I see a Squadron Supreme, Hyperion, and a Nighthawk comic. 5 points of difference and they're golden.

If Nick Dragotta is starting a new series, is East of West ending?

I'm sure Dragotta is just doing this on the side, like his Howtoons books.

This does look like a pretty lame move at the outset, though. Sure, they technically created America Chavez at Marvel, but a good bit of what makes it so seemingly lucrative to do a derivative character at this point is from work others have done with her at Marvel since. I don't see how they could not be hoping a bunch of people will see this and think "oh, it's like that character I like from Gillen and McKelvie's Young Avengers!"

No. Because we have seen others who like certain folks get free passes.

Heck how many times have we seen Storm in a non Marvel book but she's never referred to by name? In fact there is a series (Zombie Tramp) featuring her as a villain now. You can tell it's her but drawn as a more curvy female with that mohawk.

Good for them. That's one way to sort of reclaim your created character. I'll support this.

Heck Peter David did the same thing with Supergirl with Fallen Angel series.

One would hope he can do more work than draw 8 East of West comic books in a year. I'm sure this is just him supplementing his work on that series.

Haha, how did this get past the copyright lawyers over at Image? Job not well done, lawyer folk

Also, can a Miss America series be far behind? I think not! Excitement follows as the plot thickens, lol

Kinda weird that America Vasquez looks way more like McKelvie's America Chavez redesign than Dragotta's original design.

Suppose I can't pass up that creative team. Though, ironically, Sex being so uneventful and uninspiring (maybe that's not ironic...) has given me less faith in Casey.
Comics were definitely happier, breezier and more confident in their own strengths before Hollywood and the Internet turned the business of writing superhero stories into the production of low budget storyboards or, worse, into conformist, fruitless attempts to impress or entertain a small group of people who appear to hate comics and their creators. -- Grant Morrison, 2008

But he did it with DC's consent/blessing/cooperation, because the Fallen Angels book was originally published as a creator-owned by DC before moving to IDW(?).

    I miss that book.

I see a hint of red circles the shield in there too...

Can the creators create a derivative of their own thing? Perhaps.
But Ms America has moved along way from her original idea... Which was more subversive. In the context of the anti Latino discourses, from Trump back to Arizona, she reminds that the word America is not Anglo.
I'd have to re read that series, but I suspect Casey had something more Street level in mind for her, a little more confronting, whereas the shift to cosmic extra dimensional hero actually takes a bit of heat out of that. She became someone from far away, not someone who lives in this world.
So regardless of what this character looks like, if she's less distant and more grounded in history and ethnicity then she becomes a different character.

Also, the name of this book gives room for other characters as well, anthology style.

If it's anything like Catalyst or Captain Victory, with dragotta art, I'm in. Just hope it doesn't delay EofW any more.

Yeah, that's the part that seems a bit dodgy. I haven't actually read anything with the character in it, but from what I've heard from others, I get the impression that a lot of what the character is now is more a result of McKelvie/Gillen's work than Casey/Dragotta's. Hopefully, the writing will take its cues more from whatever Casey had originally planned as opposed to trying to cash in on what Gillen did.
