If you are revamping her and the whole team from the ground up, then yes, everyone deserves an IQ boost.

But that's Reboot Sue. Regular Sue doesn't need that. Sue being a Shield agent on the side works. Her powers are perfect for espionage. Plus you get to her more crafty side.

it just bothered me that Alyssa Moy basically said that Sue was stupid and that Reed knows it.

It's not a random intelligence boost, it's her training to be a medic and having something for herself but it would also give her a more active role on the team outside of her powers . While the SHIELD thing was interesting, it has not been followed up or gone into detail why she would ever join them. All of them wouldn't get an intelligence boost, Johnny already talented at engineering as you can see in the previous page. Ben has always been an experienced astronaut, fighter, pilot, and ex war vet.

616 Sue definitely needs to be more than just the wife and mother of the team. I see the Fantastic Four as a team that would still operate even if they didn't have powers, and Sue is the only one on the team who would have no reason to be there if that were the case.

During Fraction's brief Fantastic Four run, Susan suddenly was shown to have a doctorate in .....something. He wasn't very clear about that. I felt that was clumsy and I would rather it be shown that Sue was in process of completing a degree. It would have made a ongoing subplot for her.

I would have liked Alyssa Moy if they hadn't made her a bit catty about that. She ended up being a bodyless brain that got squished. The last we saw of them their Nu Earth was in a decaying universe or something like that. Hickman got rid of them fairly early in his run

There was an issue of Marvel Adventures where Sue was an avenger and acted as the medic of the team. So making those skills and the position canon would be cool and relatively easier to do now that she was a SHIELD agent. She learn how to be a medic as part of her SHIELD training and she excelled at it.

I'm fond of her being a SHIELD agent than a doctor because its more sexier but we have enough agents. I'm not against the bussiness-woman angle but Jan could do that as well.

Sue was pretty young when the FF first started so its always a possibility she could have went to med school offscreen. But it depends on how good the writer is at handling that but hey if House and Grey's anatomy can go on for years than i think it could work.

    Seems pretty arbitrary.
Ben and Johnny aren't exactly career-oriented either.
There's nothing wrong with being "just" a wife and mother, which Sue isn't anyway considering she's also a strong-willed superhero and the most powerful member of the team.
It's not as if she stays in the kitchen keeping her thoughts to herself while letting the men solve all the problems.

There's nothing wrong with the characters beyond being treated like absolute rubbish recently.

The only thing Sue needs is Fantastic Four relaunch with a good creative team.

    Agreed.

Once Marvel finally brings her back and has decent writing on whatever title she's a part of, then they can explore different ways to grow her character.

A big part of why the Ultimate FF was my favourite FF is that Reed and Sue were, initially anyway when the UU was still good, intellectual equals, just specialising in different fields.

Yeah, but UFF sure did end up very weird. It was almost like Sue was going to assault Reed or something. I guess she and Ultimate Ben didn't make it through the final incursion.

The more I think about it, the more I love this idea. It would fit with her personality, trying to learn the culture and language of other cultures and alien species to help foster relations with humans.
Yes, you got it. That is exactly the Sue that I had in mind. And because Sue would inevitably become the "friendly face" and culturally empathic voice between Earth and the various sentient cultures out there, she would in effect expand her role as the "glue" for the entire multiverse. I can hear distressed extraterrestrials saying, "You know, I don't know Reed Richards, or Captain America, or Carol Danvers, or King T'Challa, or whomever. But I know of Susan Richards. Her conscientious and immersive approach to problem solving are legend throughout the universe. Can you please help me find her? We need her help."

Of course, this dream scenario goes on to have Sue form her own FF in the absence of Reed. But that's a topic for another thread.

Ok, here is a crazy idea if there is no chance of rebooting back to Day 1:

    What if Sue divorces Reed?

I only read Future Foundation; during that era. if it were 616 Sue, it might have been something honorary; from her role as an underwater ambassador. :shrugs:

the timing would be odd. and I'm not sure how it would improve the stories of either character. plus, I'm already dreading the eventual remarrying.

Why would the timing be odd? Not current with 616 FF.

My thinking is if family is the main aspect holding Sue back from true stardom, then why not untangle her from it? Divorce Reed (whom I hear is / was not exactly a good husband anyway), separate from the FF completely, have her go find herself, meet new people, new or repurposed supporting cast, new rogues, new locales.

Basically the exact same path I advocate for Storm to become a true alpha away from the X-Men.

they aren't mutually exclusive; being accomplished and being a secret agent. Mockingbird has a PhD in biology.
