I know this is nothing new, but jesus X-Books are solely going backwards now, aren't they? You know, I was fine with the whole "go back to find the way forwards" thing, but the closest thing to a "forwards" book we have is Astonishing which seems devoted to doing the most backwards thing imaginable- bringing Xavier back.
I wasn't 100% convinced Xavier would actually return, on account of, you know, it's comics, but Mark Paniccia on twitter today has me convinced. His "top reason for wanting Professor Xavier back" tweet left a very sour taste in my mouth.
And every fifth person talks about how it'll bring "the X-Men back" and he'll bring back the spirit of the X-Men. Obviously these 'fans' haven't been reading X-Books for....the last couple of decades. He hasn't been relevant in a loooooonnnnnnnng while. What would Xavier hoenstly bring to the table? Kitty is already headmaster. Logan is basically her advisor. None of the students like him. I just don't understand.

I don't have any problems with Xavier coming back. It was bound to happen. And this is a cool way to do it. 11 more action packed (hopefully) issues that feature good characterization and interaction.

One of the best X-Books from the past years was focused on Xavier and his journey, so you guys need to chill. Having him alive doesn't necessarily mean he'll play the same role as leader/mentor (though, honestly, with this whole nostalgia fever, it wouldn't surprise me).

I'd rather have Xavier back than Logan, Scott or Jean.

Are you talking about Legacy by Mike Carey? It was alright, but I didn't personally rank it that high until Xavier got replaced by Rogue.
To me though, Xavier is ideologically complete. His purpose is done. Logan, Scott and Jean can all reinvent themselves and progress in a way that someone so bound to philosophy and history never can. Logan, perhaps, less so, but I think my point stands. Bringing Xavier back means that we're moving away from discussions on the applicability of his dream and the futility of idealism into debates around the ethics of child soldiers and ends justifying means. Tiresome, imo.

Xavier Legacy was great because he was detached from the X-Men. As you said, they're only bringing him back so he can be the patriarch again.
How pathetic would it be if he started training the O5. 65 years after the start of the franchise and it'd be exactly back where it began. The ultimate devolution.

I can count the number of people who read X-Men Legacy for Xavier on one hand. Legacy grew heavily in popularity because of Rogue (and her X-Men) and Legion.

What a nightmare. *shudders*
Also this reminds me why I hate the 05 as a group on a fundamental level. Gets the credit for being nostalgic and an ode to classic X-Men when they utterly failed as a team and had their series cancelled after 60 issues. And the ANAD team, which propelled the X-Men into new heights and revitalized the dead franchise, gets basically none of the credit.
The editors really do live in their own fantasy-land devoid of reality.

The ANAD team doesn't get credit? Wolverine, Storm, Colossus and Nightcrawler are always everywhere. Sunfire and Thunderbird didn't really stayed enough to count, then the other members were Banshee, Cyclops who stayed and Jean who came back as Phoenix. Only Banshee is ignored these days.

It's kinda sad they ignored him. At least Sunfire and Thunderbird are in the picture though. Jean took his place in the photo, lol.

No, not the team itself. Not in the way the 05 are treated or regarded as high tier omage. And while most members of the ANAD around, when was the last time any of them got serious development or drove a story/crossover? I guess Guggenheim is trying by giving them love problems? They don't really have their due as members or as a team.

You have all three. They're just different ages than the originals.
