Outside of comics, Dick Grayson wins hands down. It's not even close. Within our hobby, however, I agree it's much closer.

Meh. Only change here is now it will be DC books I avoid because they say Bendis on the cover instead of Marvel books.

Also, there is no way Bendis writes a character like Blue Beetle without killing off Jaime and replacing him with a new pet character. The Teen Titans? Expect an entirely new roster of jobbers who will make whatever one or two characters Bendis is actually into look good at every opportunity, story be damned. We'll know within his first dozen issues for the company who his pet characters are, and we'll know exactly what to expect moving forward.

I just don't see this being a huge get for DC by itself. The massive artist list that he has good relationships with, on the other hand... Yeah, that's worth suffering Bendis for.

If that ever happened, I would blame his superiors far more than Bendis himself for allowing it. How can you have DC's first and most famous sidekick lose that significant bit of history overnight?

I hope you don't really mean that. 5 years is not possible if we are working within the framework of New 52. But 5 days is just too short. Robin is not just a sidekick. He is the son of Batman before Morrison made that literal. So, his son was with him for like 5 days and went on to bigger things. That's a very unsatisfying narrative. That's one of the best things of Batman. He lost his family to crime and made one while fighting it. The Lego Batman Movie is technically the best film of Batman because it gets what other films did not. Dick Grayson is son of Batman just as Damian is. His career as Robin is a really important part of his character. By reducing that one changes the character in a very fundamental level.

Dick Grayson is the proof that Batman works. He is friendly and more easy going. A well adjusted guy in contrast to his mentor Batman even though he faced a tragedy just as Bruce himself. Because he was taken under the wing by Batman at a crucial time he did not grow up to be the grumpy one that Bruce grew up to be. His career as Robin is a foundation from which he grows up to be Nightwing.

Of course, one may choose to reduce the period as Robin to 5 days but by doing this we might as well call him a whole new character who happens to share some things with Nightwing.
