I think making The Phoenix an Avenger in this is just to have X-Men representation for the book. I don't think they are going to make Phoenix an Avenger past that BC book.

Related to the rest of this thread if they do bring back original Wolverine I agree that is stupid unnecessary and excessive. Even worse by far would be bringing back Wolverine and original Jean without original Cyclops. Yeah that's just what we need....

Ok. Answer me this. What does the Phoenix look like? Because if the answer is she looks like Jean than you can't sidestep the legalities with a retcon. If she looks like a giant firebird you have the same problem because that's clearly an aspect of a x-character, not some nebulous offspring. If she doesn't look like either than whats the draw for Marvel to promote this? Also given Fox's upcoming movie property do you really think they would let the Phoenix slip through their fingers while there trying to promote their movie with the Pheonix in it? Maybe I'm missing something here.

I don't think Fox has any leverage in this, whatsoever. They have everything to lose and very little to gain. They're the ones who have to spend the money to advertise X-men: Dark Phoenix. Marvel gets paid a share either way. I think by tying Phoenix to the Avengers and not Jean Grey, Marvel is thinking long-term. They're banking on X-men Dark Phoenix to raise some awareness of the Phoenix, but they don't want that awareness directed at the X-men. They want it directed at the Avengers and other properties that they control completely. That's why them turning the Phoenix Force into an Avengers, somehow, and cutting it off from the X-men makes sense for them. Granted, it will really upset a certain contingent of X-men fans, but Marvel has shown a willingness to upset those fans in the past. I think they've realized there's no winning back those fans. They're focusing on building new fans instead.

Like I said, I'm about 95 percent sure of this. All the incentives line up. Marvel has everything to gain by making Phoenix an Avenger and cutting all ties with the X-men. When there's that kind of incentive, that's usually a pretty good indication that it will happen.

So I saw a post on 4chan about marvel December solicits (tried to find it on any other sites to see if to compare, but don't think it's officially out there), seems Marvel has something big planned for the Phoenix and Jean grey in December. Almost all the marvel comics have a Phoenix variant cover, and there seem to be sales of short Jean grey /Phoenix stories for 1 dollar each.
Jean grey #10 also comes out that month (looking at sales, marvel might end it there, but if they bring adult Jean back, maybe they could make it her own book).
