Default Real World consequences: Monsters are real.

What if humans weren’t the dominant creature on the planet? What if the horrors that haunt our nightmares were real? Monsters, both big and small have always existed in our minds, manifestations of what we don’t understand? But what if they weren’t mere imagination?

Here is the scenario. Humankind came of age in a world of terror. Giant primordial beasts stalked the wilderness (dragons ogres and even Kaiju), and vampires, werewolves and other more human like monsters lived among us. Even death was no escape from terror, for ghosts and other undead horrors also exist in the world. How would society have evolved differently in such a reality?

We've been living in it for at least a year now.

Pretty sure we'd still be back in the Iron Age, civ-wise, unable to progress beyond that.

Pretty much the entirety of human progress has occurred while surrounded by creatures that are faster, stronger, and overall deadlier than us. I don't see how this is any different.

Nowhere near monstrously so. Monsters defy physical laws of nature. If they had actually been around since the dawn of mankind like the legends of them, there would literally be no hope for us. The only reason there has been hope is because they've been pure fantasy.

I assume humans can use the common popular tools to combat these monsters? So silver is highly effective against all manner of creature?

I'm guessing we'd just have Witcher style people for awhile, and eventually monsters would be hunted to extinction.

    Reign of Fire.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

We would probably treat monsters the same way we treat dangerous animals (rattlesnakes, tigers, etc.)

Some might go extinct, if they're dangerous enough (IE- ogres.)

We might try to use their special abilities (IE- vampires have centuries have firsthand experience/ trolls could be useful in war.) There might be conspiracies in which the existence of some creatures is kept quiet for the sake of those in charge.
    Sincerely,
    Thomas Mets

Maybe, maybe not. You know humans are pretty ingenious when it comes to finding ways to kill things. The biggest engine for human ingenuity is the need to kill something (see war or the threat of war) Creatures like vampires, and werewolves have pretty big weaknesses that can be exploited. Being not as effective in the day for example. Most big monsters like dragons are pretty much animals with one or two unique traits, dangerous but nothing humans couldn’t defeat or tame with enough effort. Truely gigantic monsters like Kaiju would be a problem though, but I don’t think they would be any worse than a natural disaster. In fact that would be a good parrellel for them. To me the real interesting monster would be zombies, and ghosts. You really couldn’t get rid of them perminantly because they are essentually us but dead. In this world their would be ghost and zombies as long as their are people around to become zombies and ghosts.

Most monsters would be extinct, and others, like vampires, would be integrated into society.

Also, Loch Ness is a real thing you can go visit in Scotland. The monster that is supposedly in Loch Ness not so much. See also Frankenstein getting confused with his monster all the time.

Nukes are a relatively recent development though. Kaiju would probably be the last of the monsters that would be brought under control. That is assuming they wouldn’t have wiped us out before our tech could advance to that level.

How much do Kaiju need to eat?

They may have just gone extinct all on their own.
