Higgins said in an interview they're allowed to use up to Power Rangers in Space.. [spoil]so that's all Turbo, Zeo, and Mighty Morphin' stuff. [/spoil] Which is awesome.

I wonder if this series is going to follow it's own story or tie-in/follow what the shows previously died but with a modern twist to them. So far it has a lot of familiar elements but could we see any major shake-ups?

I feel like the best way to do it, and the way it is being done, is it's Higgins take and an original story. Much like the TMNT book is its own story.

The way things are right now, they could bring in the Power Chamber early. That was originally only used in Zeo and Turbo, though I think it's the same room from White Light where Tommy got his new powers. The replacement rangers don't need to happen at all. I certainly don't expect a peace conference, which isn't very realistic for teens, to be the reason for departures if they do eventually bring in the new teens. The idea is to use familiar elements, but tell their own story and lose the camp and reliance on formula (notice how Bulk and Skull are largely relegated to the backup story, only getting decent page time in the main story twice so far - they've also avoided monster sent down, grows, zords brought in, monster destroyed, as was always the way the TV show worked, going for serialisation instead and doing stuff the Zyuranger footage wouldn't allow).

The whole Zordon era, in other words.
If they do get to Space, I want the comic to really take advantage of the idea that all the villains are supposed to be working together in the name of conquest for Dark Specter, something that the show teased at the start of the season (and before that in Turbo) but never used again until the finale. One issue could have the Rangers dealing with Lord Zedd picking on a helpless planet, the next dealing with Master Vile attacking the Alien Rangers on Aquitar as payback for them humiliating him, and so on.

Basically, which is fine by me because that's what I watched as a kid.

If the Pink! miniseries is in the same canon as the regular series, it seemed to be that Jason, Trini, and Zack all left the Rangers and were replaced. I don't think it was gone in too much but it seemed to be under the same circumstances. I'm kinda hoping they don't bring in the peace conference and all that for a good long while or at least keep the original squad all involved for a good long while. I really liked Adam after I got used to the switch but I still missed the original three.

Now that would make some sense given that the ORIGINAL Power Rangers story ended with Power Rangers In Space.

Actually that would be interesting to see as we never did see the full expanded fight of the alliance of Evil outside of the final episodes of Power Rangers In Space.
Just read issue #12 for myself. Man, what a great issue. What a great comic. Well done, Higgins.
It was made even better this week by Lootcrate having a Megazord t-shirt and badge :D
The Pink! miniseries takes place in the TV canon not the BOOM Studios Canon.......I did enjoy the Pink! Miniseries very much
iSince we know that the Space Rangers were active during the MMPR-Turbo era, it would be great if we got a In Space spin off.

Space was one of the best PR seasons ever, great cast, music, team-up episode, finale, etc. So much awesome, I would love to see them at some point but I want the current series to focus on the Mighty Morphin team.
I would LOVE to have follow-ups on the Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue, and RPM Rangers, too!
I would LOVE to have follow-ups on the Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue, and RPM Rangers, too!
While I would love most of those I am not sure the market is big enough for that many different series. MMPR is still even after 20 years the most iconic team so it makes sense to have them first.
While its not the one I most want to see I think RPM would likely be the easiest to do at some point because its a different reality already and the whole setting has a lot of potential. There is a lot of things you could do with a post robot apocalypse setting in a comic that unlike TV is not limited by budget or has the same restrictions often associated with a Power Ranger season.
I would not mind a Megaforce title which was based off James Bates' original ideas before the producer tampered with his vision and drove him off
Well there goes my hopes of dairanger making an apperance...

