Well, I do, obviously, because for one thing, if it can be read as a genuine continuation of that world, that means there are a whole bunch of back issues I would want to get to fill in the backstory...

But none of that makes it mutually exclusive to the animated universe--those New Mutants characters could have come on board after the series ended, for example. Not being restricted to the material...
