Good one mate! This brought a smile to my face ;)
I hope they're going to let you keep that sewing book, for your wife's sake at least :)
They (Speedyhen) sent me an email saying I could keep the book and they sent out a copy of the Absolute Batman and Super vol 2 by first class delivery. The have really good customer support as well as some of the best prices.
The wife would be happy if this hadn't drawn her attention to the massive and growing collection of books on my desk as I ran out of shelf space months ago.

Haha, a similar situation happened to me before as well! Even though I actually purchased a new shelf not too long ago, it's already been filled and stacks are appearing on the floor next to the shelf.

I wouldn't call it mouse trap at all. Like some of the other DC omnibuses, it is tight when you first take it out of the wrapper, but the binding is decent and it lays reasonably flat after a little prodding.

Ah, I see. What did you think of the overall content of the book? How's the art and the story?
-
I wouldn't mind that, but I'd prefer Joe Casey's run to get the hardcover/deluxe etc treatment...especially vol. 2 which to me is hand-down better than the more praised 3.0
Man, you're not kidding. I'd love a Moore collection, which would fit in nice as a prelude to Sleeper. But the direction (at the time) of Casey's run was so unexpected and awesome! Such an underrated classic.

Can someone who knows more about what is going on with Batman sort some of these trade solicits our for me. I'm seeing 3 books:
Batman Vol. 5: Zero Year-Dark City - seems straight forward
Batman: Eternal Vol. 1 - Collects issues 1-20? What is Batman Eternal and how much does it play into what Snyder is doing on his title
DC Comics: Zero Year (The New 52) (Batman: the New 52) - I don't even know what this is....
They all list Snyder as the author.

A lot of comics had a special zero year issue like Green arrow, like with the Court of owls. All these are collected in the last one you mentioned. Batman Eternal is a weekly serie, I don't think it ties in a lot with Snyder's run but it's pretty good so far
Ah, I see. What did you think of the overall content of the book? How's the art and the story?
to quote myself from a few pages back:
I wasn't crazy about the art in the first story by Robinson, but it gets better and better later. Same with the story. It's a bit of a typicall superhero action book but one of the bests from DC. I've read it 1,5 years ago in trades, and first I thought it's OK, I like the characters and the stories are good enough, but after the first 2-3 trades I just couldn't put it down.
If you liked for example: Johns' Flash you would like JSA too.
Welllll, according to the new solicits, some of the events in Eternal do affect the Batman title now that Zero Year is over!

Yeah, I have exactly the same problem. My shelves are full, and I have about 10 Omnibuses/OHCs that are still in their packaging on the floor in a room specially designated as a library.
My wife generally asks me every time a new one appears if I’m going to be selling it at some point. Often the answer is no, but I sometimes add that maybe......just maybe....... ;)
With regards to Speedyhen, I ordered a book through flubit.co.uk and they had it sent to me from Speedyhen. It took only 2 days to arrive from the order date. Now that is one “speedy hen”

I was thinking about purchasing Punk Rock Jesus, but noticed its in a Nov. Solicitation as a deluxe edition. The Deluxe edition will contain a hundred more pages, but the story itself will be black and white. I dig the original story, I love Sean Murphy's artwork, but paying double for a hardcover and a few more pages is hard to reconcile. Does anyone know the content of those 100 pages?

From what I recall Sean Murphy did some 10-15 additional story pages, so those will be added. And furthermore the extra's that are described in the solicitation.

Not being rude when I ask, but where is the bonus material described in the solicitation? The information I read just says new 100 pages of bonus material and cover art.
From Newsarama.com
Sean Murphy’s acclaimed 6-issue miniseries about reality TV show starring a clone of Jesus Christ is now collected in a Deluxe Edition hardcover, with over 100 pages of new, bonus material and new cover art!
J2 causes both outrage and adulation. Religious zealots either love or hate the show, angry politicians worry about its influence on the nation, and members of the scientific community fear the implications of cloning a human being at all, let alone the Son of God

So the DC comics Zero Year is just an assortment of Zero Year issues from different titles?
I thought the whole point of the New 52 was to simplify things but I'm always confused about what timeline I'm reading. Some seem like they take place at the beginning of some heroes careers and others take place 5 years after that and now we're going back to the Zero year (whatever that means) and now I hear we're going 5 more years into the future? Or five years from zero year?

