On my trip to Toronto last month I walked into a comic book store there called The Beguiling. Pretty cool store, would definitely recommend it. I managed to find Absolute Promethea vol. 1 and Ex Machina vol. 4 there for cover price. Those two are hard to find and way overpriced on amazon and ebay.

Try "any way" ;-)

Can anyone comment on the quality of the camelot 3000 deluxe?

I've been spending time with the JSA omnibus and I can't say I'm impressed.
While the spine is very tight, there isn't too much gutter loss. The paper, however, is lousy. I'd read about Marvel's wavey paper and had thought DC immune to it. How wrong I was ! You could go surfing on my copy.
The content itself also seems very lackluster to me. Geoff Johns doing Morrison's JLA ten years later is about as dull as it sounds. Wish they'd put out a big All-star Squadron / Infinity Inc instead.
And putting out such a big book without a single extra, or even a simple intro, seems contrary to the thing's very purpose.
All in all, yet another DC hack-job. I for one won't be sticking around for volume 2. Hope they'll get their act together for the Doom Patrol omnibus, but strongly doubt they will.

Buck up, pal! Wasn't too long ago DC's idea of an Omni was the original Death and Return of Superman Omni (with the printed-on "sticker" advertising for the direct-to-DVD animated film to boot). Who'd a thought at that time we'd get a B-team classic series collected in anything other than DC's old toilet-paper-infused trades? While no one here will argue that DC's omnis hold a candle to Marvel's (though Sleeper is pretty darn close), all isn't lost. We're getting great material collected in our favorite format (most of us anyways). Rejoice and be glad!

I remember that a long time ago some DC higher-up, DiDio maybe, adressed some Omnibus related questions and complaints. I think it was through social media and after that YouTube video comparing DC and Marvel's bindings. My point is, we should all spam DC telling them to print their Omnis in the same place they printed Sleeper and Golden Age Superman (Canada if I'm not mistaken).

That is disappointing to hear, after Sleeper I had hoped they were heading in the right direction.

There was an article on BleedingCool about it that probably swayed him, perhaps someone who owns JSA can do another comparison video.

here's a discussion about the reproduction values of the art: link
not having seen any of the original art, i certainly didn't think it was an issue at all. i remember someone in a previous version of this thread mentioned it, and i found that searching around.

Oh yes. And they were still releasing those toilet paper trades 2012 with that Knightfall reprint. What a travesty. No omnibus, and they around the same time release Knightfall trades (on toilet paper) and the No Man's Land saga on better paper.

I think the Morrison omnis generally represent a better quality (at least they have printed covers not the "baneofmyexistence" black cardboard).
About the content: I love the team and I read these stories before Morrison's JLA, so I'm curious how it holds up.
That is disappointing to hear, after Sleeper I had hoped they were heading in the right direction.
Have you compared Sandman vol 1 and 2? They couldn't even maintain the same quality within one series!

but those trades are not omnibuses, those came out because of the TDKR movie and they are 500-600 pages of material for $25-30? Of course an omnibus would be better but for the non collectors and general readers these cheap but chunky trades are perfect and DC makes more money from them.
I love omnibuses but it's a perfectly logical decision to release these famous storylines in the most accesible format so more people could buy them (people who just wants to read and don't care about collecting).

Looks like amazon has updated the cover on Doom Patrol.

Got a new copy of The Authority HC Volume 1! Found it at Chapters in Winnipeg. Aww yeah

Do we think that the new Superman vs Batman movie will finally get us a Deluxe Dark Knight Returns? I hope so because I don't really want to pay Absolute prices when it includes Strikes Again, which I really don't feel the need to own.

I was thinking the same. The new movie is heavily inspired by DKR, so it makes sense (just like the new Marvel's Days of Future Past Deluxe Edition).

well, Supes vs Batsy debuts in 2016 and that will be the 30th aniversary of TDKR so I think there is a very big chance for a deluxe edition.
