As for my own revamp ideas . . . well, I wouldn't outright revamp so much as refine, because a lot of the character I'd "revamp" has already been established so well, I'd just touch up a few things here and there. For example, where did the spider that bit him come from before it got irradiated, and why would ordinary radiation enable a spider to bequeath its abilities to a human in its final moments rather than just give the human cancer? Answer: The exhibit was actually of a newly discovered radioactive isotope that amplified the properties of whatever it was exposed to (ISO-8 from all the Marvel mobile games), and the amplified properties of the spider venom also served to amplify his own bodily functions and capacities once it bonded with his biochemistry and nervous system. As for the spider, it was an experimental subject in enhancing and harnessing the actual medicinal properties of spider venom to induce faster recovery from certain ailments in humans, and given that different experiments can be carried out in the same facility, all it took was a little bit of carelessness for the spider to wander out and get exposed to the new isotope.

Then there's the matter of his particular power-set. Spiders are not given nearly enough credit for their strength and speed, proportional to their size. If a spider can lift up to 170 times its own weight, and Spider-Man's powers are the abilities of a spider scaled up to human size, then he should be able to lift 14 tons. Spiders are also capable of crossing distances up to 70 times their own body length in a second, so if we scale that up to human size as well, a spider-powered human should be capable of running at speeds far north of 200mph --- precisely speaking, 278.41 miles per hour. Spiders stick to surfaces because the hairs on their body generate a form of static cling through Van der Waals forces, and Spider-Man's skin does the same through excessively high bioelectricity, and his strength and speed enable him to carry and maneuver his own weight over the surfaces he climbs. Additionally, those hairs are very sensitive, even hypersensitive, to vibrations and currents in the air, which is how spiders are able to detect and pounce on potential prey or evade potential predators. Similarly, Spider-Man's senses are hyper-attuned to his environment, and work so fast and extensively that the only way to prevent total sensory overload is for his brain to operate these senses at mostly subconscious levels, his conscious mind processing the rush of information as a tingle at the base of his brain stem that spreads throughout his entire nervous system and causes his body to move reflexively to avoid the danger. However, it should be made clear that the enhanced spider venom spreading through his system doesn't give him any new organs that he didn't have already --- meaning no spinnerets --- it simply augments and adapts his body to emulate a spider's abilities as much as possible.

How does he exploit these new abilities? By sneaking into underground MMA (mixed martial arts) clubs and practicing on everyone there, soon dominating the underground circuit and becoming quite cocky and arrogant in the process, which begins to bleed into his civilian persona, much to the dismay of his beloved uncle and aunt. Of course, he learns a lesson about where his arrogance leads when he runs into a thief on his way home from his latest victory and doesn't bother stopping him, because he doesn't see it as his problem, only for said thief to burglarize a house and kill a man in the process when said man tries to fight back. In a tragic coincidence, that man is his uncle, and our protagonist is out for the thief's blood, only to realize upon cornering him that he's the same thief he ignored as himself, not caring at the time what the thief would or could go on to do. Crushed by guilt and self-loathing, he drops the thief-turned-killer into the custody of the police chasing him, and departs the scene to reflect on what he's done and what he could or should have done, coming to the conclusion that he should have done better and been better . . . and that's exactly what he has to be from now on, better. No, not just better . . . Amazing. Here comes the Spider-Man.

Does he work for The Daily Bugle in his civilian identity? Yes, but in a much different capacity than usual. He works in the Bugle's online and social media department, keeping it free of bots and spam and viruses and malware while also spreading its presence through the Internet to new generations of readers, listeners, and viewers. Ironically, the Bugle's founder and owner, J. Jonah Jameson, constantly writes and/or posts articles demonizing Spider-Man, smearing him as a reckless vigilante or even no better than the criminals he "claims" to fight, completely unaware that he is actually employing Spider-Man. Then again, the Spider-Man articles, whether pro or anti, do seem to get lots of clicks and likes and shares, so who cares, right?
I'm sure that Marvel will get around to refining some of these things overtime; the more dated elements of the story. they could certainly use the touches that you've recommended as a guide. they do tend to brush over just how augmented a person would be if they had the proportionate strength and speed of a spider. just going outside for lunch, I see them move unbelievably quick across the sidewalk (makes me terrified for Ant-Man). the MMA stuff is a decent update, as well. there as nothing wrong with wrestling. but I think the underground or roaming fight challenges are more common; nowadays (unless it's backyard wrestling). does Peter still have photography as a side hobby in your update? the web programming makes sense. but I also like the element of him filming/taking picture of himself that has been in all of the films.

