Why was it that Colossus' costume had blue legs when he was in human form but no legs in metallic form? I'm guessing it was an artistic preference/unstable molecules, but was there ever an official explanation?

I can't remember if it was Cockrum or Byrne, but one of them addressed this. It came down to Piotr's bare thighs being too revealing. You can't have all that Russian beef on display. It's not kosher.

Yep. That was the reason. I think it was an editor that said that Colossus could not walk around bare-legged when he was in his human form.

Speaking of uniforms, I don't know why Colossus stopped wearing the Bianchi Astonishing costume. It was a great modernization to his original, and the Marvel Legends Colossus figure with the lumberjack beard and the metrosexual haircut was just icing on the cake for a modern Colossus.