I wouldn't mind an offshoot where super megaforce actually touched upon the pirate theme they had.
Loved the movie, and the follow-up graphic novel has posted a preview:

Barring some differences in time IE the technology of the present versus the 90's the comics in modernizing it a bit, the comic and TV continuity are otherwise treated as the same.
And yeah. I have to admit. I'm looking forward to this GN spinning out of the film.
I haven't seen the movie yet and I have the GN on pre-order, so I think that I need to break this awkwardness I feel about going to the cinema alone :P

This has been a great month for Power Rangers. The movie was awesome, a ton of fun with some pretty good acting and effects. The Power Ranger Twitch marathon was awesome watching it with a bunch of fans and making jokes about the series was so much fun. The sequel comic was also a fun read, the future of Power Rangers is bright.
The sequel comic was a nice continuation of the movie universe, I really hope that they do more of these and that the events in the comics have some weight in the future sequels. It felt like a long episode featuring the new cast and set up where they are after the events of the movie. Lots of great character moments and a nice explanation for puddies still running around. I really like the new rangers dynamic, my only issues are Zack not being really into music like his past incarnation and I really wish they would go ahead and go through with the Kimberly/Jason relationship. They are probably going to go through with it in the sequel and have a love triangle with Tommy. (which I really don't want)

I went by myself for the first time to see this movie and it was a great experience It's a fun movie through and through and has a new and interesting team dynamic while still having original series elements. We have the movie team and the modern comic series, both are doing things similar and different than what came before but are still being faithful to the original. I love what is being done with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers right now.
Boom comics MMPR is the only comic i currently buy in floppy form and have a subscription for . I will try to write down my thoughts on the latest issues when i pick up backlog next week .
I see others enjoyed the MMPR reboot film but i personally found it worse then expected , the characterisation felt off (Jason is a true martial artist and leader not some idiot who get's in car crashes and steals animals wtf?) . I thought Billy's portrayal was the best but no one else felt like Power Rangers to me . That being said Rita was good and far more violent and murderous then she was in the original series which was refreshing and the whole Zordon being a bit of jerk was a decent little change to the mythos i think . I just think my good Friend Jordan (He used to play football at MK dons when i worked there as security) would have done a better job then his wife Naomi Scott did as Kimberely ..the whole goldar being made out of actual Gold was ... ok i guess ?
The final half an hour was average including the Megazord fight (German suplex anyone?) and honestly i've been a life long Comics and Power rangers fan and compared to Marvel ..heck even compared to DC's movies ..the MMPR reboot came off as lazy and boring .
The cameos of the original Pink and Green Rangers JDF and Amy J J got a pop out of me though.
I am 27 so i understand i am not the target demographic but when me and my friend saw the movie a few weeks ago it was a late night showing and the audience was 99% males my age or older i'd gather so i think my opinion is valid .
On the bright side i am loving The Boom series and will write an indepth articale / review on my personal highlights from the run ..most likely next week .
Kindest Regards ,
BritishMixedProtein .

lol, yeah give me a minute to find it.
Okay so not Higgins, but the editors said it:
The "Mighty Morphin" canon extends from Season 1 up through "In Space." That's our sandbox. It's all fair game. There is still so much more that happens to these characters and this world—from new Zords to new Rangers—that we want to explore, but we want to make sure it feels earned and that we've exhausted all we can with the story we're currently telling. Personally, I love the mythology that comes with Zeo. It really cracks open the world and introduces a lot of new and interesting elements to the series, like the new Power Chamber and The Machine Empire, one of the more formidable foes for the Rangers. Also, who wouldn't want to see Hendry draw the Gold Zeo Ranger?

Thanks. It seems quite a few people missed that article for some reason.
It's actually a great interview haha
So much potential, I wish these issues were coming out faster.
I'm surprised no one has been talking about the new Power Ranger series we will be getting.
Oh yeah, July we'll see another PR book 'Go Go Power Rangers about the Rangers 1st year or so as Rangers, in between episodes, stuff like that. I'm looking forward to it.

I asked my LCS to add it to my pull list this week. I do like the idea of a "Year One" type book.
Kinda weird that they changed Trini's look for it though. The other four look similar to how they look in the main comic and the TV show.
JL/PR 4 and 5 have been postponed. Now out on May 17 and 31.

Damn, I hate the extra wait time.
I love the little cameo of the Phantom Ranger in the Lord Drakkon timeline during the "last battle" before Earth fell in that universe.
I hope they get some mileage out of him eventually.
So i see Amazon has a solicit for MMPR: the First Year HC but no specifics on what issues. $75 is a bit pricey for the standard 2-3 trades. Any ideas on what might be included?

Probably issues 0-16 plus the annual. Well worth a hardcover edition of 18 issues of this beauty of a comic series.