    From the X-Verse

TESSA - I like the idea of Professor Xavier having tried another way before forming the X-Men. I don't like some of the seedier elements that they worked into his history. I do like Tessa as being sort of a Lisbeth Salander type character who Xavier placed within the Hellfire Club. I found her to be an interesting character back-in-the-day; mostly because she played an important role w/o a backstory or even a hint at a social life. what I personally would want revamp-wise is her powerset. I think Claremont overdid it. I would have been just fine with her being a skilled telepath. but he got his hands on her and just started adding power after power. so I'd meet him halfway and just remove the telepathy. she has a natural psychic firewall; necessary to keep her safe while being undercover. I'd just say that the Club was full of young telepaths whose job it was to allow the inner circle to communicate clandestinely; when needed. the stuff that I'd keep...

neurotypical disordered mind works like a supercomputer; unlimited storage capacity, instant recall, increased thought processing, calculating speed, multi-tasking, etc.

ability to 'see' a person's genetic code, reading their DNA sequences for latent and manifested mutations. This allows her to identify mutants and give her a general sense of how their power works. through great effort, she'd be able to "jump start" latent mutations or temporarily mute a power.

oh and screw all of that Elias Bogan stuff. I've got no problem with her getting in over her head when the Shadow King shows up at the Club. it's happened to plenty of characters. but her being facially branded by some Shadow King knockoff/proxy was clearly part of a Claremont fetish (see: Ahab and the Hounds).
    -------------
    CHANGELING

I'd just give Kevin Sydney a happier ending. his cancer would go into remission. his "death" as Xavier would have been faked; used to allow him to return to his primary function, being a spymaster for the Mutant Underground Intelligence Network. I like to think of him still being out there watching over other mutants or mutant sympathizers who do just as much as the X-Men to make the world a better place but have never been to the mansion.

Nothing wrong with wrestling, but since it's nowadays common knowledge that pro wrestling is largely scripted and choreographed, it does take more suspense of disbelief to have some newbie in a spider-themed, web-encrusted onesie randomly drop in and start handing everyone their @$$es without his identity being known to the company and other behind-the-scenes issues related to that. I went with underground MMA for my update/"refinement" of Spider-Man's origin because underground fight clubs, which are already of somewhat dubious legality (in New York, anyway), would be less likely to ask questions about who's behind the mask, semi-realistically speaking. As for whether Peter still has photography as a side hobby (or side hustle, as the kids call it these days), he does work on introducing some comparatively radical inventions to The Daily Bugle to make photography and videography easier, or at least less dangerous for journalists, such as a camera drone capable of audiovisual transmission to a linked computer and/or smartphone. This would provide a more believable explanation for how Peter Parker can get those clear, crisp pictures of Spider-Man without having to put himself in the thick of Spider-Man's battles, though he would still need a remote (or so he would claim) to navigate and maneuver the drone, thus justifying him being out there without necessarily putting himself in direct physical danger.

Also, I like your ideas for Tessa/Sage and Changeling (Morph before Morph). Speaking of mutant heroes, given that Nate Grey so far has yet to regain the full measure of his telepathic and telekinetic powers, my revamp would be that he simply learns to adapt to his comparative lack of power by channeling it into his physicality. He comes to use his residual TK like an invisible armor around his body that protects him from most forms of attack and he can concentrate it into his own body to augment his muscles and bones for a form of super-strength, or propel himself across the ground or any surface he can physically contact for a form of limited super-speed. His residual telepathy can be used more to read the feelings and intentions of those around him, providing an almost spider-sense-like warning when someone has hostile thoughts or impulses that they intend to act on, especially regarding his person. Then there is Justice from the New Warriors, and since he wants to be a traditional kind of superhero (no shame in that), I'd have him use his telekinesis not just for flight, but primarily as a personal shield against most forms of attack and an invisible armor that increases his physical strength and speed, basically emulating the first superhero that everybody knows and refers to in one form or another.

sounds good. that's pretty much all I added to Vance Astrovik's story in my earlier revamp; simulating super strength with his TK.

The biggest problem with Jubilee over the course of her existence is that she rarely had any agency. The reason being that she was designed to be the viewpoint kid character. I remember back in the '90s they even used to act like she had some kind of rebellious attitude because rebellious attitudes were cool back then. But since she was never really allowed to do anything, it just manifested as her complaining a lot. So, usually, stuff just happens to her. And on the rare occasions that she does make choices and decisions, those are some of her best and most memorable moments. Whether or not you liked her New Warriors stint or her taking in Shogo, they were memorable. The surprisingly long stint after Gen X where she was largely just a damsel-in-distress for Logan: forgettable. And now she's gone from a rebel who couldn't rebel to an authority figure.

