Default Bring back the John William's Superman theme!

    Dear Warner Bros.,

If you are really serious about making Justice League and your other DCEU movies more hopeful, here is a really simple way to do it. Replace the current completely forgettable Man of Steel theme with the classic John Williams theme!

    Thank-you.

    Umm... No.

Now, if you want to argue there should be a new Superman theme post JL, I actually think that's a possibility. However, as much as I like the Williams theme, unless you go full retro and say, bring back the Elfman Batman theme for Batfleck post JL or the 70s Lynda Carter theme for Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, then a big no for going retro for just Supes.

I don't really get the obsession with trying to take Superman back to an incarnation that hasn't quite worked since 1983 when we aren't asking the same of Batman or the other DCU characters. Shouldn't each generation have a Superman to call their own?
When it comes to comics, one person's "fan-service" is another persons personal cannon. So by definition it's ALL fan service. Aren't we ALL fans?
SUPERMAN is the greatest fictional character ever created.

No. That theme had it's time, and that time is over.

A piece of music won't magically change much anyway. Music supplements the content of a film. That's not to understate what a score does for a film, but, the quality has to already be there. Good music in a crappy movie is just good music in a crappy movie. The Williams theme isn't going to be the difference maker on whether Superman going forward in this movie verse is going to be good.

Its not like I don't understand the tug. Its the best main theme in the history of film. So yeah, temptation is going to be there. But resurrecting it isn't going to do anything. We've already seen what Bryan Singer-ing Superman does already, after all.

I just thank the good lord we won't be getting a generic, uninspired, endless percussion loop, Hans Zimmer score for JL!

Nope, it's Elfman's generic, uninspired pseudo-gothic Edward Scissorhands/Batman score with choir again. Still better than Zimmer though.

Which would largely be because Superman is not in most of it.

Actually it's because Zimmer said after BVS he's not scoring anymore superhero films.

John Williams Theme isn't only my favorite piece of Superman music I just love it as a piece of music. But damn that would had been tonally out of place in either Man of Steel or BvS.

    Easy... change the tone.

I haven't seen the latest Star Wars movies or the new Spider-Man, but I hear that those movies work the old themes into their respective scores.

Composers use variations on pre-existing themes all the time--John Williams must be paying homage to past composers in his scores, because his work always sounds vaguely familiar. I can't read music, but it sounds to me like the Williams' Superman intones the Fleischer Brothers animated and George Reeves TV Superman theme.

And to my untrained ear, there is some of Williams in the Hans Zimmer MAN OF STEEL theme, but that almost sounds like a funeral march. If Superman is going to come back from the dead, the music should be uplifting in the spirit of the Williams theme--which for me has strains of Aaron Copland (Apalachian Spring) mixed with Prokofiev (Romeo & Juliet).

I have to disagree. While John Williams is the best the new scores are really good. They shall use this. To make the films hopeful we can't simply change the music. One thing i loved about MoS and BvS are the scores especially that of MoS. Yes they are not memorable as Williams because they are not catchy. But i really love them.

A lot of people loved the latest JL trailer released in SDCC. An important part was its music which takes cues from the Man of Steel Main Theme. This theme is also hopeful and inspiring. The reason we feel Superman to be less hopeful is the writing but the them is inspiring and powerful. This can't be as influential as John Williams. After all who can? That man was a legend.

HOMECOMING is in yet another universe from all the other Spidey universes that came before, if I understand correctly. And I hear that they use the '60s cartoon show theme in that movie.

'Sides, the Superman theme has been used on TV shows that have nothing to do with Donner, Lester or Singer. Would it really be so bad to use a variation on the theme as a wink? Or is that too cute?

They also changed the colour saturation, if you compare the earlier trailer with the last one. The colour saturation seems like the biggest way to identify a DCEU movie. WONDER WOMAN shakes this up by varying the colour saturation depending on the location. Seems like JUSTICE LEAGUE is going to be more vibrant than BVS, but not as saturated as a typical MCGU movie.
