I’d give him the Marvel Family.
Good point.
Honestly, when I asked Bendis which DC character he'd like to write, his answer stunned me. I was expecting something like one of the Trinity or JLA or Titans or, well, anything but Zatanna.
I guess we're going to find out in the near future if he got his wish or if he or DC changed their minds and lured him with a different character.
Current Pull: Lazarus, The Realm, Seven to Eternity, Aquaman, Flash, Justice League Dark, Justice League Odyssey, Sideways, Black Panther, Captain America, Daredevil, Death of the Inhumans.
Future Pull: Killmonger.
He once said at 2004 Wonder-Con that the DC character he would most like to write was Zatanna.
Food for thought. And yes, after 13 years, he may have changed his mind.
But still, I thought people would want to know that.
They are likely to give him whatever he asks for.
Which is probably a new Batman book, a team book of some kind, and some creator-owned books at Vertigo.
The story of a low-powered woman being subjected to horrific torments at the hands of a misogynistic psychopath?
I don't see how that translates to "He could totally do well with one of the most powerful female heroes and the greatest feminist icon in all of comics?"
And yes, as Frontier says, he also destroyed the character of Wanda Maximoff, to the point where only a retcon could salvage her.

Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are,
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Maybe he should tackle the Green Arrow Earth one novel if they plan on using him there?
Sideways from Dark matter would be a fun callback and tons of space to operate in. Or just have him create someone for that imprint?
I don't know much about Bendis but I can understand why people would feel more comfortable about him working on street-tier characters as opposed to high-tier characters.
What I don't understand is why people don't want him on a team book.

That's why I never forgot it when he said that.
I don't know which DC character I expected him to say when I asked him. But it definitely was not Zatanna.
It's been 13 years so it's not unheard of for creators to change their minds. But I think most of us who are diehard fans stick with the characters they love. We'll see if Bendis is writing her or not soon enough.
