Honestly, I think it will happen in the next 6-9 months.
I mean, we've just had the Bronze Age Omnibus (including the, let's face it, not very good Martin Pasko run).
I think the next step is clearly an Alan Moore Swamp Thing Omnibus (but it won't say that because...)
Anybody who has those original issues knows that the newsprint actually augments the artwork, the colouring is both delicate and diffuse and it somehow absorbs into the paper itself and produces something of subtlety and wonder.
The omnibus, while oversized, will not reproduce this effect.
The hardcovers already released do have a newsprint type paper and do reproduce that effect to a degree.
But hey, I will get the omnibus (and double dip), because it's just one of the best comic runs ever.
I find it amusing the amount of times I see people keep saying they prefer old newsprint type paper over a newer larger better quality paper for Swamp Thing. Done right, with good ink and paper stock you will get a lot better light/dark contrast which would be ideal for Swamp Thing. I can't recall any other book discussed where people prefer the newsprint paper. To me, its like preferring a cassette tape over CD/high quality digital because thats how I first heard an album and the sound is ingrained in my mind that way.

Swamp Thing by Alan Moore is one of the collections by DC Comics that are higher in my wish list.
If a Absolute or Omnibus was anounced i would wait for it,but because i dont see any news about that i will just order the TPB´s of Swamp Thing by Alan Moore as soon as i can.

Re: Swamp Thing - While I'm not a fan of super glossy paper stock, I don't think sticking to newsprint is the answer either.
There's no reason they can't use something that falls in between; see the higher quality matte paper we've gotten on recent Doom Patrol and Lucifer reprints.

Hmmm. I stand by my original post :)

This was just an observation of multiple posts I have seen. Newsprint Swamp Thing has its fans for sure! Something I have not seen in any other series.

Lucifer is another series i would love to see get the absolute treatment...... but i'm not holding my breath.

No kidding. And this is a series that would probably get discontinued by DC after 1 or 2 OHCs.

I mean, we've basically already seen what Moore's Swamp Thing would like like on DC's satin-finish omnibus paper, because Stephen Bissette did the last few issues on the Bronze Age Swamp Thing Omnibus. And honestly, to me, it looks incredible. I'd love to see Moore's whole run like this.

In Serbian edition of Moore's ST, we used a very high-quality paper (much better quality than any paper used in DC\Marvel omnis\deluxes), and I still prefer newspaper. It just adds another level of murkiness that goes so well with the visuals and overall atmosphere of the comic. Personally, I'd love to see oversized ST in black and white. One can dream :)

I remember few years ago when those Lucifer collections we're first solicited as hardcovers I was so hyped. When release day came and they were actually paperbacks, I passed until this year when I bought them all on clearance.
I'd still buy them in an OHC

Yes this is an amazingly creative series. Carey knocked it out of the park on this one. His Hellblazer was really good as well.

Anybody encounter this: Fourth World Problems – Omnibus Has A Major Printing Error?

Regarding Moore's Swamp Thing...count me as another who would prefer it in Absolutes over an omnibus. Use matte paper and we have a winner. Nearly all of Moore's other material in in Absolute so why not continue the trend.

I just checked mine and can confirm the printing error.

This is now officially out of control and no it's not hyperbole to call 2 errors of this magnitude "out of control".
Where is the quality control? Who is proofing these books?
I'm reminded of that scene in the movie Elf where the Publishing Editor confronts Walter about signing off on blank pages that should've been 2 pages of story for the book.
Who is signing off on this?!?!
