Default What do you think of Tom King's Batman run?

I'm interested in what the consensus is on the board (or if there a consensus.)

So, what grade would give Tom King's Batman run so far?

I'm going with an A. I'm enjoying the hell out of it.
    Sincerely,
    Thomas Mets

Pretty technically sound in design, page layout and narattive construction. He`s also a bit balsy which I appreciate in a creator, whether I agree with him or not.

His Batman on the other hand falls flat in terms of character voices, execution and in the golden rule of "show, don`t tell".

I went with great. It reads MUCH better in trade than it does in single issues. I got the I Am Bane trade yesterday, and found I liked it considerably more than I did when I got the single issues.

It's the best the main title has been since Morrison left, and currently the best title starring Bruce. He actually feels like a character here, where he doesn't elsewhere.

Poor, poor run overall. Expected more from King.

Love this run alot. It gets better with each arc, though i'm kinda waiting till the flashback arc finishes before binge reading it all, as I'm not enjoying the single issues.

I went with A+, I love what King is doing and I think he deserves a spot alongside the best Batman writers, even though I agree it reads better when you have a completed arc instead of reading two issues per month. To read the I Am Trilogy in one sit is an amazing experience, even though I woul have liked to have the Hugo Strange plot resolved in the title and not in an average, at best, crossover. The letters in issue 10 and 12 still touch me deeply and the whole confrontation in I Am Bane is the best I have seen between Batman and Bane since Knightfall. The War of Jokes and Riddles presents a not always succesful way of narration, specially in issue 28, but has moments like the Kite Man interlude or the dinner in Wayne Manor to compensate. I think Batman is the character with most luck when it come to stories, and in every medium, movies, videogames, comics, tv. Books I don't know, I know there're novel adaptations of certain stories, but I'm not in that kind of stuff.

No rankings lower than "F: Complete Garbage."?

(It seems like it would be insulting to garbage to rank Tom King's Batman run on the same level with it.)

I expected more from Tom King, anyway it's still a unique way of writing and I like it much more than Snyder.
As said from others, it's better reading every arc as a whole.

Anything with Catwoman is a must read for me, so King automatically moves up a grade or two.

It's really good so far. I love King's love of classic references and touches.

The "I am" trilogy is a great read. Loved how King fixed Bane as a character, gave him new life.
Things I love: Batman, Superman, AEW, old films, Lovecraft

Grant Morrison: “Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multibillion-dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it's not real.”

The opening arc wasn't that great to me, but I stuck with it and now I've enjoyed it more and more.

I Am Bane is terribly confliting exactly in the issues King has in writting the title.

He will fix a character like Bane at the expense of several others that do nothing else in the story but getting punked. You might say he gets characters...linched.

    Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh
