Default How marvel used to promote it's comics!

Was not sure if this goes here or the classic comics but with all the new events and how they promote them today with internet, lets go back in time before the web and see how marvel used to make ads for their comics and lets grade how well they did. Do you think these ads would sell the book or did they need a better one? Did these ads make you want to pick up the book? If nothing else it is a neat flashback!

Lets start with these few. What do you guys think of them? Hit or miss?

The more things change, the more they stay the same... every single one of those heroes in that last ad is in either X-Men Gold, X-Men Blue, Titans or Teen Titans, except for Cyborg (who is with the Justice League, to the chagrin of a large portion of the DC fanbase).

And that can't be too long before Dick Grayson became Nightwing, considering it's late enough that the X-Men have Kitty in their ranks.

Fixed the pictures. Kind of a mess but at least you can see them now.

    Three more.

Yes, and it was quite good.

    Thanks for the info.
Will have to read this limited series one day.
As a fan of Tom de Falco from the Spider-Man and Thor stories this is a must read to me.
Plus i think Firestar is way cool.
I knew Firestar had her first apearence in the Amazing Spider-Man cartoon, but i thought that her first apearence in the comics was in New Warriors.

Outside this miniseries, I believe Firestar's first appearance in continuity was UXM#193, dated May 1985.

Yeah, that ad says she's torn between Hellfire and X-Men, but in the end, she chose a third option, which was the New Warriors. An early issue had Emma try to get her back, but she refused. She later became an Avenger and only finally joined the X-Men a few years ago.

And wow, so those Legacy ads are based on Golden Age ads, not Silver Age ones?