Batman is Dc's main title. So almost every time there's a big story Dc milks it by tieing in other dc titles and collect them in trade later. Like Night of Owls, Death of the family and now Zero year

??? = Grant Morrisons run on Action Comics (Havn't read it don't know if they put it in a time frame)
Zero Year = Year of Batmans first appearance in Gotham,
0 Issues = Year of whatever heroes first appearance
Year Zero (not an official name) = Founding of the justice league
Launch of the Nu52 = 5 Years since the founding of the Nu52 Justice League
Us now = Were 2-3 years on since the launch of the justice league (time passing is difficult in comics, apparantly Forever Evil takes place over the course of 2 or 3 days )
Five Years Later = Roughly 12 Years after founding of the justice league (5 + 2/3 + 5)
Futures End = Starts Close to forty years after the justice league was founded (Thirty something years the future officially in the FCB Day tie in + (5 + 2) to account for the time lag since the founding of the justice league) then Batman Beyond time travels to the Five Years Later time frame which is (as previously mentioned) roughly 12 Years since the justice league formed.
I can understand why people can get confused, DC's naming conventions suck. But its a pet peeve of minewhen people go on about "Hero X's (usually Batman) only been around for 5 years how can they possibly have done X and Y and Z (and had a dozen teenage sidekicks)" when its only the Justice League that has existed officially for roughly 5 years in the Nu52. Its never been stated how long the various hero's have been in action prior just that their all a bit Fresh faced/Green/Wet around the ears/*insert rookie expression*.

Hmmm I though I read more. Well in that case the info about the 10-15 story pages is pretty old news and these pages have also been included in the French edition. As for the rest.... Speculating here then, but probably the usual formula, so sketch pages, lay outs, character studies, script, covers, alternate covers etc. But my guess would be as good as yours...
Oh and you might ask Sean Murphy on twitter, perhaps he can tell you more?

I love the content, but man the JSA Omnibus is disappointing. Plain black cover, really wavy paper, and major gutter loss.
I love the spine design, though. It's going to look great when I get it up on the shelf.

Have updated the OP with the most recent solicits, some changes from the already announced books:
Zero Year HC is now $5 more and has an extra 48 pages.
Batman v5 HC has another issue added (33) and completes the Zero Year arc
GL HC collects an extra issue(GL 34) and 3 GLC issues(31-33), but drops the Red Lanterns issue(28)
Harley Quinn HC collects two extra issues (7-8)
Fables Deluxe v9 has one more issue(82)
Punk Rock Jesus Deluxe was 240 pages for $30 now 360 pages for $40

Looking at the first page, I see that there's now a second printing of Animal Man. Is there a way to tell which printings? Same question for the Sandman Omnibus Vol 1. Thanks in advance!

I haven't found much of any gutter loss. While the front and back cover are tight, the actual pages themselves aren't, and lay relatively flat.

First time posting in the DC section so it might be you guys over here have already adressed the points I am going to adress in this post.
My first contact with comics was during the time of the Jones / Moench Batman comics and events like Contagion, Legacy, Cataclysm in German Editions (collected 3 single issue in one issue per Month). I did not even realized that some of these had been collected in the Moench / Jones Batman HC vol. 1 and I was very happy to see this happen. So here are my remarks:
I did not found a vol. 2 solicited in the next future, any ideas if there will be a vol. 2?
What the heck is going on with those events I mentioned? They were (as far as I know) only collected in Trades so many years OOP that it seems unbelievable. And then to top this they add ONE issue of these in the aformentioned Jones / Moench HC. Come one ONE ISSUE with no surrundings in the middle of the story line?? Am I just a spoiled Marvel guy or is this just normal DC policy?
What are your experiences with these older runs getting collected? Any (predictable) chances for the future?
I know that there has been some closed gaps during the last years (three huge volumes of Knightfall, No Man's Land saga, etc.) but I do not get it. So please help me out here to broaden my perspective.
-
They won't be getting me to buy volume 2 unless it comes down in price to the sub $60 they had vol 1 for. Especially with the reports of the poor build.
I preordered Vol. 2 at $89. I'll wait and see how Vol. 1 (which is on its way to me) starts selling for on the amazon.co.uk marketplace and probably based on that will decide whether to cancel Vol. 2 or not and consequently wait for a decent deal to appear. This is what I did with UXM Omni Vol. 2 and it paid off.
-
This is what I did with UXM Omni Vol. 2 and it paid off.
Thanks to Raffi I've learned to follow the marketplace much more closely, instead of just blindly putting in a SpeedyHen order and forgetting about it. All the books I wanted used to be in my head at one time, now I have a 160 strong wish list, with an additional 30 on a 'pre-order' list.
My Deadpool Omni from books-any arrived the other day, it actually had a real box, bubble wrap and air bubbles!, first time I've seen packing materials from a marketplace seller I was thinking there must be a worldwide shortage or something. Of course it was still damaged, not on the spine this time so that's an improvement. I tend to gravitate more to trades at the moment because I get plenty of mint trades even with rubbish packaging but very, very few (like 10%) of my Omnibus arrive without a dent somewhere.
Back on topic my next challenge is to try and track down the corrected Batman Murderer trade, first I have to work out whether it even exists then somehow find a UK seller that has the new edition not the botched first attempt.
-
If anyone's interested in pictures of the Kirby New Gods AE, I posted some in the General Thread:

