A more "all inclusive" version of the JUSTICE LEAGUE.

Inspired by classic Big 7 teams, but not restricted to seven members. I still plan to include more characters, but these are the most important Leaguers to me (plus Mera, who I think is long overdue a spot on the team). Green Arrow and Black Canary are next

I also made some tweaks to most of their designs for my own "definitive" version of their looks.

Current JLA spinoff : Batman, Black Canary, Lobo, Ryan Choi, Ray, Vixen, Killer Frost. With the exception of Killer Frost, these all have had solo titles. Batman is obviously there to help the book survive same as with the past Outsiders team.
Possible JLA spinoff : Batman, Black Canary, Martian Manhunter, Ryan Choi, Ray, Vixen, Deathstroke, Blue Beetle Jaime Reyes, Captain Cold, Golden Glider (telekinesis power), Giganta, Poison Ivy, Blockbuster, Star Sapphire, Major Disaster, Tattooed Man, Hank Henshaw, Faora, livewire, volcana, etc.

I made this list before for another thread but it still works. Two teams one being the heavy hitters handeling the world level threats the other being more the street team taking care of the smaller stuff.

    World level threats:

    Superman
    Wonder Woman
    Flash
Captain Atom (pre NU52 version and not Doctor Caphatten)
Green Lantern (Simon, Hal, or John)
Zatanna (or even bring back the Silver Sorceress if you wanted to change things up)
    Firehawk (instead of Firestorm)
    Hawkgirl
    Vibe

    Street level threats:

    Batman
    Green Arrow
    Aquaman
    Metamorpho
    Black Canary
    Vixen
    Black Lightning
    Green Lantern (Jessica Cruz)

The Martian Manhunter and Cyborg would serve as mission control for both teams working out of the Watchtower and be in the field now and then also. The teams could mix and match members as needed once in a while with the both teams coming together in the event of major trouble. Other characters like the Atom, Fire, Ice, Hawkman, Red Tornado, the Ray, Firestorm, and Shazam could be brought in for an arc here or there and be reserve members.

Splitting the big 7 among two teams frees up space to let the B-listers get a chance to shine.

I love the idea of a 'Satellite era' League team that specifically excludes the 'Big 7.'

Green Arrow (team rich dude, nominal leader)
Black Canary (hand to hand specialist, tactical leader in fights)
    Red Tornado (powerhouse)
Firestorm (powerhouse and a team scientist)
    Hawkwoman (alien tech supplier)
    Atom (team scientist)
Elongated Man (and Sue, team detective / investigator)
    Zatanna (powerhouse and magical support)

It's one bigger than I would prefer (even with Sue generally pounding the pavement, liaising with authorities, manning the satellite, etc.), and that's after dropping Hawkman to trim it down, but includes all the basics you'd want (and if the writer is comfortable with a nine-man team, Hawkman could easily be added back, as he's a fun source of conflict with Ollie, over their very different stances on just about everything). They've got science, they've got detectives, they've got heavy hitters, they've got a magician, they've got a few scrappy sorts who are just great at kicking butt and taking names.

Atom (and Firestorm) as the lead scientists, and Elongated Man (and Sue) as the lead detectives, should shake up some expectations. Hawkwoman as the one sourcing any awesome tech, and Green Arrow as the team piggy bank, and Black Canary as the best hand-to-hand fighter (and tactical leader) also nicely spreads things out (instead of having *all five of those roles* more or less covered by Batman).

And they *don't* have a bunch of people who also always have their own solo books (like Superman, Green Lantern or the Flash), and therefore showcase some characters that I'm not as likely to see, otherwise, which I also consider a plus.

My favorite JL team would probably include folk like Vixen or Booster Gold, but I kind of love this 'Satellite-era' group as well, and some of them, like Firestorm and Red Tornado and Zatanna, would really get to shine as the 'powerhouses' on a team that doesn't have a Superman, Green Lantern or Martian Manhunter to show up their cool powers.

Love your line-up! That picture is fantastic. How'd you make the characters? I love the style.

My dream roster would be like a mixture of the Giffen/DeMatteis League and the Meltzer JLA:

    • Martian Manhunter (team leader and re-established as a founding JLA member)
    • Zatanna
    • Fire
    • Red Tornado
    • Black Lightning (pre-FP version with the two daughters)
    • Booster Gold
    • Big Barda
    • Vixen
    • Wonder Woman
    • Major Disaster (I liked the reformed super villain angle they played up with him during Kelly's run)

No dig at you personally but it drives me nuts when Plastic Man is in Justice League in place of Elongated Man. I know Plas is the more popular character but Elongated Man was, to me, the heart of the Satellite League, the JL(A)'s most classic lineup.

Alex Ross is fond of adding Plastic Man and Capt. Marvel/Shazam and The Phantom Stranger and sometimes even Metamorpho, Black Lightning, Supergirl, and Batgirl too, but he doesn't include Plastic Man to the exclusion of Elongated Man and I appreciate that.

Among characters that haven't yet appeared in Rebirth, Ralph and Sue Dibny are at the top of my list. They're near the top of my list of all favorite DC characters.

