The Star Wars franchise is a mess and in a vulnerable position. Zaslav is the type who is going to want to compete and go down fighting even if it means going down in flames.

JJ Abrams did submit a pilot script for his hack HBO project Demimonde. It was rejected.

Say what you will about David Zaslav but he had the sense to see through Abrams’ act.

It’ll be interesting to see who Zaslav puts in charge of Star Trek if the merger happens. He’s going to want to supercharge the franchise to compete with Star Wars and Disney.

James Gunn has never run anything. He’s just telling the talent what they want to hear even if he has no plans to follow through.

Robert Meyer Burnett has said it was actually former WB chairman Tobey Emmerich who was running DC. Hamada was just his point man.

I have always felt that the Gunn announcement, followed by the dog and pony show press conference a month later, was just Zaslav trying to get the stock to shoot up a bit. Didn’t work.
