mobile

MOBILE! The bane of my life is when the page loads, and I get an advertisement from Dove reminding me how amazing their soap is. I just want to see what issues of Swamp Thing im missing! Either way, if DC can easily access a lot of this information, that doesn't requite a lot of work in their part, their collections should be much better.

The main sites be awful with this since the update. I can't even read half the articles.

It is brutal. I used to be able to spend hours on those wiki sights doing research, and now like you said, it takes way too long just find out something

I remember that too. So glad it got fixed.
Also really glad we're getting a JSA Golden Age Deluxe. I know the two aren't technically related, but I sort view it as a precursor to Robinson's start on JSA

Checked out more work by Dick Grayson (Age Twelve!) (That joke won't ever get old!) Very impressive. Even more so impressive to see Walt Flanagin use his service. I'm a big fan of them

TESD ant? Grayson does a great job with helping map and any other binding questions or needs very helpful.

Thanks guys! And yep, I've done a number of binds for Walt. He had me make some hardcovers of the stories he did with Bryan Johnson, a huge Grimjack set, and more. Super nice guy too.
Dredd - you've been lucky you've been binding books I know pretty well; I don't profess to be able to be an expert on any and every character when it comes to mapping, but I do what I can :)
And to bring it back to collections, I'm excited to check out The Golden Age deluxe as well. I've always heard great things about the story but never read it, so that deluxe is calling my name.

I love TESD with my whole being. Listen everyday, and I cycle through the catalog constantly.
Best I can give Grayson besides ASBAR quotes would be a thumbs up! If I ever hunt down the entire Amethyst runs, I'll be sure to contact you so you can have them bound for me.
