Things are looking up for Ben, until they are not.
spoilers:end of spoilers
Ben and Kaine discuss the event's of issue 7, until Kaine swings away in a jealous rage over Ben getting a cosmic reward despite his crimes.
Ben looks forward to things getting back to normal, until Secret Empire happens off page and Ben is left contemplating a devastated Las Vegas while Kaine beats up some thugs giving the vet he met in issue 6 a hard time.
Meanwhile, Cassandra Mercury's brother tells Hornet that Cassandra has a caravan of food coming into the city that she is keeping from the desperate people of Las Vegas, when in truth she has turned her casino into a shelter and is using the food to feed the people there.
Ben's research into Abigail's disease turns up a promising lead in the form of a doctor named Sheldon Sanders. When he reports this to Cassandra he learns of Hornet's attack on the food caravan and intervenes. The fight goes poorly, and in the end Ben is saved by Ricochet, who is looking into Hornet's identity.
The interaction between Ben and Kaine remains one of the best things about the book. They seem to be masters of getting under each other's skins and calling each other on their crap. I like the idea of Ben and Kaine being brothers who fight all the time, but have each other's backs in the end.
I googled the name of the doctor Ben is looking for, but could not find anything, so he is likely a new character.
Finally, am I the only one who sees nothing different about Ben's hair despite Abigail's comment about him changing it? I wonder if he was supposed to have gone blonde, but the colorist messed up.
