Yes, but they state it was never really viable for mass production back then.

To quote Dr. Culber "The success rate was so low that eventually people just stopped trying"

That was 800 hundred years ago. With the advances in technology since Picard's era they should be making backups for the entire crew.

Maybe it'll be one of those game-changing Trek discoveries from Kurtzman's other stuff that just kind of get buried or ignored, like Transwarp beaming & magical Khan blood.

Your answer is right there in the quote...they stopped trying. If it was believed to be non-viable then it doesn't matter how much time passes, abandoned technology by definition doesn't get developed.
Science has advanced leaps and bounds ahead of where it was in the 1200's for instance and yet even with particle accelerators it was found that the dream of alchemy( to turn lead into gold) wasn't very feasible with modern science as what gold you got out of it wasn't worth the energy and money put into it so it isn't surprising that the technology need to create new cloned bodies didn't go anywhere either.

    Discovery Picard
    Season 4
    Episode 3 E
Choose To Live...Is the dumb catch catchphrase first heard in Picard.

Commander Fickett of the USS Credence is dropping off some delirium and then....

EVERYBODY WAS KUNG-FU FIGHTING! THOSE NUNS WERE FAST AS LIGHTING! IN FACT IT WAS A LITTLE BIT FRIGHTENING! BUT THEY FOUGHT WITH EXPERT TIMING! Special thanks to Carl Douglas.

The head warrior tells Fickett to stand down (hey, there are these things called "phasers" that you can set to "stun" that would have made this so much easier)

It occurs to Fickett that this is the future and phasers are a thing. He decides to stare at it for...like...five seconds before doing anything and gets taken down.

"Please, my friend, choose to live" Ughhhh, somebody really thinks this catchphrase is badass?

Now Burnham is being brought up to speed by Vance. The President and leader of Nivar is present. Apparently it's the work of the ninja nun.

It's Mama Burnham! She says that only the ninja nuns can bring her in alive. Has she considered using a phaser set to stun? You never know it just might work.

Nivar's leader says that the ninja nuns unique ways must be respected. The President nods her head at her like she is the crazy cousin at Thanksgiving dinner.

    Joint Mission!

Tilly is bothering Saru. She is boring me

Burnham needs Book's ship. Stamets has a theory.

Ugh...YOU DIED GRAY. YOU LIVE IN THE SYMBIOTE NOW. THAT'S THE DEAL.

SARU tells Burnham to bring Tilly along for the mission.

    Tilly will not shut up.

They are talking about Spock? Hasn't this episode made me suffer enough without bringing up last season?

Mama Burnham tells them to leave their phasers on board. Burnham tells Mama Burnham that they will be set to stun. Mama Burnham says that if they use phasers she will never get through to her. Uhhh...getting through to her wasn't the mission apprehending her was. But they use swords because..sigh who knows. People attack and a ninja nun is killed and....Tilly isn't? Really? Rogue ninja nun appears warns them and leaves.

Aidira and Gray boring, skipping it.

The sword trio beam down. Find a lost species and a ship.

Nivar leader wants top talk to Booker. Watching this show is like sitting in on the writing team's therapy sessions I won't bore you with it.

    Adira and Gray...skip

Tilly is bait. Rogue ninja nun shows up. We learn the backstory of the alien race she is protecting.

Booker mind melds, starts crying because this is Discovery and someone has to cry every episode.

Burnham saves the alien race and rogue ninja nun isn't punished.

Gray is okay so they can start cranking out those bodies now. From here on out nobody on this show has to worry about dying I hope breaking your show for these two terrible characters were worth it writers.

Three episodes in and I'm liking this season overall, except for one small thing - Adira and Grey. Pretty sure they just plucked a couple of TikTok kids outta the timestream, circa 2021, and dropped them in the 32nd century. Their dialogue is atrocious, and neither are great actors. I manage 22 year old servers and bartenders that speak/act/present exactly like these two.

A lot of people point out the discrepancies between the original Star Trek Show and Discover, and how Discovery is more in line tonally and visually with the three JJ Abrams Trek movies. It would make more sense if Discovery was set in that universe.

Is there anything in Discovery that doesn't fit in with the Kelvin timeline?

Yes. Vulcan still exists. It's called Ni'Var in the 32nd century, but it's the same planet.

I'm still trying to figure out why the rogue ninja nun didn't just TELL Ni'Var about ship? How stupid was she? If she didn't want to tell the Federation why not just tell Ni'Var? I guess the problem would be if she did the episode would be about meeting the aliens, fixing the ship and helping them settle. Instead of sword fights and hand to hand combat with the fix crammed in at the end.

It would be an actual episode of Star Trek.

But this is Kurtzman Trek and they really wanted a reason to wheel out their poor excuse for Jedi no matter how stupid they are. They are like the Jedi in Star Wars, except without lightsabers or the force so they can't cut through stuff and deflect phaser fire with the swords.Writers have to go to ridiculous lengths to justify why they are alive let alone a thriving order. To make it worse Trek writers really seem to think their "Choose To Live" catchphrase is badass.

There's actually a third season episode where the expert on alternate universes reveals that a Kelvin universe person wound up in the Prime Universe.

Funny thing is, he's still wearing the TNG season 1/2 uniform, which means in the Kelvin timeline it was either introduced later, or stuck around far longer, as he's from 2379.

Liked Ian Alexander in Last of Us 2, although to be fair that was a video game and he was playing a largely different character.

    Title: All Is Possible
    Real Title: Bye Felicia

Sometimes we like the idea of something, but when it's actually done it's not very good. Take Ni'var for instance. The idea of the Romulans and Vulcans finally reunited sounds cool, but man are they boring. They also want an escape clause from The Federation. Why? It's not like they needed one to leave before. But Burnham manages to save the day.

Tilly goes to therapy. This show is one never ending therapy session. If Troi were on this show she would overload and toss herself out the nearest airlock. Tilly decides to volunteer to help cadets and takes Adira with her. Adira says goodbye to Gray who has a new body and has made death meaningless on this show. The ship crashes. Some monsters attack. The team grows closer. The team is rescued! Back on the ship Tilly tells Burnham why getting the pips were the worst day of her life. This was a very real moment. The only one Tilly has had in the last two seasons this could be the start of something big for her character....so naturally she leaves the show .

Book is in therapy....wait didn't we just do your therapy last episode? Skip.

And you ignore the most important part: Saru going for some pointy eared strange.
    Sounds perfect.

Some things get left on the cutting room floor like....

How this episode wasted David Cronenberg.

What can Tilly teach at the Academy? She is a thousand years out of date.

    The hugging and crying.

The fact that the President is trying to run the new Federation like The Hotel California. "You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave"

The Vulcans are more logical than humans. The Romulans were way more sneakier. So they both agree to....give a lot of power to a Federation officer over making decisions to leave?

Wonder if he wears the suit and the glasses just for fashion. Technically blindness and nearsightedness can be 'cured' in Star Trek but I think Geordi in particular preferred the Visor-Pulaski I think says he can get implants but he'd rather not. Kirk of course also had vision problems in TWOK and there seemed to be some kind of medication McCoy suggested but Kirk was allergic to it.

Geordi preferred it up until the movies, though
