Default [Love/Hate] Identity Crisis and Batman v Superman

I'm interested to hear the board's take on these two most controversial properties. People tended to love or hate Identity Crisis by Brad Meltzer and Rags Morales and the same is true of Zach Snyder's Batman v. Superman film.

I'm curious to know who loved one and hated the other, who felt the opposite way, who loved both, and who hated both.

Anyone that knows my posts here will know I'm voting "loved Identity Crisis, hated BvS." But the point of the thread isn't to rehash old arguments, only to get a sense of how people felt about these two controversial stories.

Post if you want to, but the point isn't to debate. The point is to vote. I'm just trying to get a gauge of how people responded to these two controversial things.

Anyway, you've heard my thoughts elsewhere, but to contribute to the vote, I'll say that I hated Batman v Superman, but I hate Identity Crisis much, MUCH more.

EDIT: Ah, there is a poll.

I enjoyed both. I don't think Identity Crisis needed to be in continuity and the rape crap was over the top. But I enjoyed Green Arrow, Hawkman, Wally, Ray etc teaming up and the fight with Deathstroke is one of my all time favorite comic fights. Again, is it my favorite DC story? No, but I enjoyed it.

BVS again it wasn't perfect, it was rather long, and they tried to put to much in it but I loved it. BVS had my favorite live action adaptation of Batman, and I loved the trinity taking on Doomsday. I got goosebumps when Diana showed up as WW and her theme started blasting across the theater. It was a nice set up to Justice League.

I have moments I dislike in BvS but I absolutely loved Identity Crisis, overall I like BvS. I read Idenity Crisis over and over again when I first got it. I think it is my second favorite crisis next to Infinite Crisis.

I've been curious about such a correlation too.

    Identity Crisis was depressing.

I feel the poll doesn't really cover my situation. I think BvS was vastly overhated - I liked it, but didn't love it. I was much more engaged in it than a lot of other superhero movies in the past five years, though. I have not read IDC yet, but the impact on the DCU was really negative in my experience (through reading 52, etc). So my vote would be "Like BvS okay, but loathe the idea of IDC."

If one hasn't read the comic or seen the movie I think that person shouldn't vote. This is a poll for people that have experienced both.

I will say though that the poll would have been better served by Loved/Liked and Hated/Disliked. It would have allowed for more people voting.

That said, most people had very strong reactions to both properties so I think those that experienced both are more likely to have Love/Hate opinions rather than Like/Dislike.

Identify Crisis I neither love nor hate and BvS I haven't seen, so none of the polls choices worked for me

I'm voting hated both, Identity Crisis was pure garbage as a story and even though BvS had an enjoyable Batman the movie wasn't put together right.

None of these options really work for me. BvS was a disappointment, but I can respect a lot of its ambitions. I've seen it described as a "beautiful mess" and I kind of have to agree. It elicited too many feelings from me, both good and bad, for me to be indifferent to it. It experimented and failed in some of its experimentations, but I respect it for trying to be different. Plus it had the big screen debut of Wonder Woman, and whatever else can be said about the movie, she and her theme song were fucking awesome. Whereas in Identity Crisis we get to see...her hip. Bleh.

Identity Crisis is just bad. Primarily for the cliche rape and death of Sue Dibny. Neither thing was about her, but in getting reactions from the male heroes. Props to the story for presenting rape as a shocking and horrifying thing (as it always should be), but dropping the ball completely on everything else. I can't imagine looking at the old Silver Age pictures of Dr. Light and Sue Dibny, in stories aimed primarily at a younger audience, and being all "Y'know what? This dude needs to rape this lady." Women in general are treated badly in this story. Sue is a victiized prop, Zatanna is pressured by the adult men into wiping the minds of villains and heroes and subsequently gets ALL the blame, Diana's hip is the only part of her that makes an appearance, and Jean went CrAzY. The whole thing seemed like a desperate attempt to seem like an adult story, but ended up just seeming like an immature teenager trying to seem adult instead. All with a side of misogyny.

Whatever problems BvS has, I don't think it falls into the same traps as Identity Crisis. It's story didn't push the characters aside from Batman into an overly dark direction, plus it also isn't the main canon and we're not stuck with it on a monthly basis.

I loved BvS. It had good in it. I like many parts of it.

I have not read Identity Crisis. Yet i gave hate. I don't want Justice League to have such stories. I voted hate.

Wait you told later those who have not seen it won't vote. I am Sorry. I did not see that. Please enlarge and highlight this in the beginning. Or there would be votes like mine. Highlight it in a large font that those who have not seen or read shall not vote. Discount my accidental vote. Thank you.

I despised both for character assassination and a tone that really doesn't fit their genre and their characters in the slightest. The main difference is that I thought BvS was hated by enough people that I don't think the DCEU will really run with the same tone and characterization (though Wonder Woman may just have been a wonderful exception... we'll see...) but Identity Crisis affected the DCU for years.

It should be obvious nobody should ever say they hate something they didn't read. I shouldn't have to tell people that. It's the definition of ignorance.
