Default Cover Contest 13th to 19th September 2017: In Memory of Len Wein

With the passing of the great Len Wein (a true Bronze Age titan from my childhood), I felt it was fitting to have the contest in honor of his outstanding work. Any cover that featured his talents inside the covers is A-OK with me.

    The rules:
-Post One (& ONLY ONE) Cover that fits the theme of this Week's Contest!
-Cover must be from a Published Comic Book or Collected Volume!
-Covers must be Posted before Voting Begins!
-Voting Begins 12 AM Tuesday and Runs Until 12 AM Wednesday PST (3 AM EST)!
-Vote by Posting the name in BOLD of the Poster whose cover best fits the theme or that you simply like the most! A vote need not be in bold, but it does make it easier to Count-The-Votes!
-The Winner of the Contest is the Entry with the MOST Votes after the Voting-Period!
-It's Okay to Discuss the Covers but if you Think Someone's Entry Doesn't Fit the Theme or Violates the Rules, you Don't need to Argue it in the thread, Simply Don't Vote for It!
-Plus: Occasionally Voting will Result in a Tie! The Person Who Started the Thread will do the Counting that Week will Usually call for a TIE-Breaking --Vote from Someone who has Not Yet Voted!
-AFTER the Tie-Breaker Vote, Voting Ends and the Winner is Declared by The One Who Started the Thread (or assigned surrogate) and Thus will do the Counting.

Looking forward to seeing your entries!

Here's my contribution - Mr. Wein's first story and creation:

    A bat! That's it! It's an omen.. I'll shall become a bat!

Created by writer Len Wein and artist Bernie Wrightson

Swamp Thing First appearance House of Secrets #92 (July 1971)
    Script: Len Wein
    Art : Bernie Wrightson

Hard to choose between this and Swamp Thing #1 but went with first appearance.
Our swampy world is a better place for it

PaulBullion you're going to run a way with that first appearance New X-Men Cockrum cover, Len Wein story.

This was the first FF comic I ever read and it was amazing! It's one of the reasons why I became a big FF fan.

    “You had a dream; I have a plan”--Cyclops

It's actually a Gil Kane cover, signed in the corner.

Wait, I thought that was Cockrum, and more than just inks, I guess I never read the sig. did they both worked on it? How does that work?
Did Kane do the figures in back, and Cockrum the New X-Men smashing through upfront?

Other way around, according to GCD:

    Pencils:
Gil Kane [as GK] (signed); Dave Cockrum (Original X-Men figures)
    Inks:
    Dave Cockrum [as DEC] (signed)

    Huh, ok interesting, thanks!
I guess that's where Kane first changed the Wolverine mask then?

    Kane's layouts...

    Plus Cockrum...

My bad, Sorry for the derail!
    Beautiful choice none the less.

What a great way to pay tribute to Len Wein! As for my entry, here's one of my old school faves he wrote with art by Jose Garcia Lopez and Dick Giordano:

Avatar: Here's to the late, great Steve Dillon. Best. Punisher. Artist. EVER!

This issue contains a 4-page story written, pencilled and inked by Len Wein. Possibly his only pro art job in comics, although he did a lot in fanzines with his writer friend Marv Wolfman.
