In this story the Punisher does not apear but this is a powerful story indeed.
Len Wein run in Amazing Spider-Man was great, this is one of my favorites. The Shocker two part story before this issue is awesome as well.

Ha! You're right. Strange how the UK Spiderman annual got merged into 1 in my head. So I dug out the book, and can see that when I saw your cover entry it triggered a memory of another story in the book: To Sow The Seeds of Death's Day, which was a 3 part Spidey/Punisher story (by Gerry Conway). The Longest Hundred Yards was the last story in the book, and I did reread it a lot. It was a doozy, but very sad. Don't want to spoil the ending, but not everyone makes it to the end alive... :-(

I thought about this in the past... I would have liked to have seen Dean Martin as Harvey

So no one has posted the first appearence of his most popular creation yet?

Yes he popped up on the last page of #180, but this is the treasure issue Bub.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

The Wendigo is Wein's most popular creation?

Man that era in Batman was a load of fun. Like Halloween 24/7.

Indeed. That was when Batman had the costumed villains, while Detective Comics had mostly street-level baddies.

I was thinking that you were mistaken the Len Wein story for another story.
That Len Wein story is quite sad,i was thinking between this story and another from Wein run in Amazing Spider-Man that have a great cover.
But the cover i have posted have such a powerfull story i thought it would be better, the cover i posted.
Coincidentally the first time i read Amazing Spider-Man#153 was in a pocket comic book that had four stories as well. But were four stories from Amazing Spider-Man.
That was one of the first stories i read of Spider-Man and was one that i still remember after all these years due the story and art.

I think another subtle/peripheral detail that could have thrown me off is that the goons at the bottom of the cover don't vibe with how I remember the baddies from the football story. They look more like Moses's baddies from the jungle Punisher story. Anyway. I might check that out if I get around to it...

I really loved that mini by the late Darwyn Cooke. But it contains also a story by Len Wein : "The Curse of the Crimson Corsair: The Devil in the Deep...!"

...And the cover says it all about the losses of the recent years...
