Why is the Infinity Gauntlet Treated like a Household Item?

Because these are serialized comics and can not be conceived with the old readers as a priority. Any new Gauntlet story had probably as much or more readers exposed to the Gauntlet for the first time that people that read about it 20 or 30 years before. In serial narratives that span decades every Gauntlet, Galactus or Phoenix story is the first Gauntlet, Galactus or Phoenix story for many readers, new younger readers that will allow the narrative to keep going the next 20 or 30 years.
