Default Did the comic books medium create anything truly unique in the Western genre?

One that does not involve magical or supernatural powers aside from the usual action movie super shooting skills.

Blueberry by Jean-Michel Charlier and Jean 'Moebius' Giraud

It's a famous Belgian series, but it's all been translated to English. The main draw is Moebius' artwork.

    Jeremiah by Hermann Huppen

The White Boy by Garrett Price

    Cowboys versus Aliens?
I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:

Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.

Depends on just how unique "Truly Unique" has to be.

I haven't gotten around to reading it yet, but nu52 Jonah Hex by Jimmy Palmiotti got good reviews.

Its called All Star Western during New52 before that (and where the story begins) its called Jonah Hex by Jimmy Palmiotti. Thanks, ed for reminding me how much I enjoyed it.

If it just at some point...

Secret Six by Siomne had one western themed issue, did not make it a Western comic.
