I had a bunch of Hama era Wolverine before that, probably the only one here that started with the wolverine solo before xmen
I didnt chase the claremont issues in bins, i read the bw essentials, and they held up real good!
Ive never seen more than snippets of the animated series.
70's, during the Calremont/Byrne era
“Now faith, hope, and love remain, and the greatest of these is love.”--1 Corinthians 13:13
“You had a dream; I have a plan”--Cyclops
“There's no point in being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes.”--The Doctor
Last year. Alas, DoX and IvX were pretty crappy as far as jumping on points go.
However, my first exposure to the franchise was with the 90s animated series. I'm quite enjoying Astonishing but not really feeling the rest of the current line up. I'm probably just gonna go for MMW Claremont's run.

Currently Following:
Action Comics, Deathstroke, Red Hood and the Outlaws, Super Sons, Superman, Superwoman, Teen Titans, Titans, Trinity, Wild Storm, Monstress, I Hate Fairyland, Black Monday Murders, Kill Or Be Killed, Redlands, Crosswind, Astonishing X-Men, Captain America, Daredevil, Defenders, Hawkeye, Tales of Suspense, American Gods, Animosity, Black Eyed Kids, Red Sonja
I started reading the X-Men regularly with the start of the Claremont/Lee era, which was 1993/1994 in Italy. I agree that back-issue hunting was sooo much fun, you would just get whatever you could find or afford and not read stories in the correct order, but the hunt itself was a lot of fun.

Late 90s through prolly 5 xmen comics that my frend owns
I think I perused through some collections in the late 90's when I was watching syndicated XTAS. But I actually started with Morrison in early 00's. Though the first X-comic I ever bought was the Evo one:
I started in the late 80's, but I started with earlier issues of Uncanny and Excalibur. My big brother had a huge comic collection that he let me read, and the X-Men were my favorites. I was probably influenced by TAS. I lost interest for about a decade but the X-Men movies revitalized my interest. The first comics that I ever owned myself was a partial set of the first Excalibur that I purchased off of Ebay.
90's, although my first comics were hand-me-downs from the 70's/80's.
