    Default What notable female workers or comic book characters were there at Timely?

    Even during the Golden Age of Comics, many comic books were dominated by male workers (freelance and staff) and comic book characters. What notable female workers (freelance and staff) or comic book characters at Timely during that era? I will take even one-time female workers and one-shot characters because sometimes even those ladies achieve somewhat of a cult status.

    Just off the top of my head, some of the female characters who had their own feature were:
    * Miss America
    * Silver Scorpion
    * Black Widow (Claire Voyant)
    * Blonde Phantom

    After WWII, Captain America and Human Torch got female partners (Golden Girl and Sun Girl) to replace their kid-sidekicks, and Sub-Mariner's cousin Namora showed up.

    At that time, over in the other Universe, there was Wonder Woman in 1941 and in 1942 Mary Marvel.

    Not sure what "universe" these ladies were from, but also early 1940's Phantom Lady ( most don't know this fact!), Sheena the Jungle Girl and the Black Fury.

    Patsy Walker is about as notable as it gets. She outsold and outlasted most of the other characters in the Timely era, even outshining poor Miss America in her own mag!

    Wonder Woman was from DC; Mary Marvel was with Fawcett Comics.

    The original Phantom Lady was a feature in Police Comics published by Quality Comics from 1941-1943.
    Then, from 1947-1949, Fox Feature started publishing stories with the Sandra Knight Phantom Lady, changing the coloring of her outfit from yellow with a green cape to blue with a red cape.

    Sheena was from Fiction House; "Black Fury" was later better known as "Miss Fury", who began as a comic strip (those adventures were then collected into comic books published by Timely). Miss Fury was created by a female, Tarpé Mills.
    Another female comic book character from back then was Miss Victory; her 1940s stories were published by Temerson and by Holyoke.

    In addition to Louise Alston, Ruth Atkinson, and Violet Barclay, there's this semi-low quality picture from the 1950s I came across picturing who I think is another female staff member (Neva Del Vecchio; was also listed as Neva Patterson):
