    No.
The horse has well & truly bolted on this one.
He's established as 'Wally' and the TV show has also taken it's cues from the character so bugger it.

He's not MY Wally, but there's plenty out there who think of him when they hear Wally West.
    Thanks a whole bunch DC.
"My name is Wally West. I'm the fastest man alive!"

It's more WB than DC in this case.

This would be DC's ultimate trolling:

Fans: We want Wally! We want Wally!

DC: You want Wally? OK! We'll give you Wally! We'll give you INFINITE Wallies!

Fans: No! We just want ONE Wally!

*DC floods their books with infinite variations of Wally.*

Be careful what you wish for.

Heh. I'm imagining a Trouble with Tribbles scene where thousands of Wallies keep falling out of overhead compartments.

    Except with the comic fans.
Let White Wally apparently Wallace Rudolph West, change his name to either Wallace or Rudolph.
White Wally West has been around since 1959 in the comics, but also appeared in Justice League, Young Justice, Static Shock, Superman Animated, Teen Titans, Crisis on Two Earths, Judas Contract, in addition to six video game appearances. This extends much further than just comic fans.

Once the Flash TV show ends I would imagine that nuWally quietly disappears from comics as well or changes.

It's possible, but it isn't like reruns of the show won't be airing after the show's demise. It all depends on whether or not African-American Wally becomes well known enough outside our hobby to last. Of course, white Jimmy Olsen was altered racially on TV despite being fairly iconic in his own right. Who knows what will happen down the road?

And then there's Nick Fury. Do most people think of the classic Howler/S.H.I.E.L.D. Director of Silver/Bronze Age fame, or Samuel L. Jackson's version of more recent times?

At least there was a black Fury in the comics beforehand.

Well, even there, Marvel didn't try and say that the original Nick Fury never existed...

Well, reruns dont have the same impact or meaning as the ongoing airing.

You'd be surprised. Everything I initially learned about Superman, I learned watching reruns of George Reeves' ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN during the 1970s. Everything I initially learned about Batman, I learned watching reruns of Adam West's BATMAN during the 1970s.

Same with me. Among children of the '70s, those shows were just as important and influential as the ones airing prime time. With that said, since there are many more choices to choose from today than compared to 40 years ago, Reruns (or first-run shows, for that matter) don't have the same power as they once had.

I'm more interested in him getting a different superhero ID and a new path than just being kid flash. But changing his actual name feels like an easier move in the short-term to pull off than giving him a new superhero ID.

Not happening any time soon. He just got the role officially not too long ago, and DC clearly WANTS a Kid Flash around.

They're not going to make ANOTHER new character while most of the Flash Family is still missing, and of the four other youngsters: They're not gonna have Bart switch back, and in fact my favorite thing about NuWally hands down is that his holding of the Kid Flash mantle means that Bart will almost certainly return as Impulse, Jenni I'd be fine with being Kid Flash, but like Bart, she has her own identity that she'll probably use when she eventually returns, and Iris and Jai, while we have no idea whether they'd have speed, their original powers or no powers when they return, they DON'T have their own codenames...but they'd stick with Wally, not Barry, so that rules them out. Toss in that NuWally, like all teen heroes at this point, can't really age, and he's likely going to be Kid Flash for many years to come.
