I previously addressed that.
I've added to my above comment.
From what I've observed, marriage fans actually seem more vocal now then they have been in years past. I attribute a lot of that to the current popularity of Renew Your Vows.
Admittedly, I jumped...
Products like Renew Your Vows existing and doing well financially and the fact that the pro-marriage side actually seems more vocal than past years. I admittedly don't have any concrete evidence for...
The proposal always felt very natural to me considering all of the build up over the last four years. It was established that Peter and Mary Jane were in love with one another, but it was uncertain...
I remember Tom Brevoort saying that the backlash over eliminating the marriage would blow over in about five years. It's been about ten years now and the marriage actually seems to have gained more...
Contrary to Marvel's wishes, it really seems that the Peter/Mary Jane fans have increased over the years rather than decreased.
The writing wasn't especially good, but fitting for the tone of the story.
Yes, I thought your summation of the various eras was very well thought out. That being said, I am interested to see...
Yeah, I don't know anyone that upset about Slott leaving after being on the book for nearly a decade.
Yeah, Torment definitely contained on of the most memorable uses of The Lizard.
Regarding the topic at hand, what are your favorite Spider-Man stories per decade?
You, Mets and myself seem to be the only people on this board who actually like Torment.
The 1980s have so many great stories that it's ridiculous. It's kind of surprising that none of these stories made your second list:
*The Big Question (Amazing vol. 1 #290-292)
I know you...
It honestly wouldn't have changed anything. Marvel has made it clear many times that they hate the very idea of Peter Parker being married at all. In fact, one of the numerous reasons Gwen was killed...
Like you, I already own most of the issues collected in this run, but it would be great to have it in a collection. Easily my favorite Spider-Man run after Stan Lee's and Steve Ditko's.
You can...
One of the greatest runs in the history of the character is undoubtedly J.M. Dematteis's and Sal Buscema's Spectacular Spider-Man. With such an acclaimed run, it's really surprising that Marvel has...
Larsen's art tends to be pretty hit and miss for me; I've always preferred Todd McFarlane. Michelinie's writing is very solid and a lot of fun, so no complaints there. This will probably make for a...
No apologies necessary. I would agree with most of your sentiments on each era. That being said, I still think the '90s had more good stories overall than the '70s despite all of the schlock that...
What would you say are some of the highlights and missteps for those eras?
I think it's far past time Slott left the title. I enjoyed most of Big Time and Superior Spider-Man, but haven't liked Volumes 3 and 4 at all. He's definitely done some good to great stories in the...
In the end, The Gauntlet just felt like more inconsistency from a mediocre period.
The art is actually the reason I haven't read that story; I personally can't stand it.
If used too often and handled poorly, the "Parker luck" can start to feel like an excuse for Peter messing up too often and being incompetent.
Thanks for the link. I never realized so few people voted for those awards back then.
Regardless of success, I do think most status quo shifts can work as long as they are interesting and competently written. Unfortunately, I don't think this has been the case for the current Parker...
