As I read it, it means that originally Jean/Phoenix wasn't that powerful... That she was Storm's level powerful.
But she could transcend her limits and go full potential to save the universe.

Jean was dead for 14 years. So it's nice that for now, X-Men Red is focusing on Jean. I think that later on, characters like Trinary will be developed. But right now, with Cassie as her nemesis,...

I agree. I preferred the black and white previews too.
The inker doesn't fit with the artist style.

With X-Men Black coming, I guess the color coded title will stay. So you're surely right. X-Men Red is safe.

I remember Whedon saying that Scott and Emma was about falling in love with the wrong person.

I like the color coded titles. And now I can assume that the "X-Men Red" title is still relevant after the end of Blue and Gold.