I agree to some extent with your ideas. Notably the questions you want her to ask. It suggests an attempt by Jubilee to take some control over her life. Because there's got to be a point where survivors stop surviving and start living. One thing I would like to play up with Jubilee is that she's been on both sides of the poverty line. She was the stuck-up rich kid, but she was also the streetwise teenage runaway. That should give her a unique viewpoint, especially regarding how fleeting some things in life are. In keeping with that and the idea of surviving/having little control over one's life, maybe make her a hero who has a special yen for helping kids on the fringes. You know: homeless kids, runaways, throwaways, kids in foster care. Maybe not for every story, but just as part of her greater milieu.
Hmmm, I get where your coming from I wish I could mail your post to the X-office!

ALPHA FLIGHT: CANADA’S answer to the Avengers.

VINDICATOR & GUARDIAN – I don’t see much wrong with original story. Mac’s a gifted engineer who ends up stealing the exoskeleton powersuit that he develops because his shady employers plan to sell the suits to the U.S (to be used in war). His girlfriend Heather uses her govt contacts to keep him out of prison; landing them both in Dept H’s service. I kind of like the idea of Mac being an idealist and Heather being more of a pragmatist (but them being committed to one another). Visually, I see Mac as a younger version of Hugh Jackman. I liked Dale Eaglesham’s version of Heather. I might make her something other than a secretary at Amcam. Not every female character needs to be a scientist or some kind of professional. but I need her to have some kind of leadership experience if she’s going to, eventually, wear the suit. I’d settle for her being some kind of public relations specialist.

PUCK – he’s a likable character. But he has one of those origins that would never make it into a movie. I’d make his stature something non-mystical. His mutation would allow for the super-athleticism and enhanced durability. It’s also cool if they want him to have been around a long time. Slow aging goes hand in hand with increased durability. I think it’d be cool for someone with what seems to be a physical limitation to also be this wordly sportsman. He’s the Ben Grimm of the group (although better natured). I would establish that he does conceal some kind of ongoing physical pain; maybe the result of having been in thousand brutal altercations and there being limited help because of his altered physiology.

SASQUATCH – hmm. I’d try to make him less like Hank McCoy. He could keep his athletic build. He could have done something pioneering in sports medicine; that made him millions. I want him to be the “Stark” to Mac’s “Rogers.” Walt would have had everything going for him; money, women, celebrity. But he’d begin to lose all of it to some kind of debilitating disease; like ALS. He’d devote much of his fortune to finding a cure. The desperation would lead him to one of the Flight’s future recurring rogues, The Master of the World. He would have disguised himself of course and be quite happy to have a human test subject for his dangerous genetic experiments. He’d heal Walter right up; using genetic material from a cryptid (that turns out to be Canada’s native big foot(s)). He’d gradually transition into his classic Sasquatch form and lead him to the Flight. This form would be permanent, for a time; to give Walter a new perspective on life. But with Department H’s resources, he (and their science team) make it an optional look; that he can toggle between. I’d give him an estranged ex-wife; who took over running his pharmaceutical company, while he was ‘squatched out.

SHAMAN – Alpha Flight’s very first mission would have them cross paths with Michael Twoyoungmen and his young daughter, Elizabeth. They have traveled a long way and are on a mission of revenge. Michael came a long line of tribal guardians. While having all of the training (some military training, as well), Mike shirked his duties (wanted to be a family man w/ a medical practice)/turned his back on magic. But that didn’t stop a demon from rampaging through his community; taking his wife/elizabeth’s mom. Twoyoungmen was able to hurt the demon; causing it to flee. But it has some limited bodyhopping ability. So he has been tracking it town-to-town. At some point, it’s strength (or maybe just its desperation) grows; causing it to act in a public enough fashion to attract Alpha Flight’s attention. Yadda yadda they all save the day. They give the two a place to stay. I wanted there to be a kid character running around; growing up around the team. It’s important to me that neither character is your stereotypical native American wiseman/woman character. He’s a smart guy with a sharp wit. She’s whatever counts as a typical Canadian almost teen w/ all of those issues.

NORTHSTAR & AURORA – I’d probably make them a lot like the Maximoff Twins; Age of Ultron version. By that, I mean make them misguided and angry youth who volunteer to have their potential unlocked; my guess would be artificial terrigenesis. They’d still be orphans. But I’d make them younger. So no school teacher job for Aurora just yet or ski championing for Jean-Paul. She would have had some horrible stuff happen to her at a catholic church run orphanage; leading to her dissociative state. They’d wind up with some Hydra-esque but Canada-specific terrorist organization; mostly to survive. Jean Paul would still be gay. Maybe Raymond Belmonde would be the one to recruit them; attempt to indoctrinate Jean-Paul. Aurora would harbor some resentment for her brother; blaming him for their involvement with terrorists. Aiding Alpha Flight is their way of making amends. Or maybe they are double agents. Who knows? Yes, I know it’s a lot like Pietro and Wanda. But those similarities already existed.

