Default The Current "The Wild Storm" Family Of Titles

With the ":Michael Cray" series starting recently, it seemed like it might be a good idea to have a spot where what is going on and what has happened could be discussed in one place.

In addition to what you mentioned, it felt like there was also an element of The Drummer's character in that this version of John is very "Systems" oriented.

It also felt like there was a bit of The Drummer in this version of Kenesha as well.

While that could be, I don't think we saw enough of John's character in the original series to really tell how much this version (if it is a version) of him differs.

As for Kenesha, I always read her character more as an Indiana Jones type, one who rather than spend all her centuries on Earth fighting or politicking spent her time exploring the depths of the mysteries that there were to find, so she just had esoteric info to pull from.

Now that I think of it, I would have loved to see her and Elijah sit down and swap stories at some point.

There is enough to pull from that I don't think that we need to explicitly pull to much from Planetary though. That worked well as a stand alone even as loosely connected to the original WildStorm universe as it was, and would hate to see that diluted to much. Even though you could argue the main theme of that series the "uncover the secret history of the world" is largely what we have seen so far for the driving through-line in the new series.

On Wild Storm: Michael Cray #1...

It was certainly interesting. Without spoiling too much, the "Wild Storm" Earth's version of Oliver Queen is particularly interesting.

Since The Wild Storm #8 was only released today, I'll outline the big developments in "Spoiler" copy...

    spoilers:
    - Marlowe lays out how they came to Earth for Angela. He seemingly leaves some of the details out.

    - Cole is a former IO Field Specialist who seemingly faked his own death during a mission.

    - IO decide that Skywatch might be working with Marlowe's CAT. They start to prepare for that possibility.

    - Shen Li-Min(Swift in the classic The Authority line up) is this continuities' Doctor.

    - Shen discusses what Jenny is with her predecessors.

    Just to remark

    spoilers:
In the last issues of the official Wildstorm Universe, Shen Li-Min aka Swift really became the Doctor.
    end of spoilers
However there are some tip to wonder
    spoilers:

-Is John Colt as alien as Marlowe or is more robotic? The change he said he needs would not only mean new clothes but a whole new body and face
-The Daemonites were behind the origin of Jenny Sparks? Will be they also the ones behind Jack Hawksmoor?
-Is Mitch the Aquaman of the Wild Storm?
    end of spoilers

    On Marlowe...(Spoilers)

    spoilers:
Unless I am reading the latest issue of The Wild Storm incorrectly, Marlowe points to that Marlowe/Kenesha/John are each different evolutionary steps of a single race. They seem to have left some wiggle room, but that was how it read to me.

I'm really lost in what Voodoo's place in this series is. She shows up in this strange, what looks like, fake ads. Does anyone know what's going on? I picked up this series cause I saw her in it lol.

That a thing of the narrative of Ellis. I have seen before in Supreme: Blue rose, where the add were giving you info about the pop culture of this world but also were giving you information about was were happening, as clues about the story.
Here Voodoo is something like a internet star who makes music videos on symbolic locations, but in someway is giving to the people info about the secrets hidden in their world, if you now were to look. Considering if she is still half daemon(ite), that means a lot.

Based on what some of the other characters are saying, I would also guess that she is currently IO.

I have just binge-read the first 8 issues of The Wild Storm (+ Michael Cray #1) and wanted to share how much I enjoyed this latest take on Jim Lee's (and friends) characters. As a fan of the original Wildstorm universe, this feels both very close to the themes that always permeated the books (aliens, shady organizations, conspiracy theories) but also unmistakably Warren Ellis-y.

I love how a lot of old WS characters have been given new yet familiar roles, and how everything feels modern without betraying the spirit of what's come before. It's definitely a slow-burn, as it's often the case with Warren Ellis, but this series in particular is made up of an intricate web of groups, characters and past histories which are not immediately spelled out in the first couple of issues, so a binge-reading is infinitely more satisfactory. Still, even on a single issue basis I feel there's something to be invested in.

I can easily see this adapted as a tv show. Hell, the book very much reads like a pitch for a tv show. Jim Lee's properties have never had much luck on the silver/big screen but this definitely feels like they're making their play for it.

I also wonder what/who exactly the announced Wildcats book is going to be about and most importantly who the creative team is going to be. Very much looking forward to thatannouncement.

Quick "Not Really Spoilers" notes from The Wild Storm #9...

    - Angie gets access to Marlowe's "Hidden Stash" storage facility. Unsurprisingly, it is in "Parts Unknown".
    - Cole was part of training program that was off of IO's books/"For Director's Eyes Only" that was run by the director before Miles Craven. That director was John Lynch. He is seemingly still alive.

I bet in march 2018 we will have more info on John Lynch. At least would be ideal and poetic, if you can guess why.

On a side note I just discovered how Ellis is in several ways reworking concepts from newuniversal into Wild Storm.

In addition to The Wild Storm, The Wild Storm: Michael Cray is off to a really interesting start. Not sure if IO has some sort of a specific plan that is unfolding in the background, but I'm on board for a while.
