Default Should there be a member of the Justice League who has the ability to use magic?

Since we don't have a Justice League Dark comic, and the main members of the Justice League mostly have science-based powers and are always fighting alien conquerors or cosmic beings. If there was a magical threat should the Justice League ever encounter, should Wonder Woman or Aquaman use magic if the Justice League faces a powerful magic-based villain? Or should they call magic-based allies such as Zatanna, Dr Fate, Constatine, etc.?

Between Wonder Woman and Aquaman, I'm leading towards Aquaman because the Atlanteans to me seems more magic-savvy than the Amazons who are a warrior race with limited magic resources.

I may be the only person who actually liked Bloodwynd. But I wouldn't want them to bring him back now. Not until DC figures its stuff out and restores the League's history first. So, if they need a magic user, just bring in Zatanna.

    Well there's Shazam.

But he's just a magic-powered brawler like Supes (and most of the other leaguers), so for a character whose main weapon is magic, I'd pick Dr. Fate.

I'd pick Dr. Fate over the other magic characters mostly because Fate looks like a classic superhero, and I prefer my JL to look like superheroes and for the JLD to not look like superheroes. For diversity sake, they could use one of the female versions.

I like all the magic guys being in JL Dark, that's their thing after all, while the league stay comfortably sci-fy.

I think it's sensible the League have a member who specializes in magic, at least moreso then Wonder Woman does.

The JSA has Dr. Fate, the JLA has Vixen, and the Titans have Raven and Garth.

Though being the team's resident magic expert has always been Zatanna's thing, but it's been a long time since she's been a consistent member.

I don't think the Justice League should be science fiction, or any focused genre besides the superhero one. The Justice League should be the best of the best, so it should feature bits of everything. Some science based characters (Superman, the Atom, the Flash, Elongated Man, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Red Tornado), some fantasy based characters (Zatanna, Captain Marvel, Aquaman, Wonder Woman), and some pulp characters (Batman, Green Arrow, Black Canary). Which, I think the League has always been, and I don't see reason to change it. DC has some other 100% science fiction based teams they could utilize as their premier sci-fi team, sort of as counter balance to their magic team (Justice League Dark) (Even though I know DC isn't publishing JL Dark anymore.) and their main team (Justice League).

If no Justice League Dark, then Zatanna.

If there is a Justice League Dark, Zatanna goes there, and Dr. Fate can be the League's 'magic guy.'

If there's *also* a JSA/All-Star Squadron, then Dr. Fate can go there, and Dr. Mist or the Phantom Stranger can be the League's 'magic guy.'

Dr. Mist would be a cool choice, just because he's so underutilized (and putting him on a team that's had characters like Cyborg, John Stewart and Black Lightning, any 'magical negro' complaints are nullified, I think). But Phantom Stranger has a history with the League, and also isn't exactly popping up all over the place...

I don't consider Aquaman, Captain Marvel or Wonder Woman to be 'magic-users,' so much as people who have magic in their backstories. Similarly, Green Arrow uses some gimmicky arrows, but he's not even a little bit of a scientist, like Ray Palmer.

I wish the league had a more rotating membership with lots of heroes like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, The Green Lanterns, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, Mera, Cyborg, Shazam, Plastic-Man, Red Tornado, Vixen, Hawkgirl/Woman (Shayera), Black Lightning, Icon, Atom, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Firestorm, Element Woman, Captain Atom, and Zatanna (Who could split time with Justice League Dark). I'd like a more Justice League Unlimited/Young Justice or satellite years type league with a Founders Council but missions members are selected for best who serves that mission.

Yes. I think the main Justice League should always have a mystic as a full-time member with how often they face supernatural threats. My 1st pick for this member is Zatanna.
Currently(or soon to be) Reading: Alan Scott: Green Lantern, Batman/Superman: World's Finest, Fire & Ice: Welcome to Smallville, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Jay Garrick: The Flash, Justice Society of America, Power Girl, Superman, Shazam, Titans, Wesley Dodds: Sandman, Wonder Woman, & World's Finest: Teen Titans.

I don't know if they always need one on the active council but Zatnna would be my first pick.

Magic is kind of funky and scary and I could see them trying to avoid it or leave it to the specialists

I'd love to see Zatanna back. I'd also love for them to retcon Phantom Stranger back to where he was pre-New 52 and have him be the big gun they call when they need an answer man (as opposed to a spell caster specifically like Zatanna).

If Zat's not a possibility then Dr. Fate.

I'd like to have Zatanna back with the League Preferably with a version of the last costume she wore during the old satellite years pre-crisis.

There's a long line of mystics being in the JLA, whether its Dr. Fate, Zatanna, Bloodwynd, or Manitou Raven. IMO, the JLA should always reflect the different corners of the DCU, the mystic corner included.

I like that they have a lot of them on call and some in the larger group but I don't think any of the main ones need to be magic users. Plus magic users tend to be more adult oriented so it makes sense that they don't have one on the team.

Ooh, Manitou Raven's another interesting choice.

Or Etrigan, again, if there's no Justice League Dark. I vaguely recall Jason Blood being knowledgeable about magic, even when he's not a demon.