it exists, for example: on tfaw it is listed as "corrected edition" or something similar. Bookdepository should send new copies out but I've got nothing so far (but that could be because I already got a refund, before they announced the corrected versions).

Got my JSA omnibus yesterday. I haven't had a chance to dig into it fully, but my initial thoughts are that I'm glad to have it, especially at the Amazon price, but the exact contents and order still puzzle me.
On the plus side, I'm really glad they included the 10-page Secret Origins of Super-Villains 80-Page Giant #1 Icicle/Johnny Sorrow story. It was one of the few stories from that time I hadn't read, not having been included in any of the trades, and it could easily have been dropped. Kudos to whomever decided to include that.
On the other hand, it also highlights the notable absence of another 10-pager, "The Ropes" from All-Star Comics 80-Page Giant #1, featuring Jack Knight, Wildcat, and Stargirl, which would take place sometime between issues 4 (end of the opening storyline) and 6; and more importantly, JSA annual #1, which should slot in between issues 15 (conclusion of "The Hunt for Extant") and 16 (first part of "Injustice Be Done"), and JSA Secret Files #2, which takes place in between issue 25 (conclusion of "Return of Hawkman") and the JSA: Our Worlds at War one-shot (both collected in this omnibus).
The absence of "The Ropes," while slightly irksome, is at least understandable -- it's ultimately just a short character piece, and Goyer and Robinson wrote it rather than Geoff Johns, presumably explaining its absence here. But the annual introduces the character of Nemesis who would return a couple of times, explains what Geomancer was doing in issue 5, and foreshadows that the Ultra-Humanite is back and up to no good. At least part of it was written by Johns too, so I can't think of any reason for it not to be included. It does, however, explain the exclusion of Secret Files #2, since that issue follows up on the Nemesis vs. the Council storyline from the annual... wouldn't make much sense to include it if you're leaving out the first part of the story. Unfortunately it means we miss out on the other stuff from the Secret Files, like Courtney's first use of the gravity rod, and the setting up of the next few storylines (Roulette, Solomon Grundy, the Ultra-Humanite). None of it "necessary" stuff, but noticeable in its absence.
Which, if all those issues were left out for space considerations, I get it -- this thing is massive, no question -- but then why not break the series up into three more manageable omnibuses priced at $100 each, instead of two ginormous ones for $125? If Johns' name is on them, they'll sell, and I can't imagine DC would want to turn down the extra money. The last part of this omnibus (the JLA/JSA: Virtue and Vice OGN, the JLA/JSA Secret Files & Origins that leads into it, and the All-Stars miniseries) is already out of order, taking place after the "Fair Play", "Stealing Thunder", and "Savage Times" arcs that will be included in the volume 2 omnibus. Why not drop those parts from the first omnibus, collect them in the second, and include the annual and the second Secret Files (and ideally "The Ropes" too, for completion's sake) in this volume?
I'm still glad to have the issues collected in omnibus format, but it's just frustrating when it feels like these are tons of little oversights and errors that could've been corrected pretty easily. There's no real reason to include the All-Stars mini and the JLA/JSA OGN out of chronological order in this volume, at least none that I can think of. Anybody have any theories?
-
I haven't found much of any gutter loss. While the front and back cover are tight, the actual pages themselves aren't, and lay relatively flat.
I agree 100%. After 100 pages or so, everything lays flat with very little gutter loss. Very similar to my Infinite Crisis Omnibus. Actually I'll take the slightly tighter binding over the wafer thin paper Marvel has been using lately...
I think the term "bear trap" is used pretty loosely. New Teen Titans volume 1 is a bear trap. JSA volume 1 is not. It's fine. I don't think anyone will be disappointed.

Amazon is showing a 304 page count and a solicitation for issues 1-10 for All Star Batman & Robin. Has this been made official and I missed it previously?