I've also never found Plastic Man especially funny. I feel the same way about several of the comical DC characters like Ambush Bug or Lobo or Larfleeze. And because I don't find them funny, and their writers are always working so hard to make them so, I find them irritating. For some reason I don't have the same problem with Mr. Mxyzptlk or Bizarro. I love those characters. Bat-Mite sort of straddles the line for me. But Bat-Mite and Mxy are both descendants of the radical playwright Alfred Jarry's notion of 'pataphysics and that's pretty cool. Plas is a 'pataphysicist too; I just don't appreciate it as much when he employs "the science of imaginary solutions."

Great idea. I think they should do something like this with the Satellite team and maybe call it JL Unlimited. God knows Martian Manhunter and co. need the exposure.

Thank you! It's pixel art I made using Paint.NET. They're micro-heroes (there are several templates online if you're interested). They take a while to make, but it's pretty fun.

I don't know what I could call this team.

    Justice League: ?

But this team will bring the war between The Green/The Red and The Rot to the forefront, this battle will be the single overarching storyline throughout the series title whilst facing other threats.

    Main Team Members

Vixen - Mari deserves to be on a team, so I came up with this team with her in mind, saying all of that, I didn't make her the center. She is a leader or co-leader if one or both of the co-leads are absent or unavailable.

Animal Man - Full time dad and full time member, founding member and co-lead. Created this team to essentially build an army to fight against The Rot, and to protect his daughter. The strongest person on the team connected to The Red.

Beast Boy - Youngest, or one of the youngest members, here for the cause, the training, and the adventure.

Swamp Thing - One of the co-leads, and like Animal Man has been facing The Rot for a long time. His life is more so intertwined with The Rot b/c of who he is married to.

Poison Ivy - Not a hero, not a villain, here in this team of her own volition and own self preservation. Her presence on the team would be called into question because of her own history as a villain, as well as whether she has true allegiance would make a great dynamic with the team.

Alba Garcia - Still would want her to be a secret agent, giving information to the government on what this team is fighting against and this secret war that is going on. As someone who has the power of The Red and The Green she would be good support for any of the above mentioned. The fact that she's involved with the government and is not only relaying information about this war, but also on the team members puts her a bit on the outs with the team since she's not really connecting with them on a personal level.

Aquawoman - Superheroes connected to The Blue/Clear aren't as intertwined in the same world that some of the characters who are connected to The Red and The Green are, there's not really a focus on them but I want them to have stakes here, so considering Aquaman is on another team and people are vying for Mera to join a team, this would be pretty awesome and uniquely hers since Arthur would not have any history with this team.

Zatanna - The Red and The Green seem to have connections to magic, and some of the characters connected to them also seem to have a connection to magic. So bringing in someone whose powers are magic based as well as knowledgeable in the arts of magic seemed obvious; but if Zatanna is unavailable, being on the Justice League Dark and everything, then I have no problem with switching her out for her cousin Zachary.

Tempest (Garth) - Like Alba, Garth can be a great support to Aquawoman and Zatanna, b/c of his water and magic abilities. That and his history with Aquaman can possibly create interesting tensions between Aquawoman. I also just really want to see this character be a part of something I enjoy.

The Atom (Ryan Choi) - A slightly younger member; even though Ryan is a nuclear physicist (or studying to be nuclear physicist with Rebirth making him young and all), he's still a scientist first and science is used to explain many things, but can you explain magic or anything related to magic scientifically, it'd be interesting to see how a mind like Ryan's can explain some of the things the team will face, and how he handles being on a team where his powers doesn't really compliment the other members.

    Reserved/Rotating/New Members

B'wana Beast - Alive and retired, he has history with Buddy and with The Rot. Mike's storyline would be his desire to help, but his indecision to get involved/come out of retirement, and if he did get involved what use could he even be if he doesn't have abilities.
Freedom Beast - Wants to help, but feels unequpped, is on the lookout for any activities, and is a reserved member.
Constantine - Has history with Alec, and is knowledgeable in the occults which is another form of magic, is a reserved member since he leads his own team.
Blue Beetle (Jamie Reyes) - A young future member, his scarab is alien technology, technology being the key word here, as the opposite of magic is technology, and while magic is a weakness for the scarab, it can use it's sight to percieve magic, see how magical effects can be dispelled, and see through concealment which means the team won't have to fully rely on Zatanna (or Zachary). The scarab also has a 'truce with nature' which seems like an interesting dynamic to play with, it'd also be interesting to see how Jamie would handle villains who have a possible advantage over him and see if teaming up with Ryan is of any help, as well as showcase what science and technology can really do.

Recurring characters in the title (atm):

    - Buddy Baker's family
    - Arcane/Holland

    The Villains

    - The Rot/Black
    - Anton Arcane
    - Solomon Grundy - In earth 2 The Grey was similar to The Rot and essentially made Solomun Grundy their avatar, I would want a similar route with Solomon just being connected with The Rot since he is a zombie, which means he's dead and he's a bad guy and all.
    - Magic Based Villains - They would be pushed into the forefront.
    - Commom villains/threats of any kind and specialty that many Justice League teams typically faces.
    - New characters.

    ~~

See DC, when you don't use the same 5 to 10 characters, your team comes out diverse without even trying, and while the team I've come up with may share the same power sets their fellow team members have, their abilities in of itself are versatile.
