Clever way the writers thought of to bring back Heatwave.
Is 2147 significant in the DCU?
I liked Ray and Kendra's plot line, though I can't help but wonder where they got the money and how Ray was able to prove his qualifications.
It would've been pretty easy to fake whatever documents Ray and Kendra might've needed back in the '60s. Frank William Abagnale, Jr. was able to do it.
This was an amazing episode. It really showed just how far and wide the series can go.
And Snart's trick for freeing his hand blew my mind. Take that River Song!
Best episode in awhile. For a stretch, this show was at the back of the class with Arrow -- basically, I'd keep it on in the background while I did other things. I'm just ignoring all of the ridiculous time travel rules this show is creating for my sanity. I also wonder if we'll see Talia in the present at any point. One thing about these Berlanti shows is that the writers seldom drop easter eggs and leave them there.
[spoil]Li'l Talia looked about ten years old in 1960, which would make her 21 in 1971, which is about how old she was when she first showed up in DETECTIVE COMICS No. 411 (May '71) which went on sale March 30th, 1971![/spoil]
Does the spaceship retard the aging process? What if the trio were stranded for 10 years instead of two?
--- Jackson has to be pleased that Kendra is back, but unpleased that she has clearly chosen Ray..
Man this was a fantastic episode, Cold getting out of those cuffs was brutal. I loved the fight scene against Chronos, he didn't stand a chance.
Also I'm not sure if this has been posted or anything, Patrick J. What happened to Rory/Kronos ship in NB?
Interesting little conflict with Ray and Kendra in this episode, as we see them both acclimate and make lives for themselves together in the past, only to react very differently to being brought back into the fold of the Legends. Kendra's happy to get out of the 50's and back to the mission, as if nothing had happened, but Ray had actually gotten used to the past and the life they had made there. Which actually makes sense, given how, in-spite of the period he comes from and his status as a revolutionary scientist and billionaire, Ray sometimes feels like he's from an earlier era. Not in terms of his values, of course, but with his exuberance, idealism, and chivalrous attitude. So he would probably feel more at home in the past.
And the Arrowverse creators find another excuse to make Brandon Routh put on glasses.
I'm kind of surprised that the trio (Sara, Kendra, and Ray) apparently didn't bother trying to fight crime or be Superheroes back in the 50's while they were there. I guess they just didn't run the risk that acting out in the open like that could possibly drastically effect the timeline or draw Savage to them.
Holy crud, Heat Wave was Chronos!? I was definitely not expecting that. Though it would explain the "old friend" comment he made a while back, and it's certainly a neat and surprising twist .
So Snart didn't end up going through with killing Mick, as expected, but while Snart intended to go back for him as soon as the mission was over, by Mick's time years had past with him stuck in that forest which drove him crazy before the Time Masters found him. Then they took his anger and what little was left of his mind to turn him into their own personal enforcer, creating Chronos. It shows you how much of a number Snart leaving him behind, and what the Time Masters did to him, that Mick was willing to use his time traveling abilities to kill Lisa multiple times just to make Snart suffer. As bad as Mick was before, I don't think he was ever capable of that kind of cruelty. It'll be interesting to see what happens to him now that he's stuck aboard the Waverider and most of the team are committed towards saving and redeeming him, except for ironically Snart, who now see him as a lost cause.
It was nice seeing Matt Nable as Ra's again. For all the faults of Arrow season 3, his performance was still one of the highlights, and it was also nice seeing Ra's back to being a sage and wise figure again compared to the more rigid, cruel, and extremist villain he became by the end of the season to justify Ollie having to go against him.
Talia making an appearance in this universe certainly took me by surprise. I'm really curious to see know happened to her in this universe, and if Nyssa got to know her older sister at all? Though if Talia was still alive in the present, and with the League, I doubt Ra's would have placed as much hopes and importance on Nyssa as he did. Maybe part of the reason Ra's took on Nyssa's mother as a lover, beyond the affection he felt for her upon first meeting her, was to sire another heir or child after losing Talia?
How long has it been since Jax and Stein last fused into Firestorm? It feels like it's been a while.
Ray's constantly referencing the last time he took on the League and went to Nanda Parbat, and how bad that went for him, was pretty funny. Especially when he ended up getting locked in a dungeon again and had his heart-to-heart with Kendra with the team contributing :p.
Kinda ironic that Chronos, traditionally The Atom's Archenemy, ends up being the guy who Ray had a bonding moment with in a Russian Gulag, and even helped Ray get out of there. But it was fitting that Atom got the final blow on him .
Jeez, Snart freezing his own hand and breaking it apart to get out of those cuffs really took me by surprise. That was really hardcore of Cold to do. I was kind expecting they'd give him a robotic hand to replace it, but a conveniently regenerated hand works just as well...
Poor Hawkman. Kendra seems happier defying destiny and being with Ray then she ever was with Carter.
For starters she barely knew Carter and had only started getting to know him when he died...and this is a CW superhero show remember, no outside pairing like Ray and Kendra ever lasts to terribly long and then has a messy split somewhere down the line...
Talia could be dead or just off doing something that he doesn't agree with, maybe helping Batman or something like that and so then Nyssa gets all of the responsibility put on her...

Well, the episode too place in 1960, so Talia in the present would be in her 60s.

Really good episode. I'm still a bit amazed by how much this show has improved over the course of the season. Glad to see Ray finally emerging from his cocoon of self-doubt. I've enjoyed how they've handled the character--and Routh has done a solid job--but all the moping was getting a bit hard to take. Caity Lotz was great in this one. Even Jax showed a bit of actual personality. I was bit disappointed (although not surprised) to see Snart get his hand back. Seemed like a copout, undermining the ballsiness of what he did. Also, if the ship has that kind of tech in the med bay, how were they unable to save Kendra and Carter's "son." If you can regrow damaged tissue from, essentially, nothing, then you should be able to repair pretty much any trauma injury. I've never been particular impressed by Dominic Purcell as an actor, and haven't thought much of him in the Rory role, but he outdid himself here. He really brought it.

Rip didn't have a DNA sample of the son and it would have taken more time for Gideon (even advanced as it is) to decode a sample strand to be useful then he had time left to live.
