Len Wein 1948-2017

I saw this news elsewhere, and am saddened by it. "My" Len Wein was a DC editor in the mid-80s. The Batbooks under his tenure were really good. He also edited Crisis on Infinite Earths, and wrote/edited Green Lantern. The first 2 letters I ever wrote to a comic editor were written to Len - because he seemed like a friend I simply hadn't met yet.

I've drifted away from comics themselves over the last 10 years, but I have happy memories of his stories, and great respect for his work and style.

As a Spider-Man writer:

• He finally married Ned and Betty.
• Rehabilitated Otto and Harry.
• Created Will O' the Wisp (rescuing Harrow in the process).
• Recovered the Tinkerer as a viable character.
• Put the Spider-Mobile to rest.
• Tried to give the Kingpin a coherent retirement.
• He wrote a moving standalone issue.

It was an overall solid run without game-changing pyrotechnics.

DC came out with a good collection of Len Wein stories earlier this year in HC.