SNOWBIRD would later be found by Michael and Elizabeth while out hunting. she'd be injured and trying to escape Wendigo. she'd still be a mystical being of some sort taken in by a married couple living out in the middle of nowhere. but they would have (tragically) been infected by the Wendigo curse, at some point; causing her to run.

Alpha Flight would be big on charity and mingling with civilians. and, yes, the Hudsons would have encountered Wolverine. and they would, as a team, hunt him down; mistakenly thinking that he was responsible for the Wendigo's crimes.

Something I'd like to see for Sasquatch is the notion that other occult types in the region have learned what he did and how he did it, and have turned to using mystical means to replicate these feats, with other Great Beasts. Travelling to the place where Alpha Flight first defeated Tundra, in Alpha Flight #1, three corrupt mystics first channel the power of Tundra into one of them. They then proceed to the place where Snowbird imprisoned Kolomaq, the Snow Beast, and bind the second of themselves to that Beast, before moving to the sight of a great Canadian fire to channel the power of Tolomaq, the Fire Beast. (None of them are crazy enough to want to bind Ranaq, the Devourer, or Kariooq, the Corrupter!) And now Alpha Flight has three new enemies, each with minor spellcasting abilities (also Great Beast-themed, casting illusions called 'the Raptures of Ranaq' or rotting / decay effects called 'the Corruption of Kariooq' or transmutation effects called 'the Shaping of Somon'), and each with the power of a Great Beast, over earth, snow and ice, or fire.

    Ooh, some fun choices!

I want Laura Dean to spend so much time on 'Liveworld' that she grows up and turns into Machiko Noguchi, a tough wild warrior who can call upon not just one Goblyn, but an entire species of them, teleported in from liveworld to help her face whatever threats arise.

And I want Marrina to take over an abandoned Plodex ship (once 'owned' by the Master, but now recognizing only Marrina, a *real* Plodex, as it's true master, and not some modified human wannabe), and run an unofficial alien 'spaceport' on Earth, outside the authority of any Earthly government. And every now and then make some noise about having diplomatic immunity, as 'Queen of Atlantis,' to which Namor kind of shrugs and says, 'well, technically, I guess... Is 'till death do us part' part of Atlantean royal marriages, and would it be legally binding even if it was?'

I think I would have picked Link, over Poltergeist, for X-Force. The way he would telekinetically murder people by squishing their brains inside their skulls seems a very X-Force kind of use of mutant powers...

I'd make her a teacher at Avengers Academy. She does have knowledge of engineering and biology so those could be useful in a school environment.

    Susan Storm

Make her a doctor and team medic.

    Black Cat

    Bring back her detective agency

Thanks, come to think of it, if I were to have him in a revamped New Warriors, I'd start with him willingly serving prison time for accidentally killing his abusive father with his powers. When the mass super-villain breakout happens, Vance is the one helping the guards keep the prisoners from escaping, and though he's not completely successful, it's remarked that if it wasn't for him, a lot more villains would have escaped. His heroics get the attention of someone, someone with connections to spare and money to burn, who sets him up with a lawyer that successfully argues for his early release in light of what he did. Of course, with Vance a free man, he gets to meet the man who bailed him out, none other than Dwayne Taylor, a young, wealthy vigilante who's intent on building a team of like-minded people to help the world in bigger and smaller ways than just punching out the latest super-villain.

I like your ideas, and I would also add in the case of the Black Cat that as an expert thief, she would specialize in retrieving stolen property and consulting on security systems for various individuals and groups (non-criminal or terrorist, of course).

Bill Foster aka Goliath---------For my revamp I would have him come back from the dead via Pym Particles. I would have it revealed that at the time of his death, Foster was engaged in some advanced research into Pym Particles and was on a break through of discovering the God Particle. The God Particle in Marvel Universe definition would allow those who used the particles to come back from the dead. Their essence would be trapped in some ionic stasis type existence in a quantum realm. After retrieving his conscience, Bill Foster would return to the land of the living with new powers. In addition to enlarging himself he can travel through dimensions via shifting his atomic structure or shift other objects and people via touching them. The drawback is there's a temporal effect so he'll shift away but when shifts back time has passed. He's still working the kinks out with this ability. His nephew Tom Foster will be his lab assistant and sidekick.

White Tiger---------I would have her be able to use her abilities without the amulet. The amulet was just anchor to keep those abilities in check but somehow she internalized the Tiger God's powers. In addition to martial arts, she would be able to summon tigers as well as communicate with her deceased brother Hector Ayala.

not bad. I thought about doing one that combined Ava and Angela (just to streamline it). I have no idea how old Hector was supposed to be. but Ava looks like she should be his daughter (whereas Angela looked she could have mothered Ava). anyways, it would be nice for her to not have to rely on the amulet (although I don't have anything against it). I might give the amulet a link to Kunlun.

that's an interesting twist on it. I like the Dwayne Taylor as a benefactor (strings attached) angle.
